4:02 After a couple of years playing in Dance Bands with horn players, none of these Banjos (Plectrum Banjo, Mandolin Banjo, Melody Banjo/4 String Mandolin Banjo, & Tenor Banjo) weren't loud enough so adding a resonator to the back made a big difference.
4:11 The resonator made a big difference. I imagine that if the Mandolin Banjos (as well as the Melody Banjos/4 String Mandolin Banjos) had a resonator, it would work.
2:40 The Melody Banjo is a 4 String Mandolin Banjo used in Jazz. The Mandolin Banjo seems more appropriate as a "Jug Band instrument" or sometimes a Ragtime instrument.
Retrofret Vintage Guitars The resonator made a big difference for all the Banjos because it increased their volume so that they could be heard over the horns. There's a reason why Banjitars also exist because it allowed Guitarists to play with the horns.
Lots of Violinists doubled on the Mandolin because they find it easier to play thanks to the frets. A Mandolin Banjo seemed like a good fit for both Violinists and Mandolin players because it's tuned the same way, & they can play the same music.
Yes, I did enjopy the tour. I want to buy an open back because of their softer tone to strum and learn bluegrass. I suppose there are no hard and fast rules, but what do you think?
2:04 Very loud Hybrid instrument, & they're still made today. It's louder than the 4 String Variant (Melody Banjo) so it'll cut through the horns more.
A good video. You omitted the banjulele, the 6-string guitar-banjo, the 12-string banjo, the long-necked banjo, the zither banjo, and the 5-string banjo with an additional bass string. I guess the next video will have to be 7 minutes. :)

I love that 4 string fifth tuned melody banjo. That, and the banjolele make a good little banjo duo.
It's a 4 String Mandolin Banjo Basically.
2:47 The 4 String Mandolin Banjo is pretty loud.
2:46 The 4 String Banjo-Mandolin is just loud as heck.

There's also the Banjitar which was actually used in Jazz cause it goes way back before we had Amplification.
Vega Banjos made both types. The Mandolin Banjo seemed great as a Jug Band instrument & it still is.
How many frets the plectrum banjo has please? Second he plays in the video. It sounds really well. Thanks a lot
Really interesting, thanks.

The Banjitar is a 6 String Banjo tuned like a Guitar

Lots of players use the Mandolin-Banjo for Solo pieces.

He didn't even realize that there are more types of Banjos than this.
You forgot the origins of the banjo.
Should be titled. 'White Washed History of the Banjo"
The resonator made a big difference because Banjo players were able to be heard more easily.
This is an awesome demonstration- but I as a teacher I can't show this in my classroom room because you said pain in the a** Can you re-tape??
Ass is a bad word? Hmmm
@@michaelbauers8800 Pain in the Neck.
You're missing the traditional gourd Banjo.

Sir, I cannot listen to your words because the mic'd banjo is super loud vs your statements.
