Hi Maria , what a great show, I just went to Cape Cod Orchid show, but we had Blizzard so show wasn't as great as usual. I could not belive my eyes , how huge Vanda Orchid was.

Great advice! I go crazy when I see orchids anyways, so it may be best to go on the last day so I wouldn't spend so much. Lol I do have a few on my o.w.l so I'll be keeping an eye on those. Can't wait!
+eandyen77 I AM EXCITED FOR YOU TOO!!! I remember going to my first orchid show...I was so overwhelmed...It was so much to take in!! SO MANY ORCHIDS...and I wanted them ALL!!! LOL! ...PS another suggestion...some people bring along bags or rolling carriers/baskets that they can roll around and bring with them...so they can still have their hands free to grab, carry, or fight off other orchid shoppers! LOL!!!

LOL! ...and the hubbys...what do they know about orchids any how!!! LOL! I'm just thankful mine doesn't give me too much hassle...an occasion rolling of the eyes every so now and again...and of course the big sigh of frustration the third time I make my rounds...you know...just to make sure I didn't miss anything on the fist two rounds...LOL! ...but I am happy he is able to tolerate my orchid binges! PS ...after watching my footage of the orchid show...I kept kicking myself for not getting certain orchids...I actually didn't even see them while I was there at the show only after reviewing footage...thank goodness that there is always a next time...I will be shopping with a vengeance...LOL!!! :)

They actually have people at the show that do all of the inspections on your orchids and provide you all documentation to clear your orchids for travel...of course their is a fee for the inspections and documentation but indeed it is a possibility they they travel home with you. There were many people from all over the world that traveled and did just that.

YES INDEED YOU SHOULD!!! It us quite an awesome show...and from what I heard and seen...some of the most affordable prices and is why many travel to get to these shows because the savings are unbeatable! ...and I'm not sure how it works...but many travel by plane and check their orchids in as cargo...especially those that don't want to deal with the crazy shipping costs. It is one of the best orchid experiences if I do say so myself! Hoping you do make it a point to attend....you won't be disappointed! :)

Cesar Alejo Here in Florida there are many orchid growers, collectors and vendors so there is quite a demand for these shows which means they have many different shows going on in Florida all throughout the year...great for the vendors and buyers...everybody wins. ...I think I've seen a couple of orchid shows in the Philippines on youtube...maybe not in your area but I'm sure they have some there too. I do hope you get a chance to go...it is so much fun! :)
Aaaah, it was so great. I was even surprised when the video ended, for me it seemed like it was just 2 minuties lol :D But im sooo jealous, our show doesnt even diserve "show" name compared with that. By the way, I saw the note about your uploaded video in the morning before i went to classes and i have to say, no diseases or injuries got my attention today, i was like sitting on hot ashes the whole day :D About plants, i just yesterday told one friend that im so sad that we in EU dont have much variety in catasetums (I have seen actually one, the one i have) and now seeing those catasetums i almost fainted :D
HA HA HA!!!! Nothing could get your attention...like a pit bull with its vice grip!!! OH MY I DO BELIEVE YOU ARE JUST AS MUCH AS AN ADDICT AS I AM!!! Ha ha ha! ....and I actually did not include all the footage...I had to keep the video down to a digestible size...because it was already at 22 minutes...but you are not the only one that stated it seemed too short...LOL...TOO FUNNY!!! It think it was the orchids that had us all in a hypnotic trance!!! LOL!!! ...and yes the catasetums were outrageous...and starting at $15...not a shabby deal at all...and although I am not a very big datasets fan...I managed to walk away with two of them...now how did that get there! ...again I blame it on the orchid's magnetic hypnotized effect...at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! LOL!! I will be posting my orchid haul from this show so indeed stay tuned! :)
+Diego Pineda YES PLEASE GO TO ONE!!! You will not regret it...and once you go to one...you will want to go to all of them! LOL! ...but I will have to say they have so many varieties of orchids from all over the world and you get to meet these vendors in person and get some first hand knowledge from them...and also you will find some insane bargains...I could not believe some of the prices I was seeing...deals that were a fraction of the cost outside of the orchid show...so it is definitely well worth it to check it out! ...and to be honest with you I seen some incredible deals at this show that I have never seen anywhere else! Indeed it was an orchid fantasy and a an orchid dream come true! :)
It would be a dream to go to one of them lol! I would just have to find some in California, but nonetheless, its in my bucket list! There were so many orchids in your video that caught my eye, particularly the blue Vanda's, and the lavender cattleya.
I think California holds one of the biggest orchid shows. I know Bauo Tran had made a video on it...you should definately make sure you check them out...and yes The Cattleyas and Vandas really stole the show! They had some top of the line specimens! I really do hope you get to experience an orchid show soon...please make it a point...and don't wait too long! :)

