Just too bad that all of Pre-Reformation Christianity acknowledges the Sinless Perpetual Virgin taken body and soul into Heaven. Do you really think nobody read and understood the bible until the 16th century? Now we got people with the average reading level of the 7th grade thinking they understand scripture better than the first 15 centuries of Theologians.

Talking with you guys in California when you rolled through with Convictions really helped me understand the lyrics to this song even more. Can't wait to see what else you all have in store.
Been waiting for somebody to write this song for a long time. The message is free and you should make millions off of a free message. Also, you shouldn’t have young people make you a ton of money and call it servant hood. Thanks for writing this one.
A lot to acknowledge in the comments sections. First off, this isn’t an anti-Catholic song, it’s an anti abuse within the Catholic Church song. That could be coming from a personal place from the artists, maybe a family or friend suffered abuse within the church. As Catholics we need to acknowledge our faults as a church and offer support to any victims of abuse be it within our church or not, engaging in arguments about it on TH-cam isn’t very charitable. Secondly, for the Protestants talking about abuse within the Catholic Church. Don’t forget that it happens just as often within Protestantism as it does in Catholicism. I grew up baptist and the church I went to shunned people for having tattoos, support an abusive father in court causing the mother and children to lose everything, and one of the deacons installed cameras in the men’s bathroom and was caught with multiple terabytes of child pornography. It’s just that Protestants aren’t unified and if someone within Protestantism commits an abuse it’s normally the individual that’s blamed. Whereas with Catholics being unified and a massive worldwide church, if someone within Catholicism commits an abuse the church is blamed. Police your own before pointing the finger. Lastly for the Protestants, if you want to start an argument about Catholic theology on TH-cam, actually learn what Catholics believe before spouting off something pastor Jim Bob told you. Maybe read the catechism and the church fathers or even read the history of your own denominations. Catholics don’t believe in salvation through works and they don’t worship Mary or Idols. Catholics follow Christs teachings and believe that our salvation is by grace through faith.
So as much as I have frustrations with the Catholic Church, (leading me to be an atheist many years, I was a catholic for 6 years and raised in the Catholic Church so I can argue on behalf of Protestants) but I agree with you here @ben. This isn’t an anti catholic song. This is an anti abuse in the Christian church as a whole. This is a stain across the body of Christ as a whole
There's statistically more abuse in the protestant denominations than in catholic church. I did not like the way they used the Mother of Christ to spread the message. This is my own opinion.
You misunderstand this passage. However if we are going to use it as you are trying to us it, stop asking people to pray for you, stop asking for group prayers and for prayers for your loved ones. For asking them to pray for you you are asking for more than one mediator between you and God.
@@meatshield72so do you think people who have passed can pray for you? You don't seem to remember enough of the scriptures to check your math, so to speak, so I'll remind you it's appointed once for a man to die and then after that the judgement.
I feel my lost heart withering.. Why can't I surrender in the suffering these days! its like I am addicted to the suffering, or I am so lost mentally as the devil caused mass confusion within my life.
Would love a lyric breakdown from the artist. So many ways to interpret some of the lyrics. I can see why people are easily divided on this song, I’m also on the fence and not sure about the song. I love the breakdown but maybe I’m misunderstanding the lyrics
The vocalist said at the concert that a family member of his was abused coming up in the church system and holding onto their faith through said abuse.
