I have a terribly rocky bed that grew more potatoes by far than my grow bags. I also found that those in big pots did not produce as much as the terrible soil

Great experiment! I learned several things. My Yukon Golds in raised beds didn’t do very well either this year. I’m definitely going to try grow bags or 5 gallon buckets next year. Glad you mentioned 1 seed potato per 5 gallon bucket. Thanks for the tip! TN, Zone 7.

Ok, I think you need to go out and recheck your grow bags. The best way to harvest a grow bag is to pick it up and dump it into a wheelbarrow. Also, you didn't dig very deep in your raised bed either. I'm thinking you may have more potatoes deeper. Use your hands, not a shovel.

@@vickyannpaintingwithoils I'm aware of what she is doing. It's hardly controlled. How would dumping the bag and getting ALL the potatoes out affect the control. This entire video proved nothing.

Yes, she is in a hurry, focused on TH-cam and not the garden.

Looking forward to see how the other potatoes did!

Would like to see how they did in the greenstalk

I loved this video. I'm growing for the first time and because I had no idea.... I've planted about 7 different types of potatoes. I hadn't weighed them but can see the value in doing so x😊

I really enjoy test videos. I know it's a lot of work, but I appreciate the work. This year I'm trying two plants instead of three in each grow bag. With three I got pretty small potatoes, so I'm hoping for better size this year. Time will tell!

That was my thought behind doing only two in each grow bag, when technically three would work. I would love to do a comparison like you're doing. Would love to hear how your two potato experiment compares to the three!

I live in central Arkansas as well. Didn't grow potatoes this year, nice harvest, but I have the same issues you describe. Looks like I might try these purple ones next year :)

My Adirondak blues and reds didn’t do well in our heavy clay soil (Oklahoma zone 7). The foliage has completely died back and the potatoes are small. I have one blue in a raised bed, and it’s still growing. Raised beds will be the way to grow future crops for me.

Yeah, I kept noticing year after year that my ground bed yields were always lower. Clay soil here, too. This year was the first year I didn't go to the effort. It's so much more labor to plant seed potatoes in clay soil, and the results weren't justifying the labor.

I had 2 russet potatoes in 10 gal grow bags this year. It was a very disappointing harvest. 5 small potatoes per bag. Last time I'll use grow bags for potatoes.

I will not grow in grow bags again. I had to be the helicopter gardener and constantly worrying about water and nutrients

Potting mix is the key because their is more nutrients.

Bags require more watering and a confined space. I hate the felt grow bags. Super hard to pull the roots out of the bag. Hands down raised bed. Gives plants room to grow.

I have to laugh. I love my felt bags. Wouldn't do potatoes any other way.
