Former enterprise employee here. I worked at multiple branches including an airport for a couple years right out of college. One common theme in the comments is the emphasis on customer service. This is something Enterpise takes very seriously. We would get our customer service score at the end of every month and was basically a make or break for bonus payouts and promotions. I even saw managers get fired for too many low customer service scores in a row. If you rent there you will probably ask you if you were “completely satisfied” with your experience because there is such an emphasis on it. And if you weren’t we were literally told that you need to “make it right” lol. Glad I’m out of the rental industry but definitely will still go there over the rest of the other companies.

Within the last month, we were told we cannot any longer coach the survey, but we still need to get the same results and try and dig and feel for upset customer when they’re returning.
Plenty of customers who don’t express their feelings and say they’re fine when they return and then burn our scores with a ‘somewhat satisfied’ can be quite frustrating

@@ca_renegade Dang, sounds like it’s not getting any easier. That is a good point, there would be folks that would say everything was great but then give an average survey response. That always drove me crazy.

Former ABM with Enterprise here. I left the company a few weeks ago. Nothing against the people I worked with, but the emphasis on "You can do everything perfectly but we're still going to withhold promotions based on if you're not achieving our SQI requirements" was ridiculous. We could not tell customers about the survey or use wordpaths that would normally let us know the customer was actually compsat, but when you don't have any auto detailers, you're cleaning and renting the vehicles yourself. Not exactly a winning formula.

With a bit of tweaking, the Bluezone Terminal Emulator can be configured to print to any printer. You just need to build and associate the template so that the data is printed in alignment. I did this, along with ‘sign here’ labels indicating where the customer needs to sign. If anyone wants a copy of the template, let me know.

I've been renting cars for decades, everything from local travel for when my car was in the shop to cross-country travel. Enterprise is the best company to deal with and it is not even close. The price is better, they pick you up, the locations are more convenient, the cars are nicer and they have a larger selection. Every interaction with the employees at this company have been superb. They have a great culture. I wish more companies were as well-operated and customer-oriented as Enterprise.
Here is one anecdote: A few months ago, my family and I went for a trip to Canada. They originally gave us the price for a SUV. However, when I told them I planned to travel to Canada, we were informed that they had a policy that they didn't allow SUVs out of the country due to theft. They upgraded us to a mini-van at the same cost! Most companies would hem and haw and charge extra. We got in and out at Enterprise! Really amazing company that is unparalleled in the US.

I am a National (subsidiary of Enterprise) Emerald Aisle business customer. I would never use anyone else after the ease and convenience offered by this program. Walk into the garage, get in the car, drive away. I’ve been on so many business trips where people I knew waited hours at the Avis desk while I was already on the road.
Further, I recently missed my flight in one state and National just let me drive my rental to my final destination city for only an additional days charge. 7 hour drive was sure better than staying over night and flying the next day

My best experience with National was in the middle of 2020. Had to go hit a few client sites in Tulsa and across Kansas. Get to the Tulsa airport where the rental center is under construction, and there's a huge line at the Enterprise counter of folks with their families and no reservations. Me and this other lady business traveler get pulled aside since we had reservations and the poor lady at the counter told us both that the only cars they had available right now were a pair of Cameros.
You mean I have to cruise by myself up and down Kanses in a pony car, pretty much the only time I'd willingly choose one? Hells yeah.

Walk into the lot, go to the President's Circle or Gold aisle, take a car and go, as long as I reserved a standard (D class). Cost me a flat $32 a day (plus tax) with my discount. I've driven a Merc C300, Dodge Charger, Mustang Convertible. I never have yet to drive the class I reserved 😁

I totally agree, and think that National does it the best hands down. The Executive/Emerald aisle makes life very easy and there are always cars at most major airports which is why I think they are king of this model. Having Avis and Hertz status and using the similar model, National still does it better. Avis usually falls behind on cars at a lot of airports and you have to go speak to someone out at the lot in their little booth. Hertz does a pretty decent job here as well but National seems to have slightly more options as a whole. I will say that Avis is best for one way rentals but will not give you unlimited mileage. I've had many times Avis is the only one of the 3 that will give me a car (.30/mi) on a one way where National and Hertz will say no cars available (unless you return same place).

