I would also suggest to adjust the settings for split screen. Since the game is somehow demanding on its own when playing solo and by having additional player it may cause more resource requirements of your pc. Tweaks like capping FPS and lowering the cap a bit may help

Thanks for the guide! Been having issues with the companion groupings after loading a save with local co-op.. Assigning a companion to the second player was simply not working (all the grouping options were greyed out for player two), despite player two having been the one to pick them up before we quit earlier. We figured out a workaround where you can go to camp, have player one dismiss the companion they want to transfer from the party, and then have player two talk to them to bring them back in. I hope this issue is fixed at some point, as it would be a bit tedious and impact immersion to have to do this on every startup.
This is insane dude as I am having the exact same issue with my wife. We should mention it to the devs as it really needs to be patched. The funny part is someone asked me the same question and I told them I thought it must be a bug and my wife and I discovered the exact same solution as you! Still it’s a real pain and I hope it gets patched promptly. @@David-iw6sn I had to put it in windowed mode at a smaller resolution than carefully drag it to one corner then across both screens. You have to get your mouse out of the game a few times cause the latest update made that a pain in the butt
The controllers scheme isn´t a game problem. It depends on steam input configuration. If the game has native support, then turn off steam input for it and that should work.

Even the developers themselves seem to not really show it off. Will you be posting just straight up gameplay of it? Would love to just see what it's like moment to moment. Also how do cutscenes work? I assume it just stops the whole game and both players have to watch it?
Hey 👋 there! I can definitely post some gameplay up, so the way cutscenes work is that you can literally be watching separate cutscenes at the same time or you can “listen” to your partner at which point your screen goes from split to full screen and they make choices while you watch in essence . The split screen works well however I will say the controls take longer to get used to vs mouse and keyboard and you need a large screen as it can be a bit disorienting if you have a normal sizes monitor. But overall it’s an absolutely fantastic experience! I’d highly recommend it. If you liked this guide I’m considering putting up my wife and I full gameplay however I’m worried it won’t be engaging as most of my let’s plays never took off. I’d also recommend you take a look at my community posts, I’m asking for feedback on my next video and I’d love your help. In steam there’s an enable PlayStation controller support option in the controller options. Not sure if that changes anything I just know I was playing NBA 2k with a PS5 controller and it was showing Xbox buttons until one day I messed with something in the steam controller settings

Sony can be pretty strict with their trademarks. I don't think I've seen any PC game have ps button prompts as an option because of that (obviously with the exception of Playstation published games like God of war). You will probably just have to find a mod for ps buttons.
Actually it was my fault, you just need to turn off steam input and the game has native PS5 button prompts! So it was super easy to fix. So you should have two and two but this bug is common. Here is what to do, Make the player with 3 characters drop off the extra at camp, tel them to stay behind for a while. Next take the player with one character and go to camp and ask that character to join the party. I know there should be a similar way but if using LT and the party assignment there doesn’t work then the method I’ve outline will for sure. @@ThatAnxiousGamer I haven't tested it wireless yet. There's quite a few games that works for, but your mileage may vary. Some work wireless, whereas some require to be connected via cable. Diablo IV for example only gives me Xbox layout unless I have it plugged in.

Quick question so does the second player have to make a brand new character everytime they join or does the game keep that character as a separate save and do mods work in split screen
They don’t have too every single time, it saves the character you make in a special magic drawer (really) and then when you play again you can pull them out. It sounds weird but it basically functions to save the characters between play sessions. Mods will most definitely work in multiplayer but only if all party members have them, and they disable achievements earning by default so just letting you know that if it is important to you. I’m currently making new guides beating the game on honor mode (hardest difficulty), so you may be interested in that. 💯❤️❤️ Hope this helped you friend!
I’m playing split screen and a deal breaker issue is not being able to see total camp supply number like you can with the single player UI. Do you have that issue too, and do you know any workarounds? Want to know total number to optimize my long rests but it’s infeasible to count it manually every time :(
There is an auto select button, so you mean so you can select 40/40 and not waste? I believe it’s the square button on a PS5 controller. It auto selects food 🥘 so you don’t waste resources. So a cutscene plays on the side of the screen the person who started it is in. The other person can “listen in” at which point the cutscene becomes full screen . Technically you can have two cutscenes playing at once, however only one will have audio playing with the other only having subtitles. So I’m assuming you’re playing via Bluetooth. This exact same thing happened to my wife and I and it’s got something to do with the game code and 2 Bluetooth controllers in split screen. When this bug happens we plug 🔌 one in via usb and use the other In Bluetooth with no issues. Hope this helps you friend and truly hope they fix this bug!
Vulkan is primarily there for Linux and it run much better than DX11, and otherwise for AMD cards. If you're using an Nvidia card, probably avoid Vulkan for now. It's been primarily focused on AMD development since it's also primarily developed by the Linux community and Nvidia has historically difficult to work with.