It sounds silly, but I adore when featured vocals are placed in more than just the bridge/post-second chorus 😂really makes it feel more integrated into the song and here's a great example of how it blends beautifully. Great feature, great track, solid pacing and I LOVE the high-pitched string bend halfway through the song. Hyped for more lads 💥
Love you guys man!! Jesus said he came to bring a sword. The truth at times can be painful for those not ready to receive it. But this song was necessary! 💯🤘🏾❤️
Before you comment on this and start throwing around insults and heretic accusations, listen to the meaning and lyrics of the song. This isn’t a song taking shots at The Virgin Mother nor is it taking shots at the Catholic Church. It is a personal song, made by the artist that highlights a very serious topic that isn’t addressed enough by the Christian community as a whole. There are so so many stories of religious figures of authority abusing their power and many times getting away with it. COAT thanks for this song. I, as a possible Catholic (idk yet I’m still looking into things) really appreciate this. This needs to be talked about more and taken much more seriously. The fact that religious leader from all branches of Christianity abuse others and get away with it is sick and I’m sorry you and your family have gone through that. I believe you portrayed Mother Mary as a victim of the abuse as well. When nuns, priests, and monks abuse others and then force them to take responsibility through Mary, it paints her in a bad light as well. My family has also gone through religious trauma by a Baptist church. Not to the extent of yours though. Appreciate you guys.
@@PaddyW106 absolutely! It’s so so important to have a bit of understanding and compassions for songs like this. This is a hard topic and an uncomfortable one, and that’s a good thing. Things like this need to be addressed and need to be called out in every single sect of Christianity. Abuse in the house of God cannot go unnoticed and the victims have to be given justice. This is what God commands. I’m so so sorry you and your family went through what you have went through. Thanks for making this, idk about everyone else but I personally will be bumping this consecutive banger. How do you guys not miss on a single song? They’re all so good.
When I read the first 3rd of the lyrics I thought I was listening to the first protestant core song. I see now it wasn't exactly that ha... But still, powerful stuff.
Y'all need discernment to understand the depth and message of these lyrics. It's about misuse and abuse of power within an organization... Innocence destroyed by corruption.
It is, and it's a necessary message. The problem is more having to do that these words are straight from Scriptures, when Luke has the Archangel Gabriel say to Mary "Hail Mary, full of grace ("o favored one")," so it's not just about the prayer itself, but Scriptures. Sounds like it could have been written in a more balanced, nuanced way.
Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, Sancta Dei Genetrix. Nostras deprecationes ne despicias in necessitatibus, sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper, Virgo gloriosa et benedicta.
Wow. Very good song with a great point/message. I can't help but think there could have been a need for more discernment in the lyrics or presentation, considering how polarizing this will come across to many Catholics. Granted, this is just my two cents in hopes that this doesn't turn into a fight between genuine believers in Christ alone. An argument could be made that this is a highly loving message that could have been more nuanced and gracefully seasoned. Regardless, it's a great song and a great message.
Thank you, when writing this I knew how polarising this would be. Having be born and raised a Irish Roman Catholic I can only write from a perspective of a lived experience. That being involved in the catholic church, seeing how people in positions of power can manipulate scripture to support their abuse and gaslight their victims. I really appreciate you taking the time to listen, comment, read and understand. God Bless.
@@PaddyW106Are you still Catholic? As a catholic myself I understand perfectly the case of abuse of power, false teachers or demons inside the Catholic Church or any Christian church. they should be exposed and judged with justice and punishment. My problem is why attack our blessed mother the Virgin Mary? Why not just attack those who abuse power and are demons disguised as priests or preachers? There isn’t abuse of power only in the Catholic Church but on all Protestant denominations too. Unfortunately these demons give a bad image to Christ church and us as Christians and followers of Christ.
Corrent in both points. And not just to Catholics, but also to Luke himself, he's the one that used those exact words (or more accurately, the Archangel Gabriel), so that's a little alarming to say the least.
@@SebOlwardDrums Y'all should seriously think about doing an EP with Convictions where y'all each do your own version of a couple of the other's songs.
Considering what Stephen told me about the church in England I am shocked at how powerful the message is. I hope it revives and reforms alot of souls in the UK ❤
Speaking out against abuse is totally appropriate. Rejecting scripture and being divisive to over half the world's faithful Christians is not. Mary should be a comfort to us that she bore such a burden and yet was gifted so greatly. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. For you hath bore the savior of our souls. By the prayers of the Theotokos save us.
