- This video discusses how to travel after being granted asylum. An asylee should apply for a refugee/asylee travel document on Form I-131. Asylees should not use their country's passport to travel, return to their country of persecution, or renew their country's passport.

Hi can I travel to mexico with a RTD while my i485 is still processing ?
I am a refugee and I applied for a green card i-485 and I fingerprinted, but I did not get it yet and I do not have a passport. My question is can I travel with a refugee travel document typr b? And I did not know to which address I should send my papers because there are two addresses, one for those who apply for a refugee travel document and the other for those who have an i-485 pendent.

Please reply, I just received my asylum approval last week, and now I'm going to consider options for obtaining refugee travel documents. But before my case was approved, I was in the USA for 6-7 months with an expired visa (illegally). Will these factors affect when returning to the US with a travel passport? What are the disadvantages of obtaining a travel passport?

Hello! Any problem to travel in the US with my country's passport? I didn't have any doc to travel at that point (few months ago).
It should not be an issue. I would suggest applying for a drivers license or work permit if your asylum was approved.
if i got the green card from approved asylum do i still need travel document to travel different country like Canada, mexico, UK or i can use my own home country passport to travel these country with my green card ??
I advise my clients to still use the refugee travel document as your passport comes from the country of persecution. USCIS has info here where is states that green card holders can apply for refugee travel docs: www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/travel-documents. There are different rules for going to Canada and Mexico as a green card holder. You can contact their embassies but I believe Canada will let you enter by car with only your green card and no passport (but not by plane).

She will need a refugee travel document. A re-entry permit is for green card holders who want to stay outside of the United States for a longer period of time without giving up their green card.

Here are the USCIS processing times for refugee travel document. The time is calculated from the date the application was received not the date of fingerprints. Currently they are taking about 10-11 months. egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

I applied on my own and got denied. I believe is because I checked in 1a and 1c on the application type instead of just choosing one. Hopefully I’m correct because I really want to travel soon 😭😭

She can travel on a Venezuelan passport and does not need a refugee travel document

@@sabretinsahin5189 the processing time above estimate how long it takes the entire case to process including biometrics so it is your best estimate on how long from the time USCIS received it to having a person make a decision. The travel document is mailed by USCIS. You do not receive it at the biometrics appointment.
