Please do not use superglue for this, Canon has a document that describes the correct procedure for the repair and the correct glue, the document is confidential, but may be found on the net.
Hi Janos, this may be actually a secret tip: Go for the broken 5D classic where the mirror fell off. Just like with turntables, go for the "broken" one that does not turn. 9 out of 10 times the belt is worn. In both cases, you can get a bargain :)
Hi Hugo, indeed, that's a superb suggestion! Mirror falling off a 5D classic is a pretty much sure indication that the camera is otherwise in a great shape, a steal to get... now I know this better :)
What a bad luck! I was looking to see if there's replacement mirrors for 5D classic, but found no sources. mk II mirrors seem to be found easily, but not mirrors for the classic....
Maybe if you use the camera less intensively, then this method will last for a long time. But usually, additional fasteners are installed in such cameras
My suspicion is that in case the adhesion was proper then it will last very long, even after heavy use. I think the mirror will fall off only when the adhesion was compromised, usually by trace amount of oils or other contaminants. That's why I use gloves, and prepped the surfaces with alcohol to remove these traces. The usual consensus on re-gluing the 5D classic mirror seems to be that when the gluing is successful (does not fall off next few months), then it will handle even extreme abuse and shutter counts well beyond the specified life span of the camera and be of no issue.

This was a common problem with the 5D MkI even when they were new.
Flying mirrors were a common problem with early serial 5D classics
tried it, it fell off again and shattered, so need to be a bit lucky here or have a really good glue
