I was at camp howze from 79-81.. re-enlisted for 6 years at camp warrior base. Part of me, is still there.. the best and worst of my life! I will never forget!! C co 1/31 infantry (m)..
Thanks for the memories. I spent 2 summers on the DMZ operating my dozer 1967-1969. I was an engineer but the 2nd Infantry Division gave me a certificate saying I was an Imjin River Scout.
Imjin Scout here (1986). The badge is awarded in recognition of 90 days inside the DMZ - regardless of MOS. I think some people believe the Imjin Scout Badge is similar to a CIB that is exclusive to Infantry. That's not the case. Our medics and forward controllers also patrolled with us grunts in the DMZ, and they were awarded the Imjin Scout as well.
@@christopherlarsen7788 I was E-5 Commo Section Chief HHC 2nd BDE 7th ID at Camp Dodge on the DMZ (first tent city across Freedom Bridge, 1/4 from Camp Greaves). We were operational 4BDE of 2nd ID from 21 March 1968. We did not rotate as Battalion units did. I was on DMZ from March 1968 to March 1969.
@@n516tr - Whoa. Long tour! I believe the JSA do the same. That is, they stay at their post for the entire 12-month tour. Infantry battalions rotate in and out every 3 months, as you've stated. At least that's the way it was in the 1980s.
i spent 1969 on top of a mountain just north of Camp Carol - great times because the nearest officer was 26 miles away! At night I could sometimes listen in on the fire control net in Vietnam and think there but for the grace of God . . .

1967-1968. I remember my airline being "Northwest Orient", Ft Lewis out of Seatac. We had such bad turbulence over Korea we had to go back to Haneda. Another couple of nights in Tokyo didnt break my heart.

Thanks for the video. I was with HHC 2/72d Armor, Mortar Platoon, Camp Beard '69-'70. Spent countless days and nights on the Southern Imjin. Spent a bit of time in Yongjogol.
HHC 2/72nd Armor - Camp Beard 1968 then went to Blue Lancer Valley - Nullo-Ri end of 1968 thru May 1969. I also saw a bit of Yonjugol up close and personal.
Camp Howze, 1971-1972. Sp4 Randy Handley, company clerk, HHC, 2nd Engineer Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. Forty seven years ago. And now I've become an old man.
Ray Homberg, I simply have to applaud you because you served in a very difficult place in Korea. I am aware that it was really hard near the DMZ (right on the border with North Korea). I served many miles to the south in a very comfortable Army Camp.Me jog was in doors, with Special Weapon Systems Maintenance. ... Good video!
My husband, Robert Chudej, was an MP near the DMZ from Sept 1966-Oct 1967. He strayed a bit by going to the bars in Yongjugol probably in July-August-September 1967 so I'm curious about what the back rooms in the bars looked like. He said the prostitutes in the bars took him to their back rooms in the various bars to perform the requested service & be paid. He said he was too drunk every time he went to one of the bars to remember what the girls he picked up on each trip to Yongjugol looked like or to notice what her back room looked like. He said he'd like to forget he was ever in Korea. Interesting since so many comments here are from G.I.s who loved their tour of duty near Yongjugol's entertainment "options." He talks about RC#1 too. At least he got back to the states "clean" with no evidence of VD & as far as we know, he didn't father any children with any of the prostitutes.
A Co, 304th Sig Bn, most Koreans thought that all American men wanted was sex. Operation Focus Retina, I slipped off one night and went to a near by farm. I gave them$20, then mamasan offered up a young daughter. I just wanted a warm bed as March 1969 was very cold and we were in the field. Got it across for them to wake me up before dawn. Koreans were one of the nicest people I encountered, the other were Libyans.
