William Windom (the President) was Commodore Decker in _TOS_ "The Doomsday Machine."
Jerry Goldsmith composed the music for _Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection,_ and the themes for _Star Trek: Voyager_ and _Star Trek: The Next Generation._
Leonard Rosenman, who composed the score for _Beneath the Planet of the Apes,_ also composed the score for _Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home._
The spaceship arrival scene was shot at the same beach as the ending of the first film.

Hey, Ollie! I'm glad your back to these! The chimpanzee killed was "Dr. Milo", who somehow managed to recover the Icarus (Taylor's ship), put it back together, and get it off the ground.
10:10 - The guy objecting to "lawfully wedded" was a priest, who objected based on their species.
11:10 - "That's the only thing that does." - Dr. Otto Hasslien (played by soap opera star Eric Braeden). He was referred to back in the first movie during Taylor's monologue at the start of the movie. It was his "theory" about the possibility of "time dilation" causing a ship near the speed of light to pass through time.
15:10 - The word "pet" was used to describe "beautiful women" a very long time ago. Of course, it was a double-sided joke, here. But the reporter wasn't being insulting about it.
15:25 - Freeze frame that. The metal thing that the couple are flinging themselves back and forth on.... I had one of those as a kid, around the same time this movie came out. Thinking back on it, all of the dangerous toys we had back in the 70s, taught us a bit about physics, gravity, and pain, without having to read anything. =D
16:40 - Back then, women would drink while pregnant, smoke while pregnant, and some would even do drugs while pregnant. The first two, if it was "in moderation", it wasn't seen (or known) to be a bad thing. The last one.... yeah, they knew that was bad, but "addicts".
17:13 - Not sure if you noticed, but there is a small continuity error here: Zira says the year on the ship was 3950-something. When Taylor's ship crashed into the lake, it read 3978. I guess they figured with the original movie out of theaters by a few years, and the only time you would ever see it would be on television, it wasn't likely to be spotted. Plus, most people didn't look for those kinds of details.
18:30 - You'll notice, it was also the plot of the movie The Terminator.
25:00 - You forget, apes are a LOT stronger than humans.
25:55 - "She" is Natalie Trundy, who played "Albina" (the blonde mutant) in Beneath the Planet of the Apes. (minor spoiler) Aside from Roddy McDowell, she is the only other person to be in 4 of the 5 movies as different characters.
27:05 - Ollie.... the movie is rated "G", did you really expect to see some ape poontang?

    • @BEBruns
      @BEBruns 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@IggyStardust1967 The continuity error involving the dates actually goes back to Beneath the POTA. And yeah, back then people weren’t able to watch movies over and over again after they came out. Planet of the Apes wasn’t even shown on television until after the fifth movie had been released. You might also notice that they retconned the origin of the rise of the apes with each movie. For instance, in the first movie, the fact that humans were the dominant species is a deep, dark secret. In Escape, Cornelius claims the ape rebellion was celebrated in their time.

@@BEBruns Apologies, I thought I had mentioned the "Beneath" part of that year discrepancy. Re-reading it, I did not. So that's on me. (But... how DARE you point out something I screwed up on! 😛😁🤣🤣)
Also, you're 100% correct about the "rise" of the apes as the dominant species. I was going to mention that when Ollie does "Conquest", because "spoilers", you know. 😉
Also, we should try to get him to watch the "Project Icarus" short that was released prior to the original Apes movie as part of the "promotional" stuff. Also, I wonder if we can get him to watch "Behind the Planet of the Apes", as well. There's a more recent documentary called "Making Apes", if you haven't seen it. Well worth a watch.

The reason the "Church" representative objected so loudly was because of the position the Church took on marriage at the time. This was a time before marriage equality. Gay marriage was not a thing. In some places (in the USA) interracial marriage had only recently been "legalized". Marriage among chimpanzees? That was territory the Church wouldn't even have considered, never mind the fact that these were sentient beings with high levels of understanding and social order.

Technically this is a more accurate adaptation of the original novel. Ape society was more modern, the main human character was treated like a celebrity until he had to go on the run when it turned out his female companion was pregnant.
It’s been suggested Milo was killed off early because his actor Sal Mineo suffered panic attacks from the clautrophobic make up he was brand new to and wanted to be written out. Although apparently a script written before his casting did have the early death scene
Hasslein was vaguely mentioned in the first two movies. It was his theory of time dilation they were testing out
That guy was upset at them being married because he’s a priest. Legally married animals?! Blasphemy!
“The movie can’t just drop something like that so casually” Try watching the trailer. Old trailers basically used to gove away the whole movie 😂
This may have been the earliest, if not one of the earliest, instances of a piece of media having the baby Hitler suggestion
Oh my god! Someone shot that orderly at the exact same time Cornelius attacked him! 😂
Yeah, Stevie’s actress Natalie Trundy is in all the sequels probably beacause she was the wife of producer Arthur P Jacobs. She played the lead female mutant Albina in Beneath.
Yup, a baby gets shot in this movie! Ain’t that some shit?!
This is one of the fan favorites of the sequels. It seems it is for most people
Milo is gonna be named differently in the next film. They don’t explain why, though presumably because it connects back to his namesake Dr Milo, which would give him away as the true child of Zira and Cornelius
Can’t wait for your reactions to the next two, especially Conquest

Hey, glad to see that you watched the third movie. This is a stepping stone movie and very important to show us how the apes were able to come/go back in time. And with the baby going on to live is the most important scene. The budget for this movie is probably the lowest of them all. There is only three apes so the make-up budget was extremely low. Also, it took place in modern day so there was no money spent on lavish primitive ape village sets and such. Also, they were able to use the original spaceship so there was no cost there either. This movie "series" is not really meant to be an action theme but a mentally stimulating SCI-FI series. You will enjoy the next two movies and I look forward to your reaction. Thanks for watching these movies.

My memory is in several respects this is closer to the original Pierre Boulle novel than any of the adaptations, I mean if you switch the species. In the book a Frenchman lands on a space age civilization run by apes and gains some celebrity. He impregnates fellow human Nova and has to escape by space ship. It has a bit more of a darkly humorous tone, as this movie has at points, then most adaptations.
Granted being closer is a bit of a mixed bag. "Planet of the Apes" is an odd novel in that it's been adapted like a dozen times but has never had a close adaptation to my knowledge. And there is some reason for that. On balance I'd say the Heston film, and maybe even the more modern Serkis film which I actually don't like as much, kind of work better than the book. The book's explanation for things feels a bit weirder or more implausible and there's a certain distance to the story which I didn't precisely mind but might be distracting in film. Still I do wish some version would keep the idea you have to learn the ape, or human in this case, language. "Rise", the Serkis one, I guess does a little but the process of learning a language isn't as much a thing. And also I kind of wish one would have the human be French.
On watching your reaction I realize they may have made a fairly big change. In the original movie the idea humans were ever intelligent was kept secret. Although this is a reaction so maybe Cornelius and Zira say they got a hold of "secret scrolls" they discusses what really happened with humans but I missed that.
