Transfer partners might not be the best but having an effective AF of +$5 even if you just redeem for statement credit I’ll gladly add it to my wallet. The 30k limit is a nice bump to my overall portfolio.
Some good, and some bad for sure. Just wanted to share what my experience had been like so far so it could help somebody else thinking through it on their own! Thanks for watching!
My 2 favorite now is Captial one venture x since I live in Dallas and chase sapphire reserve as i travel to NYC and they will open phoenix it hits up those travel spots where I go most often! I also like to multiplier on both and they both offer $300 travel credit! I think Chase has more transfer partners and more lounge openings! I use Chase with my business ink to grow my Chase points !
I’m a beginner (but eager student) of the credit card game, I barely travel domestically, but I make 1-2 international flights a year. For me this card has been a dream to use, but I also recognize I don’t have a lot of experience with which to make good comparisons. All I know is I’m having a good experience so far!
I just like this card due to the simple fact that you’re already getting $400 in value off the bat with the travel credit and anniversary points, so anything else is just a cherry on top. Yes travel partners suck, but some people don’t really want to spend the time to transfer points to partners or to transfer points all around. They just want a simple to use travel card that gives them nice amenities at a reasonable fare and this card satisfies that.
RE the rental insurance: you may still want Hertz’s insurance vs Capital One’s. The Venture X provides secondary CDW, meaning your personal auto insurance would kick in first, and only after that is exhausted would the Venture X insurance kick in. I haven’t looked, but Hertz is more likely to offer primary CDW. This is what can get the Sapphire Preferred to pay for itself over a couple rentals, because it does offer primary CDW.
Awesome video. Tbh I have a hard time finding a good redemption rate for domestic flights with most card issuers. That’s why the CSR’s 1.5 base portal rate on this is amazing. However the CSR, doesn’t have cell phone protection. You could use your freedom flex for cell phone protection. World elite Mastercards seem to offer more broad cell phone protection.
It can't hurt having your cell phone bill on a card with cell phone protection even if it doesn't cover everything you'd expect (like my situation in this video). I'm starting to think that one day the CSR may be the way to go, especially if I accumulate a ton of Chase UR points.
I definitely think this is one of the things new cardholders get surprised by the most after having the card. Good on you for actually checking out the partner list and judging if it's going to be worth it for your own personal travel style.
Pays for itself, access to lounges, premium stay perks, and good airline transfer partners makes it a must. It doesn’t have the Chase partners for sure, but it’s absolutely a no brainer in terms of worth.
Thank you for your time. I am getting the Capital One Venture next week. Going to Vietnam so will have no problem spending the $4k in 3 months. I just couldn't do an annual fee of $395. It's a mental block I think. :) As I like to read everything, if I get someone to sign up, I get a 50K bonus. That's pretty good.
Thanks for watching! Don't blame you at all for avoiding the higher annual fee, it's all up to personal preference. If you'd like to support the channel, it would be greatly appreciated if you used our link when you go to apply. No pressure at all though - hope you enjoy your time in Vietnam! I also have issue with your criticism of Choice Hotel points. Choice points are worth more than Hilton points, for example. The problem is that Capitol One transfers to them at 1:1, whereas Citi and Wells Fargo transfer at 2:1. So a bad redemption with C1 only.
@@robertjarrell7276 just did (again). I’m not paying $200/30k pts (.66 cpp) night to stay at a quality inn. 🤡. And Choice upscale are a Hilton midscale..with worse service/quality/return on spend.
Unless I'm mistaken, that cell phone coverage is a Visa Infinite benefit that is the same across all VI cards, such as the CSR and the altitude reserve. So, it's not particular to Capital One.
I hope I didn't make it sound like the cell phone protection is unique to the VX. If I did - my bad! There are a few $0 annual fee cards with cell phone protection too that can be great adds.
Have you had an Apple Store service rep confirm that the lightning port is actually fully failed requiring replacement, vs. just being filled up with dust and pocket lint? It’s common for lightning connectors to stop charging and require cleaning out of packed-in dust with a toothpick to restore functionality.