I know if I go to one of those shows I wont be able to contain myself, or my debit card lol. I'm mostly a phalaenopsis person, but those big blue vandas and lavender cattleyas are so tempting; I know I will end up walking out with a Vanda in one hand, and a cattleya and phaleanopsis in the other! lol.

+John Benedict YES I BELIEVE IT...I seen people buying them up by the cartful! It was vanda madness!!! ...and you do know that I did get my share too! LOL! Have you ever gone to this particular show...I could not believe some of the deals that I was seeing...deals that I haven't seen anywhere else...they actually had huge vandas, full grown and blooming size selling for $10.00...is that not crazy...and the HUGE MOKARAS that stood about 3 feet tall or taller for $20.00...I also seen some nice sized cologyne panduratas, species orchids and AOS Awarded Catesetums at $15.00...is that not crazy or what?! ...and of course you know that on Sunday they were selling orchids at up to 50%...even their sample plants. I am so glad that I went and will make it a point to be an annual visitor! It was so much fun!
PictureMaria1 Though I have not been to that show, I have been to others where there were 30+ orchid stalls set up. Usually, most everything is sold on the last day at reduced prices when bulk buyers show up, but nothing like being there early on and having a wider choice. Glad to see you had a nice time and met a lot of folks from around the world... :)
I think i cannot come to an orchid show or i can come without my wallet because i want to take all of them home.Thank you for showing it to us Maria. that vanda that won the show, we have a native vanda from the Philippines called waling waling which is pure purple or dark violet and the flowers are huge.

I do not have a waling waling here it is so hard to get it when I was in the Philippines it is so expensive and it is hard to find.I think if you google it you can have an idea how it looks.
Yes I know all about them...they are also called the vanda sandriana here...I have a cross of one...but not a species yet...I like the alba form best and will have to get one soon...you can often times find them on ebay or at local orchid nurseries that specialize in vandas.

Now, I wish I could have let you known sooner but it was honestly a spur of the moment thing, with us being in winter haven for an event and I had convinced my mom to take us. WOW it was such an amazing experience and I am happy to announce that I am the proud owner of a Dendrobium Nobile Species (or a springbird)IDK it was mixed up, and a Dendrobium Thyrsiflorum! Oh the greenhouse was wonderful and Mrs. Ritters was so kind to me ( I told her I knew you) and she was very nice to show me around her facility. I only spent about an hour as I was being rushed but I enjoyed every second. I look forward to going there with you sometime and its almost the Orchid show WOOOO!

Ah yes the vandas had long roots that hit my face every once in a while (i didnt mind) and there was a monster cattleya which I really wanted but I didnt ask for the price :( They had such a huge variety and even now there are orchids in bloom. Sooo excited for the show!!! Only 2 weeks and 1/2 day to go!

Hi Maria! What a nice video! I have a problem with my phalaenopsis orchid:( First the roots were rotting so I cut all of those away the I left it in some dampen moss so I thought it was doing good then I cut away the last dead part of the stem the I found out it was completely rotten and black and is heading to the last good air roots! +David Henderson The good news is there appears to be two good roots at the top and that is enough to sustain this phal. What I would do is sanitize the entire plant with peroxide or gold colored listerine (full strength) and ensure that leaves and center dry out. Cut off all rotted area until it is completely clear and you only have healthy plant material. It is okay if you have to cut the base of the phal just as long as you keep the two healthy roots near the top intact. Make sure that you put cinnamon on the wound so that it will dry out. I would not put this back into media until it is fully healed...I would give it at least two weeks. I would mist this orchid with water as much as possible during the day allowing dry time to the roots. Phals are ver resilient and should bounce back. I am wishing you lots of luck...and please keep me informed on the recovery process.