What was your render resolution here and Do you recommend 4k? We played divinity original sin 2 at 1080p and the menus were a little hard to read on our 55 inch tv.
So my render resolution is normally 1440p, however that is because I travel and play on a 32 inch monitor. At home my wife and I will play on an LG OLED at 55 inches. For 32 inches 1440p looks great. On a 54 inch tv your definitely going to want to go to 4K if your pc can handle it. I plan to make a follow up guide/ review however and in it I will showcase what split screen looks like. I won’t lie my pc build is higher end I would say and I still get some frame drops and freezing at 1440p. Therefore while I would absolutely recommend 4k for any TV your mileage may vary based on your PC specs. Split screen seems to use wayyy more system resources. I think you skipped it to not spoil but how does character creator work for 2 people? Does it prompt you to make one and then the other? Or do you have to start two separate games and then join the characters together?
So yeah I didn’t want to drop too many spoilers but you can create and craft your characters together totally side by side. It’s really an awesome system because you can get input from your friend or partner and go through each step together. The main reason I didn’t go into it in this shorter video is it’s really detailed and long, my wife and I took around 45 mins to an hour creating our 2 characters. So for your question you don’t have to wait as soon as you touch both A (Or X) buttons depending on which controller you use they let you make both characters side by side. So this is a very common question and the answer is no it does not. I really wish they did include this but outside of dialogue your characters will never not be split screen UNLESS you play on a 2 monitor setup. Right after you launch the game via steam the Larian launcher will pop up. Under the white large “play” bar you will see a check mark, it has two options; DirectX 11 and Vulkan. Check DirectX 11 and push play. Really hope this helps you and let me know if it doesn’t as I can make a quick video guide for you!❤️❤️❤️
In Dvinity it was possible to have joint screen when you stand close to each other or during combat. I didn’t find if you can do that in BG3 though. Do you know if it is possible at all?
So the answer is yes and no both. If you stand near someone “talking “ you can listen and basically have the screen become one. However from a gameplay and combat setting then no I believe it’s impossible. I agree that would be an amazing setting to have!❤️❤️
@@ThatAnxiousGamer Fact that you can't merge screens like in DOS2 drive me crazy. There is even the input on D-pad down in the game settings (on settings where you see the inputs with the PS5 controller) so I hope it's just a bug

Yes, but it is a bit convoluted. You need someone else to join you when starting the playthrough and then even if they quit you can have 2 or up to 4 custom characters. Just a quick question: Is it possible to play this game in couch co-op and have the audio assigned to two different headphones? Really bugs me, that the dialog audio cuts when my partner starts a different dialog.
Not that I am aware of. I know it can be frustrating. My wife and I normally “listen” into each others dialogs to minimize this as it is kinda immersion breaking to say the least. I’m not sure what they could have done however, I guess they didn’t want two separates dialogs playing over each other and confusing people . Great video. One question I have is how do you apply ability check bonuses in split screen? For example if I my friend has Shadowheart how can they apply guidance to my character's persuasion checks? I only see the option to apply bounes for characters I control and they don't see anyway to add bonuses to my ability check.

