If the spindle hole on the record is tight...insert a smooth pen into the hole and twist the pen around. Do on both sides. This expands the hole enough to give you an effortless placement on the turntable...and easy lift off 👍

Good video. The first upgrade I would recommend would be an Ortofon Blue stylus to replace the Red whenever its showing signs of wear. No need to rush into it. This whole audiophile endeavor is a marathon--not a sprint. Good luck, and enjoy your journey.

Some pretty sound advice given. A very minor point, try not to touch the belt either as oils aren't good for it as well. Project usually supply a small tool to hook the belt when changing speeds.
Also, instead of a cover for one of my turntables I just use a round vinyl sized piece of persplex to cover the record surface. You could just use an old record to stop the dust getting on your felt mat. Those felt mats can trap dust so best to get your arse in gear and get a cork one! In fact, then you could use your felt mat as the dust cover.;)

Project, Audiolab 8000a and Tannoy Mecury's your using there? Apart from the project I had a pair of the Tannoys and an 8000a back in 1988, Mk 2 S versions of the speakers stunning for the size and price, I had the Dunlop Systemdek back then and changed that for a Mantacore Mantra with a Rega RB300 arm. I only sold my Tannoys 2 yrs ago as they weren't being used much. Add a 8000p power amp and listen to the tannoys sing even better.

Yes a quick tip, I use an old crappy record that I have 2 copies of on my project turntable but not in use, acts as a perfect dust cover!

Thanks for posting your vid, I enjoyed it and very much like the sound you're getting, regardless of the mono camera microphone - - sounds like your playback equipment is very nicely matched.

Keep it up! Great curious mind and a refreshing humility! Improving gear is a treacherous web... but it seems to me that you revere vintage products. Why don't you use those brands as your starting point and see where it leads to...
Audiolab, newer model? B&W bookshelf speakers? New stylus, if you like.. but if you are content with the current set up, enjoy the music and explore more of it. Good luck with your music career, too!

A Lovely video for the beginners who are now just thinking of entering the hifi club. BUT just to counter you a little on the budget side of things, the example you gave is good eg spend equal. But the best advice i ever go given is to spend the least on the speakers for the reasons you gave, showing upstream problems but more importantly to give the speakers proper drive. This would be example split and it has always worked for me especially at the budget end where every penny counts.
say you have £1000 to spend id sped the most of source at this price point. So 500 turntable, 300 amp (with inbuilt phono stage) and 150speakers and if you want to reallocate 10% on cables.

I’m looking at getting the new Audiolab 6000A integrated amplifier for my new set up. I want it for the inbuilt ESS Sabre DAC chip and a generous 60,000uF of filter capacitance. They make really good gear for the money.

Nice setup, I have a 1980s Parasound that works perfect and sounds wonderful. I also have Conrad Johnson stuff so I know good sound. I have a vintage Pioneer SX1250 that will be in my coffin when I die:)

I think your speakers have a kind of “retro” look with the vertical lines.

Those DM2 speakers are great, get up off your ass and go get them. Speakers make such a big difference in sound quality. I must have went through 15 sets of speakers till I was finally satisfied.

In case you haven't worked it out, the only way I can do it is to physically lower the tonearm in the grove on the record.

@@Adams-mj3qz Actually, I found it out. He told me this in the 7500 subscriptions special (I think) as a new written version. But still, thanks for the advice.

The mat on your deck can't be replaced with a thicker one due to the arm not having adjustable hieght. Get a better deck I think.

I'm not hating just curious if you would/are able to distinguish the difference between vinyl or cd with those speakers
And I think it's called Hifi setup 😂😂

    • @gaza4543
      @gaza4543 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Why would there be a difference? if there is a difference it would be more because the amp is of a certain age, meaning that at the time it was still being designed with vinyl in mind, more so than digital. Ie more a of a pure analogue through and through device with different volume slopes and so on, with CD being the newer format back than, with cassette and records still being the primary sources. CD actually might not be as convincing on that setup. In regards to vintage speakers you need to give them more credit £150 speakers back in the 90s would have cost you 4-5 hundred today. And would give many so called high end speakers a run for their money today. Speakers you don't need to spend big on at all they just need to be a good fit for the room. Which counter argues his budget example a bit, properly driven (key word) "budget" speakers sound fantastic.

I do not want to be an asshole but please buy MFSL Original Master Sleeves and get rid of these paper inner sleeves.....the paper sleeves deliver paper dust to your LPs and create static that attracts even more dust, nobody wants that
