A large one where it is shared is not countable. However, recently there seems to be places that sell small individual cakes and those can be countable :)

Well, you can leave off the articles and get countable and non-countable nouns mixed up, but you will sound strange to native speakers. Work hard and do your best :)

Usually, a babysitter comes to our home to watch a child. For school aged children, there is a service called an after school program where children can stay until their parents finish work.

hi dear Mark. But our books says that cakes are countable and they draw especially big cakes. I've problems with uncountable nouns. In my native language we don't pay
attention to them. How can I found out them easily? Please help me....

It is very confusing. Try to think about the difference between things that are easy to count and things that are difficult to count. If it is difficult to count, like liquid, very small things and a cake that can be cut into many pieces, then it is uncountable. If it's easy to count, like pencils, then it is countable.