Don't know if you played DAI but in the menu you can change Characters and create new ones and interchange between the playthrough. Basically my question is: its possible to have my own character to play solo and another one to play with my hubby? Absolutely a valid and legit question no worries friend! You can have one save to play by yourself and one save to play with your husband, you can also have two different custom creators created in one saved that are controlled by yourself or your husband too! The sky is the limit in this game 👍🏻. I also played DAI as well as the original Dragon Age Origins. If you liked that game this game will blow your mind. It’s even better. I’d suggest you look at my latest video or has all co-op mutiplayer questions answered and it includes chapters and in game footage as it’s easier to show these things sometimes then to explain them. okay, my question is does the co-op character ever get disbanded from your party? I have been stuck with my girlfriends character in my party with no option to switch her out for another party member when I am playing solo
So once you make a custom character they are like permanently in the party to the best of my knowledge. They are treated as a “main character “ if that makes sense. It’s not a dumb question at all. Unfortunately however split screen co-op caps out at 2 players. To play 3 or 4 players you’d need to use online multiplayer with each person having a pc or PS5 and a copy of the game. Do you know how to group? I play with my father and we wanna change teammates. I mean i play astorian and wanna have contron on mage but i cant change it
So currently the group feature can be bugged out. The way it's supposed to work is to hit the L2 button and there you should be able to group players for player 1 and 2. However, sometimes you will be unable to do so. Player 1 will have characters while player 2 will have only their custom character. However, there is a fix! Do this, let's say you want to have gale. Let your father leave Gale in camp and talk to them(the person who has control at that time) and tell them to stay there. Then you talk to Gale and ask him to join your party. Try clicking in on the right/ left thumb stick. You may be in turn based mode because that happened to me. Also try putting steam into big picture mode before launching the game. Let me know if this helps and if not I’ll try to jump on discord and help you out bro!
Unfortunately the feature your speaking of was in Divinity Original Sin 2 but did not come over to Baldur’s Gate 3. There is no way to merge the screens outside of dialogue.
How do you load the save? For new game, you activated both controllers. But when do I activate the second controller if I'm loading an existing coop splitscreen savegame? Could one of us keep playing alone theoretically or is it always coop?
So what you do the next time you play is first turn on both controllers. Then have played one load the game’s save. At this point press X on the PS5 or A on the Xbox controller. I would also suggest to adjust the settings for split screen. Since the game is somehow demanding on its own when playing solo and by having additional player it may cause more resource requirements of your pc. Tweaks like capping FPS and lowering the cap a bit may help

Thanks for the guide! Been having issues with the companion groupings after loading a save with local co-op.. Assigning a companion to the second player was simply not working (all the grouping options were greyed out for player two), despite player two having been the one to pick them up before we quit earlier. We figured out a workaround where you can go to camp, have player one dismiss the companion they want to transfer from the party, and then have player two talk to them to bring them back in. I hope this issue is fixed at some point, as it would be a bit tedious and impact immersion to have to do this on every startup.
This is insane dude as I am having the exact same issue with my wife. We should mention it to the devs as it really needs to be patched. The funny part is someone asked me the same question and I told them I thought it must be a bug and my wife and I discovered the exact same solution as you! Still it’s a real pain and I hope it gets patched promptly. I encourage you to vote in my community poll for which build order you’d like to see on my channel first and hope to see you subscribed and joining my small community friend. @@David-iw6sn I had to put it in windowed mode at a smaller resolution than carefully drag it to one corner then across both screens. You have to get your mouse out of the game a few times cause the latest update made that a pain in the butt
The controllers scheme isn´t a game problem. It depends on steam input configuration. If the game has native support, then turn off steam input for it and that should work.

Even the developers themselves seem to not really show it off. Will you be posting just straight up gameplay of it? Would love to just see what it's like moment to moment. Also how do cutscenes work? I assume it just stops the whole game and both players have to watch it?
Hey 👋 there! I can definitely post some gameplay up, so the way cutscenes work is that you can literally be watching separate cutscenes at the same time or you can “listen” to your partner at which point your screen goes from split to full screen and they make choices while you watch in essence . The split screen works well however I will say the controls take longer to get used to vs mouse and keyboard and you need a large screen as it can be a bit disorienting if you have a normal sizes monitor. But overall it’s an absolutely fantastic experience! I’d highly recommend it. If you liked this guide I’m considering putting up my wife and I full gameplay however I’m worried it won’t be engaging as most of my let’s plays never took off. I’d also recommend you take a look at my community posts, I’m asking for feedback on my next video and I’d love your help. Maybe cut out the non-action sections to speed up gameplay and flow a bit. Or perhaps a long review style format specifically focused on split screen gameplay.

In steam there’s an enable PlayStation controller support option in the controller options. Not sure if that changes anything I just know I was playing NBA 2k with a PS5 controller and it was showing Xbox buttons until one day I messed with something in the steam controller settings

Sony can be pretty strict with their trademarks. I don't think I've seen any PC game have ps button prompts as an option because of that (obviously with the exception of Playstation published games like God of war). You will probably just have to find a mod for ps buttons.
Actually it was my fault, you just need to turn off steam input and the game has native PS5 button prompts! So it was super easy to fix.

