Woke stuff may be absolutely obnoxious and limited, but in the US when the far right are flat earth/anti vax/religious cultist/coup attempting/military fetishist/billionaire simps ignorant of the many many flaws in the criminal justice system & think healthcare is for commies..it's honestly a small nitpick by comparison haha. But this whole case is such a massive dumpster fire, throwing him under the bus to appease the US is insane, they could easily put their foot down and support his claims and bust a few complicit officers, what would the US even do?

You're entirely right that this sort of "journalism" is so focused on looking like they're in the right that they lose sight of what really matters. Saw similar games being played with the character assassination and legal harassment of Chelsea Manning across multiple US administrations. States do not like whistleblowers.

      @RedTomato1917 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +39

Exactly, America and its allies, in this case Australia need to justify a massive military build up against their great power rival China. The last thing they want is to undermine their already dwindling recruitment, unit morale and public support for said military expansion with a proper accounting of their crimes in these places, they especially don't want to implicate the commanders and politicians responsible for the war itself. This would present a serious obstacle to their aforementioned geopolitical goals, as would the Assange and Manning Case.

Exactly. They could play the same card with 'jordies has it out for the abc', but it doesn't matter a bit while that point stands. The having it out is a product of the line to sell, regardless of the form it takes - woke or anti-woke. Protecting their own is part of this. It's also why News Corp represents the other side of the coin to abc's poor coverage of mcbride & warcimes - protecting command and those they favour (with an all too familiar jingoism).

Journalists are the worst, even the so-called "good journalists" (😂 as if). If it weren't for your TH-cam channel we would not know what they hide.
When my dad David Shaw died cave diving in South Africa in 2005 I went to his funeral there and was mobbed by journalists. Then The Australian published a photo of his dead body on their front page. Then young me (21yo) was roped into being interviewed by Australian Story (the interviewer tried to ask about negative family times!!!). Then 60 Minutes showed an American documentary on my dad without even telling my family. There's no end to their chase of a quick buck at other's expense.

Chelsea Manning was imprisoned and subjected to a pretty brutal regime of psychological torture prior to her trial described as "cruel, inhuman and degrading" by the UN special rapporteur on torture. She served 7 of the 35 years she was sentenced to before Barak Obama commuted the sentence because it was considered disproportionate to the sentences served on other whistleblowers. She was subsequently jailed between feb 2019 and march 2020 for refusing to testify against Assange. Several attempts to end her own life were unsuccessful during that period. The UK district judge refusing the Assange extradition used Manning's experience of incarceration in the US in support of the refusal to extradite stating that the harsh conditions were likely to severely deteriorate Assange's mental condition.

Well, I'm not feeling great about being American right now, but I do want to correct one thing: Chelsea Manning is free because she was tried and convicted and served her sentence. Julian Assange is currently in a British prison pending the results of an extradition deal to the US. He's been in prison for _5 years(!)_ after hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for _9 years(!!)_ and has yet to be tried. Assange has been fighting extradition to avoid what would almost certainly be a political prosecution in the US in which it seems likely that he'd be convicted and sentenced to a long prison term _(the statutes he's accused of violating have some specific rules; a whistleblower or public interest defense is specifically disallowed, for example)._

I'm not exactly on board with Jordan's view that many of the ABC's faults come down to their publication of media concerned with gender or progressive ideology, though I 100% agree with his point about the ABC being incompetent when reporting on this story. It's taken five years for them to put out a half-arsed "investigative" journalism piece that they have been involved in since the start; misrepresenting much of the case in an effort to be viewed as "neutral" and not take risks.

Unfortunately when pitching a news story one of things that's of biggest importance is timeliness, why tell this story now? If you miss a story once or twice it can be completely missing from your coverage.
With the ABC I honestly think alot of it comes down to not wanting to upset anyone politically, cause if they do budget cuts. I don't know if the perfect journalist exists, one not motivated by money or fame, yet consistent with quality work that appeals to a wide audience without being sensational.

It is specifically being used as a distraction from more serious issues, often ones that affect the minorities they claim to rep with this stuff, or it is used to smear someone who is a threat.
What is more important about this man, is it the war crimes he exposed, or his milquetoast misogyny? The war crimes thing, of course. this video is so deeply weird. the information being presented here is fascinating and important- i hadn't heard too much about david mcbride in the media, as jordie's so effectively pointed out, as it seems there's real malicious incompetence at work. i would've loved to hear more about the unobfuscated story from a source invested in his work, along with clear ways we could support this guy for daring to speak out despite the obvious danger, had this video not dedicated basically a third of its runtime to low effort 'le wokeisme' jokes and the baffling implication that coverage of marginalised issues is the reason these important stories are being covered dishonestly and not just like... because pink and rainbow washing are easy positions to take to appear like you're being countercultural while not committing hard enough to either to actually ruffle feathers. if it wasn't stories on nb people's lives, it would be some other drivel about financial advice from a millionaire's son or another investigation into the meat industry as though its many abuses aren't already widely known and denounced. i mean, the many detours into making fun of the dreaded blue hairs is basically the other side of the coin to the abc publishing another article about rates of depression in teenagers instead of actual investigative journalism.
its pretty obvious that stories like mcbride dont get told is because they contain inconvenient truths for people in positions of power, and the australian media is controlled by monopolies who have vested interests in not revealing their own hand. if i owned over half of all the newspapers in the country, i sure as fuck wouldn't let my journos release stories on the war crimes my buddies in the adf are doing?? unless fucking rupert murdoch comes out as a trans woman tomorrow, i will remain unconvinced that its the 'woke left' controlling the nation's media output, and instead believe that it's probably due to pressure from the billionaires that pay their bills and the politicians who can weaponise their positions to squash dissent.