You should re read the lyrics as you have missed the point of the song. This is not vilifying Mary, it’s highlighting that people who abuse use her prayer as a way of making their victims feel guilt for the actions of the abuser.
That's how I feel as I read the lyrics. Even if the message is from the POV of an abused person, it is actually in the Scriptures that the first part of the prayer is found, so it seems like an unnecessary way of using those sacred, scriptural words.
Just because a vocalist featured with HolyName doesn’t mean he is also Easterb Orthodox. You really think Mike, Ryan Clark, Joe Musten, and Brook Reeves are all also Eastern Orthodox?
There is no theological bias in the writing of the song, WE as Christian's should stand together against abuse within our sacred walls. I happen to be born and raised Irish Roman Catholic and the song is about a families lived experience of abuse by the hands of evil people, not an attack on the Catholic Church.
* A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman* clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.* Her child was caught up to God and his throne Then the dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus
These lyrics are about abuse in the name of God and the pain of the people abused. This can plainly apply to an evangelical pastor as much as a catholic priest. We protestants should look at the planck in our own eyes first before pointing roman catholic's specks!
Really strong words, very important to note and your right. As I grew up RC this is the imagery that I know and the message that we were gaslight with. But abuse it everywhere. The church isn’t evil, just some of the people are. Thank you again
Hey mate, thank you. The lyrics tell a story of how Mother Mary's name and prayer was used to gaslight and manipulate my family. Please re-read the lyrics with that in mind and you'll understand. There are also deeper explanations in the comments from me about it all.
This song is less to do with theology and more to do with abuse at the hands of leaders… not really sure why it’s being used to ignite the theology convo?🤔
Not sure how much of a fan I am rejecting Mary rather than rejecting a church, but the message came across none the less I think. Amazing song no doubt, but as a Catholic who dislikes the people of a church, not the church or its followings, ima still honor Mary.
Hey mate glad you like the song. Just to clear things up a little. The song in no way is rejecting Mary. It is rejecting those who hide behind her and her prayer. Those who use it as a tool for manipulation. You're so right in your comment the church it's self is beautiful as are its people it's some of the evil people within in it (not all). The song is a personal experience and i know it happens else where. Hence the specifics of the lyrics. Thank you for taking the time to comment and listen.
Maybe dumb here , and I’m asking an honest question in good faith but I heard this song was “controversial” and the comments said it tackled a heavy topic. When I read the lyrics I just read it as them disavowing and dunking on Catholics. Can this please be explained even a little bit?
Hey mate, as the writer of the song I can tell you there is no theological bias here. I'm a born and bred Catholic, went to catholic school, college and university, and my family is till very much involved with the church. This song is a story of how I and my family grew up in the catholic church and the monks and nuns would physically, emotionally and SA abuse the children. They would then gaslight the kids into believe they were at fault and sinful thus making them pray on the rosary to Mary for salvation. Only for the abuse to continue. Its a deeply personal story. It's a story told from a personal perspective of a truth at the time. There is general abuse across all denominations, ours just happened to be in a Catholic one. Thank you for taking the time to seek the truth when alot of people have jumped to conclusion
@@PaddyW106 I am sorry for the abuse you and people you knew suffered. Im a catholic and im also a charismatic evangelical YWAMER- are either of these bands anti-catholic? I dont assume so by the lyrics but i want to clarify
Hey mate thanks for commenting, as the writer of the song. A born and raised Catholic. Went to Catholic School, college and university. Confessions of a Traitor and Convictions are not Anti-Catholic. The song is a personal story of abuse by some bad people, not the church its self. Hope this helps ❤️
