As much as I love just charging into a closed house and finding out what is in there by surprise, this is the more measured, surviving method where you get to keep your character alive and the inventory filled. Do you have any tips of your own?
Make sure you always open a door while in attack position and uncrouched. As soon as a zombie comes out either strike or back away and strike. NEVER try and turn around and run as soon as a zombie pops out of the door, that's how I got scratched and infected: th-cam.com/video/vgh47V6Walw/w-d-xo.html Make sure you either shove and/or flash doors before opening. Door flashing is when you quickly open and close a door. If you shove a door you can get any zombies behind it to reveal themselves by them banging on it. If the door is banging lightly then there's only one zombie which can't break a preexisting door on its own unless the player is really close to it. So if there's only one zombie you can either just leave it there to take care of later or take care of it now for peace of mind. If the door is banging really frequently that means there's more than one zombie which means you should wait for them to break the door then fight them. If you flash a door you can quickly see how many zombies in the room. Back sure you're facing the door you want to open and not a really close adjacent door. I accidentally opened an adjacent door and nearly got struck by a zombie: th-cam.com/video/9j1N0ZkOqFY/w-d-xo.html To be honest I don't recommend door flashing (very risky) but a lot of other people do so I put it in anyway. You can also shout or whisper to get zombies behind doors to reveal themselves. This is risky however because you can get zombies behind multiple doors to bang on them all at once making it hard to tell a door with only one zombie from one with multiple ones. Anyways that's what I got for now.