@@MattTabish yeah every now and again I end up with a Hyundai sedan or something but typically I get something that I enjoy trying out. Had a really cool Audi A6 the other day
The reason I missed my flight was that I brought my pregnant wife on the business trip and she had a medical issue which required an ER visit. I was so grateful when I called National to ask about driving the car one way and the actual human being on the other end of the line just said “oh absolutely not a problem you go right ahead and I’ll just charge the card on file for one additional day and I’m emailing you a receipt now.”
I was blown away that 1) the customer service person was domestic in the states 2) genuinely wanted to help me even though I was taking a brand-new full-size SUV out of their local inventory which can have an effect down the line. Really helped me out in a stressful situation

As someone who uses to work at Hertz, I can tell you that a big liability is the over reliance on State Farm claims for the insurance replacement rental market. Insurance replacements only occur at neighborhood branches off-airport and can be stressful as an employee because there is almost no schedule with them. Any car rented out needs to be returned and if you have too many unplanned rentals, that can mess up the inventory, but the State Farm Claimants have to be taken care of because it’s such an important section of the company’s business.

I've had excellent experiences with Enterprise at airports. Very quick and efficient, especially with the app. Considering how much more it costs to rent from Enterprise at a major airport than it does at my local office they damn well better be delivering an A+ experience!
For my local Enterprise, my experience over nearly a decade of using them has sometimes been great and sometimes good...enough. The customer service is always pretty good, but a few times I've had problems with my local office being understaffed (ironically, before the pandemic, but not since!) or not having my vehicle ready on time or giving me a vehicle without doing some minor routine maintenance (refilling the washer fluid, replacing worn out wiper blades).

I gotta say, 10/10 video as always Company Man. I have (in the past 3 years) been needing to rent cars myself for business / leisure reasons and have had to deal with all 3 of these companies. As a kid, my mom always used Enterprise. It's funny you mention because they aim for the now traveling market, and that's why my mom primarily used them haha. Anytime her car was down, or in the shop for a while- I can picture us running to Enterprise down the street (vs all the way to Hertz or National at the airport) and it was always a pleasant experience. They had a little bowl of candy for me every time, it felt extremely personable and I always remembered that. Now that i'm grown, I find myself using Hertz with the Gold Membership. As a customer, I really enjoy the fact I can walk up to the airport or standalone store, say my name, grab the keys and go. Less than a minute, and it works with my travel style perfectly. For business, my company works with the AVIS fleet and once again- Flawless experience.
I might be a little rose tinted glasses with these 3 companies, and their acquisitions but seriously! I haven't had a bad experience, even when having to call customer support or in person. Always a very respectful and enjoyable experience. Great video!! Always a good time and quality assessment with you

I had a terrible experience w Budget, will never rent a car from them (or Avis) again. I had to make a last minute long distance trip in the middle of the pandemic (2021) and budget was the only local place w cars available. I showed up to where I was supposed to pick the car up, and the office was closed and locked. (Later found out the kid working there was taking a nap.) I called both Budget and Avis’s corporate line, who directed me to a different location. That office nobody was there, after 10 minutes of calling out I walked to the back when this girl comes running out of the bathroom saying I couldnt be back there (after waiting for 10 min, not seeing anyone.) She didnt have any cars so she called the guy at the first office, woke him up, and sent me back there. I was in a rush too. Enterprise is sooo much better

8:19. I would say that Avis is the "premium" brand of Avis Budget Group, Budget, although the name indicates it is a "cheaper" brand, is definitely one of the major car rental companies, maybe not as prestigious as Avis, and in some cases cheaper than Avis (by a few dollars, but it truly varies). Payless, on the other hand is what I would consider a cut rate rental car company, that doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the major rental car companies. Also, while not mentioned in the video, Sixt Car Rental is starting to gain the reputation of one of the major players. In fact, Sixt was able to outbid Avis and Budget for space in the rental car center at Reagan National Airport, and now Avis and Budget are relegated to an off-site location serviced by a shuttle.

Ive used Enterprise for what they're originally meant to be. Mostly in my life, I've used the lesser ones due mostly to price, because Avis and Hertz were ALWAYS more expensive than the others. My personal favorite was renting a Ford Ranger for $20/day from Budget back in the day. I knew things had changed when i was in Ft. Dodge, IA, and while their airport's only rental counter was Hertz, they didn't take advantage of that and the prices were actually cheap for once. I've used Hertz at least one other time, and Avis once, but i do mostly use the others if the car and the price is right.