Really appreciate the shout out here. This is actually exactly what it turned out to be. They were able to fix it for free since I also went in for something else too!
@@TheRDGuarantee Happened to me back on an iPhone 5, and I guess they hadn't figured out the cause yet because I got a replacement model out of the deal. I think it's the no debt or you have to show that you carry a balance then pay off. I pay off or hold a balance on one card and pay more double the amount to pay it down. Then I get accepted for other cards. Idk why but that's what I think it is. I got approved my 1st try.
Simple, the credit issuer doesn't find how they can profit from you. Another reason can be you are holding too many cards. To get into the Capital game, you need to open it on your mid-game credit card. Let's say it would be easier for you to get approval if you are holding 2-4 credit cards rather than holding almost 10 credit cards.
It does not carry over from year to year, so make sure you have at least one trip per year on the books that will cost at least $300. If you have to go out of your way to take a trip you wouldn't normally, then this card may not be the best fit. Thanks for watching!
I'm currently using the Capital One Venture X and BILT Mastercard as my main setup. I only use these two cards. I first got the BILT card, and I would use that card for all my purchases. I recently got the Venture X, and I used that card for all my purchases to meet the sign up bonus requirement. Now that I got the sign up bonus points... I'm using both at the same time. BILT for rent day and dining and the Venture X for all other purchases. Do you guys think I should only stick to one card to keep all my points on one card? Using both cards will evenly distribute my points between both cards. I'm not sure if it's best to just stick to one.
I think it depends on how often you travel and how quickly you think you'll redeem the points/miles. If you travel somewhat infrequently and have time to stack points in two different currencies, then points diversity can be a good thing! It gives you redemption options when you go to take a trip. But if you travel all the time and don't have time in between trips to earn more points/miles, spreading them out over two card providers can limit you.
So I get that the 10 and 5 is great, but I have never had booking through capital as being the least expensive way to book….so I never get it. So I just use the venture and still get the 2x on everything. The lounges I have not really looked into so🤷♀️
Hi. How easy has it been for you to redeem the $300 annual travel credit with the Venture X? Do you think this feature alone justifies the card’s annual fee?
It’s one of the easiest travel credits on any card to redeem. With the card once you go into Chase travel to book your trip before you check out. It will ask you if you’d like to apply your travel credit to the purchase. You will get it refreshed to $300 every single year.
Yea that’s my only gripe about it is I don’t see a progress bar Chase United or Chase sapphire tells you how much left you have to spend to get the bonus miles
Yea that’s my only gripe about it is I don’t see a progress bar Chase United or Chase sapphire tells you how much left you have to spend to get the bonus miles
Better value with the chase unlimited and CSR. 50% point boost makes chase a 2.25x on every purchase, or cash out at 1cpp rather than capital one .8cpp. plus add the Flex and you're getting 7.5x on the quarterly categories. Chase trifecta is really hard to beat for the average person. No need for travel partner hassle when you can just use the portal for the point boost. Simple.
I've got the CSP and the Freedom Flex now. I use those as my dining and rotating category cards to try to maximize value for Chase Points, then use the Venture X as catch-all for things that don't fit in to Chase's elevated categories.
Totally agreed w you on the domestic flights and Priority Pass launches in the United States. It is so hard to get a seat within the US flights …. Priority Pass launches isn’t that great but better than buying food outside, sometimes I feel buying outside food, seems to be a better choice that is if you want to spend money.
I don't know, I've really enjoyed the Presidents Circle since I've started because of the upgrades. I'll rent a car that goes for $89-$95/day and after I ask for the upgrade at the counter, I'm into a car that would have rented for $95-$115 a day. Recently they upgraded me two classes "just because". Maybe this would happen with some sweet talking at the counter or maybe the Pres Circle does help.
@@glennr9913 Internationally it will vary. Domestically in the US, Hertz PC is a good benefit. You can get something 2-3 tiers higher for the same price. And on the C1 portal, I find it to be significantly cheaper than booking direct.