We're playing couch coop on ps5 and we just can't figure out how to assign characters to players. He's got 3, I've got 1.....
So you should have two and two but this bug is common. Here is what to do,
Make the player with 3 characters drop off the extra at camp, tel them to stay behind for a while. Next take the player with one character and go to camp and ask that character to join the party. I know there should be a similar way but if using LT and the party assignment there doesn’t work then the method I’ve outline will for sure. I disabled Steam Input in the controller settings on Steam and the game now shows the Playstation buttons instead of Xbox.

@@ThatAnxiousGamer I haven't tested it wireless yet. There's quite a few games that works for, but your mileage may vary. Some work wireless, whereas some require to be connected via cable. Diablo IV for example only gives me Xbox layout unless I have it plugged in.

My button prompts are for ps5 controller, you need to disable "steam input" from steam settings.

Quick question so does the second player have to make a brand new character everytime they join or does the game keep that character as a separate save and do mods work in split screen
They don’t have too every single time, it saves the character you make in a special magic drawer (really) and then when you play again you can pull them out. It sounds weird but it basically functions to save the characters between play sessions. Mods will most definitely work in multiplayer but only if all party members have them, and they disable achievements earning by default so just letting you know that if it is important to you. I’m currently making new guides beating the game on honor mode (hardest difficulty), so you may be interested in that. 💯❤️❤️

I’m playing split screen and a deal breaker issue is not being able to see total camp supply number like you can with the single player UI. Do you have that issue too, and do you know any workarounds? Want to know total number to optimize my long rests but it’s infeasible to count it manually every time :(
There is an auto select button, so you mean so you can select 40/40 and not waste? I believe it’s the square button on a PS5 controller. It auto selects food 🥘 so you don’t waste resources.

That’s actually a great question. I believe the answer is no but I’ve never tested it. I’ll try to test it out and report back ASAP.

So a cutscene plays on the side of the screen the person who started it is in. The other person can “listen in” at which point the cutscene becomes full screen . Technically you can have two cutscenes playing at once, however only one will have audio playing with the other only having subtitles. Hey my secondary controller (the wife) keep’s disconnecting every time I enter a conversation, any solutions?
So I’m assuming you’re playing via Bluetooth. This exact same thing happened to my wife and I and it’s got something to do with the game code and 2 Bluetooth controllers in split screen. When this bug happens we plug 🔌 one in via usb and use the other In Bluetooth with no issues. Hope this helps you friend and truly hope they fix this bug!
Vulkan is primarily there for Linux and it run much better than DX11, and otherwise for AMD cards. If you're using an Nvidia card, probably avoid Vulkan for now. It's been primarily focused on AMD development since it's also primarily developed by the Linux community and Nvidia has historically difficult to work with.

What was your render resolution here and Do you recommend 4k? We played divinity original sin 2 at 1080p and the menus were a little hard to read on our 55 inch tv.
So my render resolution is normally 1440p, however that is because I travel and play on a 32 inch monitor. At home my wife and I will play on an LG OLED at 55 inches. For 32 inches 1440p looks great. On a 54 inch tv your definitely going to want to go to 4K if your pc can handle it. I plan to make a follow up guide/ review however and in it I will showcase what split screen looks like. I won’t lie my pc build is higher end I would say and I still get some frame drops and freezing at 1440p. Therefore while I would absolutely recommend 4k for any TV your mileage may vary based on your PC specs. Split screen seems to use wayyy more system resources.

I think you skipped it to not spoil but how does character creator work for 2 people? Does it prompt you to make one and then the other? Or do you have to start two separate games and then join the characters together?
So yeah I didn’t want to drop too many spoilers but you can create and craft your characters together totally side by side. It’s really an awesome system because you can get input from your friend or partner and go through each step together. The main reason I didn’t go into it in this shorter video is it’s really detailed and long, my wife and I took around 45 mins to an hour creating our 2 characters. So for your question you don’t have to wait as soon as you touch both A (Or X) buttons depending on which controller you use they let you make both characters side by side. Really hope to see you sub and here for my next video, I have a lot more great content coming up!

So this is a very common question and the answer is no it does not. I really wish they did include this but outside of dialogue your characters will never not be split screen UNLESS you play on a 2 monitor setup.

How do I get to Marian launcher to use directx
Right after you launch the game via steam the Larian launcher will pop up. Under the white large “play” bar you will see a check mark, it has two options; DirectX 11 and Vulkan. Check DirectX 11 and push play.