Great advice! I go crazy when I see orchids anyways, so it may be best to go on the last day so I wouldn't spend so much. Lol I do have a few on my o.w.l so I'll be keeping an eye on those. Can't wait!

...PS another suggestion...some people bring along bags or rolling carriers/baskets that they can roll around and bring with them...so they can still have their hands free to grab, carry, or fight off other orchid shoppers! LOL!!!

LOL! ...and the hubbys...what do they know about orchids any how!!! LOL! I'm just thankful mine doesn't give me too much hassle...an occasion rolling of the eyes every so now and again...and of course the big sigh of frustration the third time I make my rounds...you know...just to make sure I didn't miss anything on the fist two rounds...LOL! ...but I am happy he is able to tolerate my orchid binges!
PS ...after watching my footage of the orchid show...I kept kicking myself for not getting certain orchids...I actually didn't even see them while I was there at the show only after reviewing footage...thank goodness that there is always a next time...I will be shopping with a vengeance...LOL!!! :)

They actually have people at the show that do all of the inspections on your orchids and provide you all documentation to clear your orchids for travel...of course their is a fee for the inspections and documentation but indeed it is a possibility they they travel home with you. There were many people from all over the world that traveled and did just that.

YES INDEED YOU SHOULD!!! It us quite an awesome show...and from what I heard and seen...some of the most affordable prices and is why many travel to get to these shows because the savings are unbeatable! ...and I'm not sure how it works...but many travel by plane and check their orchids in as cargo...especially those that don't want to deal with the crazy shipping costs. It is one of the best orchid experiences if I do say so myself! Hoping you do make it a point to attend....you won't be disappointed! :)

Cesar Alejo Here in Florida there are many orchid growers, collectors and vendors so there is quite a demand for these shows which means they have many different shows going on in Florida all throughout the year...great for the vendors and buyers...everybody wins. ...I think I've seen a couple of orchid shows in the Philippines on youtube...maybe not in your area but I'm sure they have some there too. I do hope you get a chance to go...it is so much fun! :)
Aaaah, it was so great. I was even surprised when the video ended, for me it seemed like it was just 2 minuties lol :D But im sooo jealous, our show doesnt even diserve "show" name compared with that.
By the way, I saw the note about your uploaded video in the morning before i went to classes and i have to say, no diseases or injuries got my attention today, i was like sitting on hot ashes the whole day :D
About plants, i just yesterday told one friend that im so sad that we in EU dont have much variety in catasetums (I have seen actually one, the one i have) and now seeing those catasetums i almost fainted :D
HA HA HA!!!! Nothing could get your attention...like a pit bull with its vice grip!!! OH MY I DO BELIEVE YOU ARE JUST AS MUCH AS AN ADDICT AS I AM!!! Ha ha ha! ....and I actually did not include all the footage...I had to keep the video down to a digestible size...because it was already at 22 minutes...but you are not the only one that stated it seemed too short...LOL...TOO FUNNY!!! It think it was the orchids that had us all in a hypnotic trance!!! LOL!!! ...and yes the catasetums were outrageous...and starting at $15...not a shabby deal at all...and although I am not a very big datasets fan...I managed to walk away with two of them...now how did that get there! ...again I blame it on the orchid's magnetic hypnotized effect...at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! LOL!! I will be posting my orchid haul from this show so indeed stay tuned! :)

+Diego Pineda YES PLEASE GO TO ONE!!! You will not regret it...and once you go to one...you will want to go to all of them! LOL! ...but I will have to say they have so many varieties of orchids from all over the world and you get to meet these vendors in person and get some first hand knowledge from them...and also you will find some insane bargains...I could not believe some of the prices I was seeing...deals that were a fraction of the cost outside of the orchid show...so it is definitely well worth it to check it out! ...and to be honest with you I seen some incredible deals at this show that I have never seen anywhere else! Indeed it was an orchid fantasy and a an orchid dream come true! :)
It would be a dream to go to one of them lol! I would just have to find some in California, but nonetheless, its in my bucket list! There were so many orchids in your video that caught my eye, particularly the blue Vanda's, and the lavender cattleya.
I think California holds one of the biggest orchid shows. I know Bauo Tran had made a video on it...you should definately make sure you check them out...and yes The Cattleyas and Vandas really stole the show! They had some top of the line specimens! I really do hope you get to experience an orchid show soon...please make it a point...and don't wait too long! :)

