I love Paris Connection. I also have Irish Gauge, Ride the Rails (both still in shrink), and want to get Iberian Gauge. Cube rail games have fascinated me lately.
I also thought of Arkwright when you mentioned that you wanted a City of the Big Shoulders with less stocks. I'm pretty bad at doing the personal money/company money separation myself, nor do I enjoy stock mechanics very much, and it turns me off these sorts of games, even though I like the theme and many of the mechanics of CoBS.
First time I played ride the rides I taught 3 non gamers. Took almost 2-1/2 hours. I did not have fun as they sucked the life out of the game by taking took long on every turn. Then I played it again tonight with 2 gamers and their 10 year old daughter. Played it in 60minutes and really enjoyed it this time.
As someone who plays 18xx, I also thought the stocks didn’t add much to CotBS, and would have preferred it as just a euro game. As it is, it made me just want to play Arkwright or an 18xx instead. Arkwright is really fun and has a cool supply/demand thing with pricing and workers, but doesn’t have the worker placement that CotBS has (which is more like Le Havre with the bonuses to your actions tiles).
Glad I'm not the only one. I always kept my distance from Arkwright since I assumed it was far too heavy for me to be interested, but now I do think I want to learn more about it.
Personally I prefer to play on BGA or also other web based platforms, like Yucata and Boiteajeux, than on TTS. The web based platforms do a lot of tedious stuff for you and they don't forget anything. Another thing I don't like on TTS is that I have to constantly change the camera point of view.
I can see the benefits, I think I'm just very used to TTS and moving the camera around now. It feels like I'm more "present" with my friends when I see their hands moving around interacting with the game instead of reading a text log explaining what they did.
Your enthusiasm for the cube rails games spurred me to pre-order Iberian Gauge, looking forward to seeing more playthroughs of these from you.
I hope you enjoy it :) I have another GG vlog full of cube rails thoughts coming out later this week. I apparently can't get enough of these games.
@@JonGetsGames I really fancy one of these, but need solo.
Really looking forward to more cube rail content! Especially the Ride the Rails playthrough.

Loved the video, really enjoying your enthusiastic journey through a new genre of board games 👍
Obfuscation, as described in your last few minutes of CoBS review, is one of my favorite characteristics of a board game.

I'd love to know how to connect with other cube rails enthusiasts online to get some of these games played.
I'd also be intrigue to learn about other ways to do this.

Huh, that's interesting to hear. I could see how RtR could go weird with people who are unfamiliar with modern games.
Jon, is there any chance to see your On Mars playthrough video?
Really need it)
There is a chance, though I think it'd only happen if the Patreon contributing sponsors requested and voted for it.
