For one, if they get scratched/bent/dirty/etc., it hurts less to dispose of them for people who like to keep their possessions to stay in mint condition.

I think he's not talking about those kind of bottles, I think he's only talking about the one time use ones (e.g. like a tea bottle, or mineral water)