I know if I go to one of those shows I wont be able to contain myself, or my debit card lol. I'm mostly a phalaenopsis person, but those big blue vandas and lavender cattleyas are so tempting; I know I will end up walking out with a Vanda in one hand, and a cattleya and phaleanopsis in the other! lol.

+John Benedict YES I BELIEVE IT...I seen people buying them up by the cartful! It was vanda madness!!! ...and you do know that I did get my share too! LOL! Have you ever gone to this particular show...I could not believe some of the deals that I was seeing...deals that I haven't seen anywhere else...they actually had huge vandas, full grown and blooming size selling for $10.00...is that not crazy...and the HUGE MOKARAS that stood about 3 feet tall or taller for $20.00...I also seen some nice sized cologyne panduratas, species orchids and AOS Awarded Catesetums at $15.00...is that not crazy or what?! ...and of course you know that on Sunday they were selling orchids at up to 50%...even their sample plants. I am so glad that I went and will make it a point to be an annual visitor! It was so much fun!
PictureMaria1 Though I have not been to that show, I have been to others where there were 30+ orchid stalls set up. Usually, most everything is sold on the last day at reduced prices when bulk buyers show up, but nothing like being there early on and having a wider choice. Glad to see you had a nice time and met a lot of folks from around the world... :)

I do not have a waling waling here it is so hard to get it when I was in the Philippines it is so expensive and it is hard to find.I think if you google it you can have an idea how it looks.
Yes I know all about them...they are also called the vanda sandriana here...I have a cross of one...but not a species yet...I like the alba form best and will have to get one soon...you can often times find them on ebay or at local orchid nurseries that specialize in vandas.

Now, I wish I could have let you known sooner but it was honestly a spur of the moment thing, with us being in winter haven for an event and I had convinced my mom to take us. WOW it was such an amazing experience and I am happy to announce that I am the proud owner of a Dendrobium Nobile Species (or a springbird)IDK it was mixed up, and a Dendrobium Thyrsiflorum! Oh the greenhouse was wonderful and Mrs. Ritters was so kind to me ( I told her I knew you) and she was very nice to show me around her facility. I only spent about an hour as I was being rushed but I enjoyed every second. I look forward to going there with you sometime and its almost the Orchid show WOOOO!

I love going there because of the orchid jungle...but also because of the knowledge and the passion they have for orchids. Ah yes the vandas had long roots that hit my face every once in a while (i didnt mind) and there was a monster cattleya which I really wanted but I didnt ask for the price :( They had such a huge variety and even now there are orchids in bloom. orchid 5 orchid cactus cuttings
Hi Maria! What a nice video! I have a problem with my phalaenopsis orchid:(
First the roots were rotting so I cut all of those away the I left it in some dampen moss so I thought it was doing good then I cut away the last dead part of the stem the I found out it was completely rotten and black and is heading to the last good air roots! +David Henderson The good news is there appears to be two good roots at the top and that is enough to sustain this phal. What I would do is sanitize the entire plant with peroxide or gold colored listerine (full strength) and ensure that leaves and center dry out. Cut off all rotted area until it is completely clear and you only have healthy plant material. It is okay if you have to cut the base of the phal just as long as you keep the two healthy roots near the top intact. Make sure that you put cinnamon on the wound so that it will dry out. I would not put this back into media until it is fully healed...I would give it at least two weeks. I would mist this orchid with water as much as possible during the day allowing dry time to the roots. Phals are ver resilient and should bounce back. I am wishing you lots of luck...and please keep me informed on the recovery process.
+PictureMaria1 okay thank you for the advice! But the rotted part started to climb above the good roots so the roots are in the rotted area:( I don't know if you the roots will be saved
