Never a dull watch at LCSP. Clear explanations and demonstrations, short theory relative to the video. I pick up something new every time I watch another video. Cheers Tom
This is incredible and many many thanks! My key is Eb and progression is G, Bb, C, Eb in some kind of order. My teacher did an improv for me to analyze and WRITE out. I videoed just to get the sound. Blue Note app very helpful in figuring the pitches. Now trying to add arpeggios and stuff. For a gal that got so far without ever writing anything down, argh!! I think it should be a part of every beginner's lessons!
Very timely as my teacher has just given me the task of composing a little song! I had the chord progression but was at a bit of a loss of where to go from there! Thank you!
Tom didn’t « show » how to be creative ! As far as I am concerned, he has taught me what I have searched for years in a matter of a moment . Thanh you !
using the analogy of cooking was super helpful as I know how to improvise in the kitchen! And give myself no grace...up till now... on the piano. Thank you Tom. 🎹🎂
You have helped me understand a composition I am learning, "Laurence of Arabia", arranged by Philip Keveren. Thank you for these explanations and examples!
That was incredible. Please do more lessons like this.I think I like to end on f minor, but that can change depending on my mood or what I'm going for. Awesome video 😎💛💛🤟
Thank you for this interesting and inspiring lesson ! I do like the key of F Minor very much too and have composed my first instrumental song in Fm. I’ve recorded myself on the piano and created the song in Logic Pro : th-cam.com/video/vwKSs2z5XyQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vyQUP4DhRaBj2Yca
@@dermwestcott6130 thank you, it’s a pleasure you’ve enjoyed my song ! It has been uploaded to TH-cam by an online music distributor, I’ve tried to turn on the reactions but it didn’t work.
You keep spreading the joy Tom. Not just light bulbs but a swath of neuron fireworks as things slot into place. I love the build up from the basic and immediately doable finishing with a lovely indication of what is possible. Fabulous.😀🙏🎶

Great lesson, brilliant teacher. Thank you for sharing your insight into the secrets of composition with all of us.
Liked the switch to the major especially Bb major

Thank you very much. Very interesting video!! Soon I will try to follow your suggestions and I'll say the risults. 😊🤗
Outstanding; chapeau - again!
Always enjoy your method of teaching. Now with some discipline I will put it to practice 💪
Thanks Tom. You have been instrumental in my progress beginning a year ago as a 58 year old. 🙏

Will do!
I played the baseline 1-5/1-7 in 4/4 then changed baseline to 3/4 which gave it some nervous energy.
if we want to compose a song in Fminor can song start with any note like you start with G note in this video?
Yes you don't need to start on the root note of the scale.
Cheeky bugger with the hand switcheroo. ;0)
@@Jacob-Vivimord cmon give it a try 😀
Is this considered New Age style?
and I have one question you are playing like you would play a chord in the right hand while playing the melody which is bit confusing
@vcodev108 do you mean, I am integrating the melody and chord together in the right hand? Yes?
That was so interesting. Thank you Tom.
@@contemporaryschoolofpiano yes right
@vcodev108 chord and melody integration in the right hand is quite important. Full chords in the bass (left hand) can sound muddy.
You make it look so easy. Give me 10 mins and I’ll have a couple of variations - can you just remind me where the F key is again…

Thanks for sharing your creativity with us! You've made lovely use of the F minor scale on your recording :)
I really enjoyed your composition. Maybe turn on your comments and you may be pleased with the response.

I'll check out the song.
Sounds like the same root bass notes
