When Trump announced that he was running in 2015 then I had applied for a visa to the UK, and thankfully got in before his presidency had begun.
Can highly recommend being out of the US at a time in which Donald Trump might be president.

As a "Tercera Edad" (senior citizen) I get generous discounts, pay $81/mo. for excellent and free healthcare, and get back a portion of sales taxes paid. And it has the Dollar for currency. Yes, Germany is quickly becoming the land of the pensioners. At some point the system will break under its own weight and the social contract will have to be renegotiated, but depending on how old you are, it may or may not affect you directly.
Did you give up your US citizenship? Also, Toscana of Germany, what did you mean by that? Did you mean "Ticino" of Germany (as in the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland that's warmer both culturally and weather wise than the rest of that country)? What's analogous to Ticino in Germany? I would guess something like Konstanz or to be even more esoteric guess the German enclave within Switzerland called "Büsingen am Hochrhein"? Just a guess, don't have to give your real locality but a rough area... looking to retire back to Europe in the next 10-15 years and starting very, very preliminary scouting.

@@mva6044 Hi, I am away in Oman and have lots to do just now.
Thanks for your interest. When I finally decided on a German future, I imagined dual citizenship. My first apöplikcyation failed. I argued that part of my income came from the States. Using the same argumentation I tried a second time. When I came to do formalities the authorities presented a document whereby I renounced US citizenship. In short, I acceded and am now 100% "German". From my upbringing I am American. My wife is German.
We are horrified about the political scene especially because I served in the USAR and was raised in a conservative way.
Our home is close to Baden Baden. It is warm. We harvest 2 weeks earlier than 100 km to the north, thus "Toscana of Germany".
I do not regret my choice. In ghe States I already spoke German from my graduate studies and for personal reasons. No-one had an inkling in the 1990s that MAGA would strive for a dictatorship. I voted a couple of time Rep before expatriating- for the candidate, not the party.

Nearly all expats moving to Europe chose the capitals, leaving the housing market in huge disarray for the locals. Understandable if they are looking for other expats to network with, but they also miss out on the opportunity if getting to know charming slightly smaller cities and towns with a decent housing market and plenty of locals to interact with.

It is not so easy to move to another country, unless (like I did) you work for a company or in a profession (teaching for me), that wll enable you to get proper visas/residencies/etc. There is also the 'culture shock' of leaving your familiar community/family/friends and starting anew elsewhere. Moving abroad is not for the faint of heart.

It’s important to remember that every European country with a strong social welfare system, work/life balance, publicly funded medical care, and all the other aspects of life that are assumed to be of value to Democratic US citizens, also have similar societal pressures, anti-immigration sentiments, growing resentment of green initiatives, and surging right-wing parties fueled by all of the above. And unless you are able to claim citizenship by descent, you will not be able to vote in your adopted country for at least five years, or in some cases even longer. Leaving the US is an opportunity to get out of the immediate vicinity of a certain brand of chaos, but it doesn’t allow us to stick our heads in the sand - and chaos has a way of spreading, too. A right wing party is ultimately ok when there are several parties to choose from. In the US both parties are right wing, although as long as trump is alive his 3rd party (MAGA) is centered around him as an autocratic leader and is extremely right wing. We have no ability to have even a third party to be more moderate, so even other weak democracies offer more choice and support for most people.

The best diving is off "liveaboards". But the country is magnificent. Warning. If you think you are going to explore those "rain forests" on your own Think again, unless your name is Tarzan. They have Panthers,(Spotted and black), The 6' + constrictor snakes, are not "Invasive" they live there. The poisonous snakes look like rocks or weeds, and some ground birds look like poisonous snakes. There is a popular bridge where people go to watch the "gators bask". I asked my guide, "Are those alligators (Caymans), or Crocodiles? He said, "Both my friend". And there is a reason why Costa Ricans call the white-faced monkeys "The Mafia". They steal anything edible or shiny. And if you came up in a working-class neighborhood where people kept dogs for security, that barked all night, you haven't heard anything until the "Howler monkeys" start at 3AM. But that's stuff I can live with. NOT another Trump term.

