SA does not mine oil so there is no way that our government can control fuel prices. Even countries with stronger economy and that mines oil & gas are not spared, USA included. As a country we need long term solutions that works not just shut down. How does it help & what do you expect government to do? The long term solution is for our government to subsidize on rail transportation, increase rail transportation, increase electric public buses and build more power stations. But this does not come cheap we are looking at a budget of $ trillions or several $ billions that will be needed. We also need to invest in Tesla cars, Elon Mask is a SA, why can’t we convince him to invest more in SA.

SA under sanctions still traded with all western countries like US, Canada, France, Israel etc. The western countries were never supporting a black majority rule, during sanctions many mega projects were done by western countries. If sanctions were real SA wouldn’t have lasted for 5 years. I can list to you 10 mega projects that was build by western countries during the sanctions era. However, I am not denying the fact that SA was more stable and more economic viable during apatheid, no doubt about it.
