That part at 3:17 was always my favorite. That whole section really, all the way to I guess the end of the song. Cause this whole song is fucking rad.
I always preferred Blackwater Park and My Arms, Your Hearse over Still Life, (the album chronologically between those two) though “the moor” and “white cluster” get deep in there. Still Life has its moments, I just think Blackwater Park is their magnum opus, when I show people Opeth, I send them Ghost Reveries and Blackwater; to give them the over all flavor. But Leper Affinity is their seminal work in my mind. It’s a perfect song to encapsulate their sound.

I love Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries too. Watershed is very high on my list as well. There are awesome moments in all those albums. Oh and yes, the riff at 3:17 is so cool :)

The great thing about Opeth is you ask 50 fans what their favorite album is and you could very easily find all of their albums get named (of course there are some that will pop up more than others). I for one find still life to be their best album, I think it’s their most complete work, it just flows seamlessly from one incredible song to the next from start to finish (in my opinion of course). Blackwater Park has the highest peaks in the Opeth discography IMO, The Leper Affinity and Blackwater Park easily being their best combo of opening and closing songs on ANY of their albums [with the former being my favorite Opeth song period], not to mention how amazing of a song Bleak is pr how unique the moody, atmospheric The Drapery falls is, but Harvest is one of their weaker acoustic songs, and while I love how Dirge for November starts, the heavier riffs don’t do much for me. So as a whole, BWP doesn’t deliver the way Still Life does for me, but for the next person My Arms, Your Hearse might be their best work, and for another it’s Damnation, what I’ve also realized in my journey listening to Opeth is how I really fell in love with different albums at different times of my life, and depending on my emotional state can dictate which songs or albums I want to listen to. Sorry for the rambling but to put an end to this long comment, where you and I can both definitely agree is that the Leper Affinity is their best song in our minds, and I’d even go as far to say it’s one of the best compositions I’ve ever heard.

You should do the bass cover for the Grand Conjuartion by Opeth. You would love the bass in that song.