Convictions… I should hope not considering they use Catholic terminology and historical references in their songs at times. Hopefully they don’t make the mistake of hopping on a track like this again. As for this song… short answer: yes it is anti Catholic according to the lyrics. “You protect yourself with God's name With these crooked lies you proclaim Do you have no shame?” I’ll charitably assume that part does not reference Mary rather the wolves that abused people… of course the song is called Hail Mary… pretty sure it is not meant to honor Mary. Dishonor the Mother of our Lord whom honors his Mother perfectly… not a good idea. “Hail Mary full of grace I must reject your embrace I loathe the guilt you make me feel There is no salvation your prayer provides” Mary, the Mother of Christ Jesus, is said to make one feel guilt, Mary’s embrace is rejected - ok a little odd to reject the mother of our Lords embrace (thankfully the blessed apostle John did not reject Mary as Jesus was about to die on the cross)… Then of course the implication that those praying to Mary are attempting to attain salvation from Mary… which is heresy. “Hail Mary full of Grace I must reject you’re embrace I pray for your sinners now, and at the hour of their death.” I pray for your sinners now… vs Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners… Mary is no longer praying for sinners she now causes people to sin. Yup really giving to the abusers for sure nothing at all anti catholic here. And of course the entire song with the use of Mary & the Hail Mary etc. Implicates the Catholic Church. Therefore the Catholic Church is teaching that we can attain salvation through Mary. And if so facto the Catholic Church has been led to teach heresy for 1500 years + (then the reformers came and set us straight) meaning Christ failed to keep his promise to preserve the church… which is blasphemy… the same church that the Holy Spirit used to compile, canonize, copy, and preserve the scriptures… the church Protestants cannot trust. Interesting. This song provides zero distinction between the Catholic Church, what they teach Mary, and the abusers. Yes this song is due to one’s personal experience… in the Catholic Church… to read the lyrics and somehow conclude the song is about the abusers and not necessarily anything else just does not follow.
@@stevenserna2429 are Christians all one body in Christ? When one physically dies are they then separated from the body of Christ or made perfect? Christ says we will NEVER die. Everyone Christian you know that is dead is now ALIVE in heaven, but the Lord couldn’t possibly allow those in Heaven to be made aware of certain things on earth and most definitely would not allow them to pray for those on earth to Jesus Christ the one mediator between God and men? Oh wait He can and does… Revelation 5:13. And where might this “cloud of witnesses” be in Hebrews 12:1? What are they witnessing? Go a little deeper if you seek to understand. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you whether or not these things are true… if you so choose.
@@Faith_Of_The_First_Order is Hebrews 12 they are called witnesses because we are being told not to be discouraged because there are many before who have witnessed to those trials and the face of faith, not actually current witnesses as one in a crime
This song dishonors Mary and the Catholic Church and our Lord… but the lord knows our hearts… that being said this song slaps Mary… so yeah… not good to say the least.
@@stevenserna2429 interesting… John’s vision in Rev 5:13 would beg to differ. One mediator between God and man… that old chestnut… Every Christian knows and believes this to be true. So men/women that have physically died yet are alive in heaven can still pray correct? Though somehow if you ask them to pray for you (as they are not dead and are perfected through Christ in heaven) to the one mediator between God and men they then become the one mediator between God and men?? I certainly hope you do not allow your friends and family to pray for you if that is your belief. Wonder why the Lord says we are to pray for one another and that the prayers of a righteous man availith much? Doesn’t He know there is only one mediator between Himself (God) and men? What are those in Heaven praying for? Why can John hear every creature on earth… or was he hallucinating? Obviously those in Heaven can be made aware of things on earth… Prayer = to ask A valiant effort though.
@@stevenserna2429 John is in Heaven. “And I HEARD EVERY CREATURE in heaven and on EARTH and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, SAYING, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” But John you’re in Heaven you can’t hear that! You must be hallucinating John!