I arrange car rentals for clients that fly on private jets, and with those you get on and off at private terminals that are their own buildings, so I arrange the vehicles to be brought to the terminal's parking lot before the plane lands. A terminal agent holds on to the keys and paperwork, hands it over and gets paperwork filled out if needed, and they're on their way. That said, Hertz has the biggest tendency to just not do that. Like we literally have the car scheduled for pick up at the private terminal, and usually for an additional charge, and way too many Hertz employees are comfortable with not showing up and the local branch suddenly becoming unreachable when I try to call them and ask what the hell is going on. I hate Hertz and am extremely annoyed by Enterprise/National's customer service line not being 24/7. Hertz's customer service number only recently became 24/7, too. I will say one time a client called me because his Avis rental broke down in Italy, and since it was Sunday I and a German Avis employee I spoke to could not get a hold of a single Avis employee in all of Italy. They didn’t even have an emergency number. That was ridiculous.

I used to work for a dealership in Iowa at a body shop and we had our own Hertz location on site. While we were repairing their car we would put them in a Hertz or Enterprise rental car. Cool video!!

When I traveled in a previous job, I usually rented from Avis when I wanted a car locally to drive to clients in the surrounding area. When I had to fly and needed a rental car at the airport, I usually took Hertz, as I got a discount and the ease of selecting the car I wanted without going through the rental office.

Hertz actually tries to scam people and blame previous damages on the new renter, and make them pay for it.

I agree. They did that to me on a past trip. It was obvious the issue was from the car wash machine they ran it through but tried to hit me with a $1300 fee. End result is I am now banned from Hertz and loyal to Avis.

I take photos of the entire car inside and out (including trunk showing spare or no spare) prior to leaving the lot. And again upon return. Right in front of them. I'm 12th generation American which helps...my Vietnamese-American friend said they claimed a dent on his roof was caused by him. If you are foreign you definitely need to protect yourself as they will try to scam you.

@@robloxvids2233 You can take all the pics you want. If they claim you damaged their vehicle, it is still a PITA to resolve. Never understood how people can just leave a rental car upon return without getting a receipt at minimum.

I have used enterprise/national a lot for work. And avis/budget for personal uses a couple times. I think I will also use enterprise for personal use in the future as the cars have been better maintained for the most part and service was better.

I only rent from National (or enterprise if National isn’t available) the emerald aisle where you can pick any car you want and just drive off is great. No waiting at the counter. And the customer service is hard to beat.

I used Enterprise twice. Once was via an insurance company. The other was because my car needed work. Both times were great.
I was looking online for a car rental for the 2nd time, and everyone said to avoid Hertz. So many horror stories at the time about Hertz. Enterprise had the 2nd-best price at the time combined with ease of pick up and drop off

I travel a lot on business and I deeply, seriously prefer enterprise over anyone else. Every time I've needed to rent from them, the process has been seamless. My government or company credit card always works, they always have my order ready or some way to make things right, and their staff is always kind and efficient. I dread renting from anywhere else because something *always* goes wrong 😂 so it's not surprising to me at all that they're the ones sitting on top

I always got a kick out of that parody in MAD Magazine of the man flying out of an airplane commercials of the 60s with the caption "Help! A man named Hertz pushed me out of the plane!" Haha! I used Hertz in the 90s and never had a problem with them! They would even upgrade me to a better car if I couldn't comfortably fit into the one they chose due to my 6'7 height at no charge! I do believe it was Enterprise, however that once had a gal working there get snippy with me when my rental was taking a long time to get processed - even after the time it was due - with her remarking that I had "showed up early!" So what?! Haha!

Enterprise is my go to. Always get the best customer service (even with language barriers) never have an issues. Although I do tend to rent based on price and inclusions.
The only frsutrating thing (common across all of them) is there is no centralised customer service, it is all done through the country of rental, which makes sense, except that a lot of the customer service info & contacts will automatically redirect based on IP.

Another very good discussion of corporations and brands with this one of the 'big 3' in car rental groups. Each have, along with sub-brands, various niches in the markets. Hertz, Avis and National were the dominate competitive leaders in the corporate accounts business, especially at airports. I don't think Enterprise has offered the 'pick you up' service' for a number of years.

I have worked for Avis and enterprise. Avis for 1 month and enterprise for a combo 2+ years.
Enterprise is biggest for a reason. I left because of bad management. But it was absolutely one of the best jobs I’ve worked.
