Gane was supposed to be the toughest after Francis was gone, but it didn't pan out that way when Jon destroyed him, but that just makes Jon look good if anything. That's Jon for you though. Every fight he has his haters hoping he'll lose and many saying he will lose, and he wins every time. It's typical. Now that Jon dominated Gane, Gane wasn't a threat according to them. Gane was very close to beating Francis, and Jon destroyed him. The truth is is that Gane does not match up well with Jon style wise. Gane was one of the top heavyweights, but Jon matches up well with him. The nonsense and hate towards Jon will never stop. He could be 55 and still undefeated and people will be talking nonsense. Jon can retire whenever he wants and it would be just fine, although I hope he doesn't since I want to see him continue fighting. He dominated 2 different generations of fighters, and even some some from 3 generations.

Francis said publicly in an interview after his departure that the UFC had eventually offered him enough money that he was willing to forget about boxing, but the deal-breaker was that his pay would go down significantly if he lost to Jon (as if every champ's pay doesn't go down when they lose the title). Jon also asked for extra money to fight Francis and idk what ended up happening with that but he was still there waiting for them to reach a deal with Francis. Him being there waiting is why they were able to announce him vs Cyril for the vacant title in the same announcement as Francis's departure.
I don't think either of them were afraid to the point of being unwilling to fight each other, but that doesn't mean they didn't have any fears about the fight

@@Shaqsquatch That might be the case about Francis; well put. I think people use that fight not happening as leverage along with his recent injuries and "issues" to make it seem like he's holding up the division out of fear (might've been what @LarryMayvid was getting at). I still think there's a good chance Jon is the baddest dude on the planet, and I think Jon would take the fight against Tom. Francis, Alex, and Tom sort of represent the "big boy" test of being able to take true heavyweight power. It seems to be about if Jon can maintain enough control. Stipe having signed and being promised this fight is the only reason Tom v Jon isn't booked right now.

@@xxsskyyxx "if he beat Tom" Well, how about he starts by actually signing a contract to fight him first? You brought up, Francis, Sergei and Tom, all of which he should have fought, but ducked each one.
The Stipe fight was booked for Nov of 2023, Jon didn't hold up his end of the deal, so the contract is void. Tom is the interim champ, which means that's the fight Jon was supposed to come back for.
Francis was injured going into the Gane fight, but also, it's a completely different Style, as an injured Francis showed, Gane can't wrestle or grapple and what is Jones' base? Wrestling and grappling. Jones lost to Reyes, and Jan KO'd Reyes with ease, (technically, that doesn't mean much, but at the same, it does matter)
Sergei was not some random, he had earned his title shot and was skipped for Stipe, Jon didn't beat Sergei, Tom did, If the #1 contender is forced to fight other contenders because the champ wants to fight a guy coming off a loss, it's only a matter of time before they lose, it's the fight game, anything can happen. I find it funny that Jones fans think that if fighters that Jon was supposed to fight, lose, that means Jones didn't actually have to fight him, or that it means Jones won Lol.

Jon has more titles defenses than Tom has fights lol. Stop disrespecting Jon. Tom is the next hype train. I heard this same nonsense about Gane. He moves like a lightweight etc....stop!! Johnny Walker was the guy at light heavyweight then it was this guy and that guy. Heck 3 weeks ago Pereira was the guy to beat him at heavyweight. Now it's not. I can't....🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Jon is that a point, where he's fighting for legacy? At this point. He would not want to risk losing his first fight fighting a younger, much hungrier opponent.
John has been at the top, he knows there's not much oxygen there. He's strategically picking his last couple fights, as he knows he's only getting older, and newer competition is coming in.
You forget Chael, Father time is undefeated. Especially after a career-ending injury, then wanting to step in there with one of the hungriest people on the roster.
The only fight I could see him sticking around for, is against Alex Pereira. Double champ versus double champ, with one having the potential to be the world's First triple champ. He knows the kind of eyes that that would draw, and he also knows that Alex, even though he has ground game, he's still considered a one-dimensional fighter.
I think that would be a fight for the books, but I see it going about the same way as Gane vs Jones.
Stipe and Jon both ride off in the sunset, and tom Aspinall will get undisputed, and ultimately get big dogged by Jon.
    Tom VS Jon never happens.

Yet concerned doesn't equal being afraid nor equal Jon losing.
I don't believe Jones is scared of anyone, and I don't believe that Jones would lose to Ngannou, Stipe nor Aspinall or Alex
Skill for skill Jones is levels above them all, even Stipe.