Hi guys, I enjoy the musicality of the song but am conflicted with the intention of the lyrics. I recognize and respect the personal struggle and pain expressed and am truly sorry that you dealt with this and will be praying for you! As a catechized Catholic I am struggling on the intent. Since the church does not profess that praying to Mary is a saving grace, as that can only come from Jesus. I recognize this would need to be a theological discussion which doesn’t belong in a comment section, but I fear that this will empower people to further misunderstand the Catholic Churches teaching of salvation and our relationship with Mary and other saints. The lyrics seem to imply that the church professes that salvation can come through Mary (which is heretical and not Catholic doctrine). Again I appreciate the song, I do recognize there are abuses of power in every church (Catholics and Protestants alike) and I welcome the challenging dialogue songs like this bring, I just want to be respectful to Catholic doctrine too and not empower others by false teachings. Much love and respect C.O.A.T! God bless ✝️
Thank you for taking the time to create such a measured and rationed response. As a born and raised Irish Roman Catholic, went to school, college and university that were all Catholic this is absolutely not an anti catholic song. Nuns and monks taught my family in Ireland and the manipulated them through the use of the prayer, gaslighting them into believing they were at fault for the abuse they were receiving. The prayer was used as a tool for manipulation, the disillusionment felt when praying for salvation, when the abuse continued is where the lyrics came from. Evil people manipulating the words of God. The song has no theological bias as even with all that happened my family are still practicing Catholics. Bless you for taking the time to deepen your understanding of the song.
@@PaddyW106thank you for the explanation, Stephen. I really respect your work and your commitment to faith. I will be praying for you and your family. Important message, dope video, very dope song, and the best collab! Much love! God bless! Mary was an amazing woman but she has no part in our salvation and we in no way are called to pray to her or the saints. We are saved by Jesus's death and resurrection.
She is the mother of God, more honorable than the Cherubim, more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim, without corruption she gave birth to God the Word. She had a part in our salvation because she consented to the conception of Christ. Without the Theotokos, we do not have Jesus Christ incarnate. ☦
Really interesting song! I’m still taking it all in and deciding if I like it or not lol. I love the lyrics though! Great message. Mary cannot save us from our sin, but Jesus does!
@@blazzer73553as a reformed believer in Christ I’ve done a deep dive into every denomination to find a place for my family and I. Every Roman Catholic and every Orthodox Christian knows that you cannot pray TO Mary or any of the saints. Christ is the God of the Living, the saints are alive in heaven. The Theotokos, Blessed Mother, is venerated and spoken to as you speak to anyone one else in the church and they ask her to pray for them, the same way you would ask the person sitting in the pew next to you to pray for you. When we Protestants say “they pray/worship Mary” it falls on deaf ears and makes us sound stupid to them, these are our brothers and sisters in Christ whom chose to keep Christian tradition rather than turn to our Sola Scriptura, even though they also believe the only law is scripture, they have other traditions like we have our own traditions. I mean, why don’t we attack Mormons or Jehovahs Witnesses or Seventh Day Adventists or Christian Scientists the way we attack Roman Catholics or Orthodox Christians???
The lyrics are not speaking in support of praying to Mary, hence the clause “I reject your embrace.” The vocalist says at the end of the song (after saying “pray for us sinners” in the Catholic prayer he says) “now I pray for your sinners” (referring to Mary), thus saying that people who pray to Mary are sinners.
I think I get the message, but to be honest, the lyrics are either blasphemous or borderline so, even if from the POV of one abused by the so-called clergy or "men of God." The angel in Scriptures is the one who says "Hail Mary, full of grace ("favored one")," so to use it in such way just seems... Yeah, not great. But then the actual prayer is there, so maybe I should be happy to have this beautiful ancient prayer be represented in awesome extreme metal? Hehe.
I’m confused by all the comments thinking COAT is promoting Catholicism when they’re clearly rejecting it. Maybe they just got triggered by the song’s title.
@@PaddyW106 As a Catholic myself, I was hoping this song would be more positive toward the Church, but alas… I do find interesting the use of the Sorrowful Mother imagery in the artwork. Certainly her heart is also grieved by the harm caused by those who claim to be acting in her Son’s Name.
@@chillgaze born and raised Catholic myself. There are personal depths to the song that are being over looked. Having had family members grow up being taught by nuns, the prayer was used to push the abusive actions of “a small number of individuals” on to those who received the abuse. To make them feel guilty for the actions of others.