Hi Kristin-- I'm a huge fan of yours, your videos helped me make the GREAT decision to move to Mexico as a person who chooses to live a minimalist/high quality lifestyle.
I quit my airline job-- and now I travel more than I did as a Flight Attendant because I'm a Digital Nomad saving tons of money for confirmed seats instead of 'standby' employee seats (where we often get bumped 2-3 times every leg)... I'd rather just pay. I am a NEVER Trumper and am appalled that nearly 50% Americans seem to think a convicted criminal is a good candidate to run our country. Okay....NOT. If Kamala wins, I will move back to Jacksonville Beach FL, which is my favorite city in the country and travel from there....but until then--- I'm happy to be living near wonderful, kind people in a 3-bed, 2-bath very nice house in a walkable city outside of Mexico City and my portion of the rent is less than $400. I rent out the other 2 bedrooms to a really nice young bi-lingual woman and her 8-year-old son who were deported from US after living there 18 years. Life is good:-)

Thank you so much for this video! While I think I will stay in the US if Trump wins, I think the anxiety will be overwhelming. I was anxious all during his first term because of the brutality and chaos. This time, I will be on his "enemy within" list, so may actually be in danger of arrest or other harassment. I am 73 years old, so well-settled in my US lifestyle. Since language would be a barrier, what you said about Canada and France were both good for me, although I worry about expense. Most of all, this video has lowered my anxiety level. I think Harris will win due to the extreme enthusiasm -- greater than during any previous election -- even when Obama was running. But the polls are so close. Therefore, it was nice to pin down some possibilities just in case Trump wins.

The USA could then learn how to do comprehensive healthcare, how to create a fair, progressive and effective taxation system for the common good, how to spend money on education and the social universal good instead of mainly on just the military, and why its so important to get big money out of politics. It's not that simple. US pays more to help out other countries, to go "green" which isn't working out as well as promised and ESPECIALLY bc the US keeps the oceans free of pirates (we are pretty much the only ones!) Plus paying the majority of the costs of NATO which means all of Europe can spend their money differently.
Plus the immigration issues are happening in ALL of these countries and they are ALL starting to collapse under the strain.
It's not as simple or as wonderful as advertised

There are no perfect countries (maybe Norway and Switzeland are getting close). I'm an immigrant and I chose the USA after having traveled to many countries on different continents. There is a reason why millions of immigrants come to the States from all over the world. No "free" healthcare? Who cares if the country provides plenty of opportunities to make money and buy your own insurance. Less taxes than in most of developed countries mean you can save more for what is important for you. Safety nets are not free and government will abuse money it gets.

When seen close up, I wouldn't really agree, and that applies in differing degrees to both flavours of government in recent times. Norway and Scandinavia generally are great at projecting a certain image of responsible governance, and they may indeed be more progressive compared to certain other nations, but on environmental issues, to take just one policy area, these countries are pioneers of hypocrisy.
Nice that the transport sector is being electrified. Not so nice that oil and gas exploration is likely to be sustained for many decades, justified with weak excuses of "transitions", when the real reason is that the money is just too good. And yet the amusing thing is that, contrary to international perceptions, you'll hear exactly the same arguments about there not being enough money for public projects as you will in places like the UK where the state is supposedly hard-up.
Then there is the matter of regressive, neoliberal policy accompanied by nativism and culture warfare being seen as attractive traits to be imported from places like the US and UK into local politics. It isn't more comforting hearing cowardly, anti-foreigner rhetoric just because it emerges from the mouth of a blonde woman, to take but one example.

In choosing the country, keep in mind that the results of this election will have repercussions worldwide. For example, if the U.S. pulls out of NATO, that will embolden Putin to set his sights on other countries that have been victims of Russian expansionism in the past, such as Norway. I’m not saying that it will happen, just that other countries will be affected by what happens in the U.S. so expats will have to make strategic decisions.

As Ronald Reagan observed in the mid-1980's, most Latinos are Republicans, they just don't know it. By that, he meant they have strong conservative family values. It's looking like there will be almost 50% of Latinos in the US voting for DT.

Great Video, but I have to correct you in one point according Germany. Chancellor Merkel - while being great and moderate - still was a member of the conservative democratic party, which is equivalent of the right wing republican party . Olaf Scholz is a member of the social democratic party leaning more left of the middle.
But our System has more parties left and right of those, and the divide is nowhere near as drastic as in the US.

Sorry, but the CDU is not equivalent to the Republicans, not by a long shot. They may be moving further to the right as of late, but they're still worlds apart from the fascist Republicans. The actual Republican analog would be the AFD, who have even copied some of the rhetoric from the US nazis. Our conservatives may have their own issues, but to say they're equivalent to the Republicans is just straight-up incorrect.

I'd really like to move to New Zealand, but apparently NZ doesn't want us. I'm 67 and retired with SS and a pension, and wife is almost 65 with a pension, and about to start getting SS. We have a slightly-disabled daughter for whom we provide all support, and we have over $600K in assets. I simply cannot continue to live here in trump's nightmare. Can anyone help us get to NZ, please?

    Where has discernment gone?
Why do Trump supporters make excuses for him and give him a pass for all the despicable and unlawful things he has done?
What happened to values, character & honesty?