It certainly seems like Four Corners is missing the forest for the trees - the focus should be on US interventionism, uneven application of ROEs to determine and prosecute war crimes at the cost of someone's right to live free. But what they are focusing on about the ROEs also...seems important, too. The ROE change was being used as a smokescreen, yes, but US interventionism would have continued to exert pressure with or without them. And the rules that changed in the way they changed weren't the problem, but rather the (deliberate) lack of checks to stop psychopaths like Schultz and co from falsifying records, the (deliberate) lack of interest of within the Australian government to hold their own defense officials accountable. Fixating on the ROE as the root of the problem here is like getting smokescreened by the smokescreen.
But a big part of Jordies' video focused on the "wokeification" of Four Corners, with a bizarre and continued usage of queer people (especially nonbinary people) as a comedic prop for hyucks. Like look, I don't want this shit to take the oxygen out of the room from McBride's heinous treatment at all. But this is like four videos in a row of the same skew, using the same groups as props, in the same "one joke" sort of way. It kinda feels like it's being used to either pad run length or give a pat on the back to the Murdoch Press lovers out there, and either way it feels kinda shit. Reminds me of when people were on him for the indigenous jokes, until *someone* got through to him to use more than the one joke about indigenous tribes in Australia.
Fuck the ABC for their utter lack of a spine and the deliberate, wanton destruction of a man's life. Genuinely fucking disgraceful sort of behavior that should be sparking riots in the fuckin' streets. Trotting out the "but he might have been misogynist, therefore we believe consent to revoke him of his rights is morally justified" is such fuckin' transparent levels of manufactured consent. I'm glad that the channel continues to shine a light on this. I hope it spurs enough collective action not just within Australia, pressuring their elected officials to fuckin break with the US, but among US citizens. *Their* government is also responsible for causing a lot of this shit around the world, and it'd go a long fucking way if people organized to make them stop. It's probably one underacknowledged good of Jordies' vids getting pushed to Americans more. Look at what the fuck's going on, what's been done and what's being done off the back of American interest. Get involved so this shit doesn't keep happening, and stop thinking it's job done when the votes are cast.

All the "Fox news is right" and anti me too parts of the video don't hit as interesting or funny to me, but I agree it's insane that they are putting the responsibility for justifying pulling the trigger on the soldiers. There is good content here, commanders covering their ass and bad journalist, but a lot of this video feels like you are trying to push an us vs them political narrative. It's always easier to tell people who to distrust, than to equip people with a nuanced take. Not that there isn't some nuance here, but something feels missing.

This is somewhat of a non-sequitor but I'm an American, and my cousin was a guard at Guantonomo Bay for a while during the Iraq war. He claims there was this one Canadian inmate there who spoke perfect English, and told all the guards that he didn't do anything, and that he wasn't associated with terrorists. Every guard ignored him (I'm assuming because those were their orders, but my cousin didn't elaborate). Flash forward a decade and the inmate was freed because he was unlawfully detained. There's a plethora of examples like this of NATO countries like Canada and Australia committing war crimes on America's behalf. It's basically expected by the American military.

It's capitalism, not "wokeness" and barriers to career advancement are not "imagined" by marginalised people although I understand why it would seem like that to someone who can't experience these issues directly. McBride can be sexist and also exposing important truths unrelated to that, I agree it's disingenuous to bring that up in the reporting but it's not the sole reason the Australian media are smearing him. Journalists' personal prejudices are important to an extent but completely overridden by their employers, which are owned by capitalist ghouls with ties to the US government, mostly Murdoch. It's really outrageous to say that Chelsea Manning is only free because she's trans. Please think it through! This video has to be getting shadowbanned or restricted or something. 579 views in an hour for jordies is NOT right.

Saying the ABC is promoting non-binary gender 'ideology' is pretty upsetting to hear from you. You can make jokes about trans people without adding to hateful rhetoric directed towards us. Your me too comments sadden me as well. I don't think I can stay with this channel with the misinformed culture war points you bring up that mirror those of the right. Keep up the good journalism, but really disappointed how much you seem to be leaning into being 'anti-woke'.