@@PaddyW106 God have mercy... Your lyrics, then, are a great example of the dangers of taking things too much at face value, without considering the depth and personal experience behind them.

I believe you have misinterpreted the lyrics my friend. Am not taking her name in vein. The people who abuse are the ones who use her name in vein to manipulate.
Yeah, you're talking about people who commit abuses using faith, but it seems you're using only Catholics elements on the song/video, which suggests the bad seeds are only in my religion, which is absolutely not true. The true religion must not be abused to serve as a message or propaganda, although it is right to expose these bad people who claim to be religious but are not.
@@VacaJairo20 I was raised Irish Roman Catholic. Educated in catholic School, college and university. This is direct imagery from my upbringing and the trauma that I witnessed happen to family and friends. The song isn’t about dunking on the Catholic Church but the bad people within it.
I'm sorry these bad things happened to you and the ones around you, unfortunately a great number of people lost the faith after the last Vatican Council, and it opened the field of the Holy Church to very bad seeds, just as it is written on the Bible, but God will separate the good from the bad in due time. Let's pray for the Holy Catholic Church, and Christ will help the Just to keep going strong on the faith, and persevere till the end. Ave Christus Rex.
Nah not fighting for the Freemasons thats what they want. Youre watching a tv show. Which character is your favorite? Biff from Back To The Future or The Creepy Old Man from Family Guy? Im looking forward to next season (unless China cancels it)
Conflicted about this one. The sex abuse scandal in the Church was very serious and painful for so many. I can understand and validate writing about that pain. However, I really disagree with using Mary, the chosen mother of Jesus, as a means to take that pain out on. It's understandable to take frustration out on the Church, but this take ain't it.
I say exactly that in the Pre chorus. Hail Mary full of Grace I must reject you’re embrace I loathe guilt you make me feel inside There's no salvation your prayer provides Hail Mary full of Grace Your prayer can not erase The guilt, the shame, the wounds sustained There's no salvation from this pain
Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, many see Mary as an idol that is worshipped. We must reject all idols. I don't think anyone is being malicious towards Mary or saying she is to blame for the corruption within the church. Merely, we must reject her as an idol (just as we must reject anyone and any other thing who is worshipped instead of God).
@@phoenix8990 tell me you know nothing about catholicism without telling me you know nothing about catholicism. This idea of an idolized Mary you guys have is the fruit of the anti catholic evangelicals. No devout catholic worships Mary. And I don't say this as an attack, but you have an unbiblical idea of worship as in just prayer or singing. Worshipping is not just that. For us, worshipping is participating in Jesus's body and blood offered in the His Supper. Just like worship in the Old Testament was about taking part in the offered sacrifices. So a prayer to the saints is nowhere near worship and will never be
And this is not something exclusive to catholics. Even the traditional Calvinist view on the Lord's Supper is of real presence, spiritually. But the same concept applies. That's what worship is

Well said. It’s not explicitly anti-Catholic but it is explicitly speaking against the loving embrace of the Mother of God.

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”
Might need to look into the lyrics a bit deeper.
You misunderstand this passage. However if we are going to use it as you are trying to us it, stop asking people to pray for you, stop asking for group prayers and for prayers for your loved ones. For asking them to pray for you you are asking for more than one mediator between you and God.
There is only one name under heaven given among men by which men must be saved.
@@meatshield72so do you think people who have passed can pray for you? You don't seem to remember enough of the scriptures to check your math, so to speak, so I'll remind you it's appointed once for a man to die and then after that the judgement.

Thank you so much for this and taking the time to look into the lyrics and understand. You're a blessing
Y'all need discernment to understand the depth and message of these lyrics.
It's about misuse and abuse of power within an organization... Innocence destroyed by corruption.
Thank you for taking the time to look deeper into this song mate! Bless you!