No sir.
In Dvinity it was possible to have joint screen when you stand close to each other or during combat. I didn’t find if you can do that in BG3 though. Do you know if it is possible at all?
So the answer is yes and no both. If you stand near someone “talking “ you can listen and basically have the screen become one. However from a gameplay and combat setting then no I believe it’s impossible. I agree that would be an amazing setting to have!❤️❤️

@@ThatAnxiousGamer Fact that you can't merge screens like in DOS2 drive me crazy. There is even the input on D-pad down in the game settings (on settings where you see the inputs with the PS5 controller) so I hope it's just a bug

Yes, but it is a bit convoluted. You need someone else to join you when starting the playthrough and then even if they quit you can have 2 or up to 4 custom characters. Whenever I try to press the A button it just switches the input from keyboard to controller without adding a split screen. Anyone know what to do?
Just a quick question: Is it possible to play this game in couch co-op and have the audio assigned to two different headphones? Really bugs me, that the dialog audio cuts when my partner starts a different dialog.
Not that I am aware of. I know it can be frustrating. My wife and I normally “listen” into each others dialogs to minimize this as it is kinda immersion breaking to say the least. I’m not sure what they could have done however, I guess they didn’t want two separates dialogs playing over each other and confusing people . Yes you absolutely can. You can have like 1000 saves or however many your SSD can hold. It’s great!

Great video. One question I have is how do you apply ability check bonuses in split screen? For example if I my friend has Shadowheart how can they apply guidance to my character's persuasion checks? I only see the option to apply bounes for characters I control and they don't see anyway to add bonuses to my ability check.

Sadly not, it has to be 2 controllers.
Thanks for this video, bute I want to know one thing, how local coop handles the dialogues when you chat with an npc? It keeps splitscreen or go fullscreen? And if it keeps split what happens if both players start a dialogue with different npcs as they are voiced? Do the audio go over each other?

Don't know if you played DAI but in the menu you can change Characters and create new ones and interchange between the playthrough. Basically my question is: its possible to have my own character to play solo and another one to play with my hubby? Absolutely a valid and legit question no worries friend! You can have one save to play by yourself and one save to play with your husband, you can also have two different custom creators created in one saved that are controlled by yourself or your husband too! The sky is the limit in this game 👍🏻. I also played DAI as well as the original Dragon Age Origins. If you liked that game this game will blow your mind. It’s even better. I’d suggest you look at my latest video or has all co-op mutiplayer questions answered and it includes chapters and in game footage as it’s easier to show these things sometimes then to explain them. okay, my question is does the co-op character ever get disbanded from your party? I have been stuck with my girlfriends character in my party with no option to switch her out for another party member when I am playing solo
So once you make a custom character they are like permanently in the party to the best of my knowledge. They are treated as a “main character “ if that makes sense. Hope that helps you even though I’m thinking it’s not what you were hoping for :(

It’s not a dumb question at all. Unfortunately however split screen co-op caps out at 2 players. To play 3 or 4 players you’d need to use online multiplayer with each person having a pc or PS5 and a copy of the game. Do you know how to group? I play with my father and we wanna change teammates. I mean i play astorian and wanna have contron on mage but i cant change it
So currently the group feature can be bugged out. The way it's supposed to work is to hit the L2 button and there you should be able to group players for player 1 and 2. However, sometimes you will be unable to do so. Player 1 will have characters while player 2 will have only their custom character. However, there is a fix! Do this, let's say you want to have gale. Let your father leave Gale in camp and talk to them(the person who has control at that time) and tell them to stay there. Then you talk to Gale and ask him to join your party. i cant get the game to get into "console mode" like yours. I can just move the cursor around with my controller
Try clicking in on the right/ left thumb stick. You may be in turn based mode because that happened to me. Also try putting steam into big picture mode before launching the game. Let me know if this helps and if not I’ll try to jump on discord and help you out bro!
Why screen don't merge!!?
Unfortunately the feature your speaking of was in Divinity Original Sin 2 but did not come over to Baldur’s Gate 3. There is no way to merge the screens outside of dialogue.
Sorry is possibile no splitscreen in local coop with the same Ps5?

How do you load the save? For new game, you activated both controllers. But when do I activate the second controller if I'm loading an existing coop splitscreen savegame?
Could one of us keep playing alone theoretically or is it always coop?
So what you do the next time you play is first turn on both controllers. Then have played one load the game’s save. At this point press X on the PS5 or A on the Xbox controller.