Thankyou for your time 👊
Thank you, when writing this I knew how polarising this would be.

Speaking of rejecting scripture: Romans 10:9. Your prayers to Mary won’t save you.
@@woodchipper2256True. Although they’re not praying to Mary
That's how I feel as I read the lyrics. Even if the message is from the POV of an abused person, it is actually in the Scriptures that the first part of the prayer is found, so it seems like an unnecessary way of using those sacred, scriptural words.
Endlich mal wieder christliche Mucke die Spaß macht! Gott segne euch!

Strange that Michael Felker would feat for this song since he was feat in an Eastern Orthodox song a year ago. Eastern Ortho's pray to Mary as well.
She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.* Her child was caught up to God and his throne
Then the dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus
Very raw lyrically. Relatable. Not Catholic myself. I like the lyrical progression at the end.
We’re glad you enjoyed the lyrical content and the song ❤️
Glad you enjoy it man!
Thank you so much mate!
Thank you mate. I really appreciate the time you took to read the lyrics they mean a lot
Appreciate it, hopefully see you at a show soon
These lyrics are about abuse in the name of God and the pain of the people abused. This can plainly apply to an evangelical pastor as much as a catholic priest. We protestants should look at the planck in our own eyes first before pointing roman catholic's specks!
Really strong words, very important to note and your right. As I grew up RC this is the imagery that I know and the message that we were gaslight with. But abuse it everywhere. The church isn’t evil, just some of the people are.
Thank you again
man this song slaps, but I wish you didn't associate the Theotokos with abuse of the Church. I'm not Catholic but have deep respect for Mother Mary.
Hey mate, thank you. The lyrics tell a story of how Mother Mary's name and prayer was used to gaslight and manipulate my family. Please re-read the lyrics with that in mind and you'll understand. There are also deeper explanations in the comments from me about it all.
SOMEONE SHOW OHRION REACTS OH MY GOD
This song is less to do with theology and more to do with abuse at the hands of leaders… not really sure why it’s being used to ignite the theology convo?🤔
Would love to sit down and discuss it with you on your podcast. Big fan of your work ❤
Not sure how much of a fan I am rejecting Mary rather than rejecting a church, but the message came across none the less I think.
@ thank you for clarifying! Your music is amazing. Never stop no matter how much hate you may get.
I of course did not know that and am grateful you have been able to find an outlet for that pain as well as (and more importantly) remain a person of faith. @@badhousemedia6983 Thank you mate! And the real gratitude should be for you taking the time to seek a deeper meaning. Understanding and listening to our story. Always strong in faith!
“You protect yourself with God's name
With these crooked lies you proclaim
Do you have no shame?”
I’ll charitably assume that part does not reference Mary rather the wolves that abused people… of course the song is called Hail Mary… pretty sure it is not meant to honor Mary. Dishonor the Mother of our Lord whom honors his Mother perfectly… not a good idea.
“Hail Mary full of grace
I must reject your embrace
I loathe the guilt you make me feel
There is no salvation your prayer provides”
Mary, the Mother of Christ Jesus, is said to make one feel guilt, Mary’s embrace is rejected - ok a little odd to reject the mother of our Lords embrace (thankfully the blessed apostle John did not reject Mary as Jesus was about to die on the cross)…
Then of course the implication that those praying to Mary are attempting to attain salvation from Mary… which is heresy.
“Hail Mary full of Grace
I must reject you’re embrace
I pray for your sinners now,
and at the hour of their death.”
I pray for your sinners now… vs Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners… Mary is no longer praying for sinners she now causes people to sin.
Mary cant hear your prayers.
As a Catholic, this song still slaps. I understand the view point, but disagree. There is power in praying for intercession with saints and Mary.
This song dishonors Mary and the Catholic Church and our Lord… but the lord knows our hearts… that being said this song slaps Mary… so yeah… not good to say the least.
Mary cant hear your prayers, There is only one mediator between us and God, and that is Jesus Christ
Obviously those in Heaven can be made aware of things on earth…
Prayer = to ask
A valiant effort though.
@@Faith_Of_The_First_Order what does that verse have anything to do with what I said?
@@stevenserna2429 John is in Heaven. “And I HEARD EVERY CREATURE in heaven and on EARTH and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, SAYING, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”
But John you’re in Heaven you can’t hear that!

Important message, dope video, very dope song, and the best collab! Much love! God bless! Mary was an amazing woman but she has no part in our salvation and we in no way are called to pray to her or the saints. We are saved by Jesus's death and resurrection.
Thank you mate!
Yea well.... It's clear in the Bible to NOT pray to Mary or anyone other than Jesus.
@@TRS_ he told you that’s why he wrote it? “Pray for us sinners” is a part of the “Hail Mary” in Roman Catholicism. Also… did you read my comment?
@@TRS_spot on take!
You’ve really dug deep into the lyrics here. Thank you for taking the time to listen to the song and read into it.
I agree not a lot of people have bothered even listening let alone reading the lyrics.
I am a Christian and I'm still trying to unpack the depth in this amazing song. I would definitely love to sit down and discuss it with y'all, just supremely impressed with it and how y'all just keep getting more amazing and reaching new heights.
Do not use the name of Our Lady in vein, just as the name of Our Lord. We owe great respect for them. Ave Maria Gratia Plena!
I believe you have misinterpreted the lyrics my friend. Am not taking her name in vein.
The people who abuse are the ones who use her name in vein to manipulate.
Certainly not doing that, please take a deeper look into the lyrics and what it means on a personal level
Im looking forward to next season (unless China cancels it)
Theotokos pray for us.
Someone should recommend this song to Candace Owens 😅
Conflicted about this one. The sex abuse scandal in the Church was very serious and painful for so many. I can understand and validate writing about that pain. However, I really disagree with using Mary, the chosen mother of Jesus, as a means to take that pain out on. It's understandable to take frustration out on the Church, but this take ain't it.
I say exactly that in the Pre chorus.
Hail Mary full of Grace
I must reject you’re embrace
I loathe guilt you make me feel inside
There's no salvation your prayer provides
Hail Mary full of Grace
Your prayer can not erase
The guilt, the shame, the wounds sustained
There's no salvation from this pain

That's what worship is
I get the anger like Sinead called out Pope JP2 but calling out the Virgin Mary is not only not cool but kind of blasé
The song is not calling out the Virgin Mary, its calling out the abusers who use her prayer to gaslight their victims.
@PaddyW106 alright maybe I had a quick trigger finger
Its always a shame to see our protestant brothers and sisters display their anti catholic bigotry. Was really excited when i saw this but its the same old story. Ill pray for you guys.

@@PaddyW106 yes and we’re all called to be participant in our salvation through the covenant established by Jesus Christ . The Theotokos is the new Ark of The Covenant, if the Israelites venerated the Ark why wouldn’t you show Her the same veneration?
Hey, a song that goes as hard as protestant ignorance.
From as dense as Rock to as dense as Metal.
Goodness, man.
A+ for musicianship, but you completely flunked as far as the lyrical content goes.
This song has nothing to do with theology or Christian denominations. Its a story of childhood abuse, it just so happens i was brough up in the catholic church. I can only tell the story from my families lived experience.
Im gett a lot of different messages from this song. Can someone explain this song too me. It sounds like theres hurt from the church and also there is talk about rejection of Mary. While i agree people shouldn't pray to anyone but God but this seems to put mary in a negative light. Again i could be wrong
Hey mate, as the writer of the song I can tell you there is no theological bias here.
Thank you for taking the time to seek the truth when alot of people have jumped to conclusions.
Hello. Thank you for taking the time to explain and give me clarity on the meaning of the song. I'm sorry that evil has been exposed too you and the children at that church. It's infuriating to know that the place you're supposed to feel the most safe can harm you the most.
