  • Dave Roberts and Tom Scholey head to Drennan Lindholme Lakes near Doncaster to review three major items of tackle. The Daiwa Connoisseur G90 pole, Cadence CR10 11ft waggler rod, and Matrix XR 36 Pro Seatbox all come under scrutiny, as the lads catch some fish and enjoy the venues facilities...

At last an unbiased unsponsored review warts and all. These two have to be the best duo in fishing. Hinge and Bracket spring to mind. Tackle manufacturers beware, from now on no mediocre products or these two will be on it. Well done to Dave and Tom.
Warning the next tackle review is in Thailand, watch out for the ending in the hot tub. We might need David Attenborough for that one.

My experience of dacron connectors is that they should be avoided. I noticed that Dave said he uses dacron and then corrected himself by saying trout backing. They are not the same product so be aware!
Dacron cuts into elastic. I have used 20lb trout flyline backing for as long as I have used a pole, which is well more than thirty years. I make my own links and use heatshrink tubing to neaten the knot.
Someone came into my local tackle shop a few months back to have all the elastic changed in his top sections. He bought in a dozen tops, which were going to cost him a small fortune. He changes elastic every few months, apparently. Wow!
When the elastic was checked at the back of the knot, where the dacron chokes it, almost every one was cut into. I can honestly say, in thirty years of using trout backing, I have NEVER suffered from this problem. Throw your dacron away. The tackle giants would love everyone to replace elastic every few months and dacron helps them to achieve this. Far too stiff, far too abrasive, please avoid.

Another great video Tom. I use a Connoisseur G50 on the cut. And I've also got a Cadence 11' #1 again for the cut, for clear conditions chucking 2BB canal greys in the wides.

I don't have one yet, but I'm in love with the CR10 range from Cadence. Hand on heart, I reckon they're under priced for their performance, and quality.
On another tangent, you 2 are real clowns, even in the cold on wet, you kept me chuckling in my seat. Some of Dave's humour was a little subtle, but not missed,, and quite clever too.
Please keep these vids coming, great entertainment, very informative, and useful, regarding professional opinions on tackle to help us reduce our search for the right gear.

Very enjoyable watch, covering all the relevant points in detail, not just waffling on for the camera.
Is there any chance that you could show more on how to set up the rods etc?
    Keep them up👍
    Mike.

I think Dave and Tom are a great double act, a good mix of reviewing the product with a nice dose of banter and humour, are the reviews independent?
I'm not sure I'd say Tom is primarily in marketing I guess it's down to his clients and how would they respond to a critical review? Overall though I could listen to these two all day they're so funny made me laugh when Dave told Tom he's very adept at missing bites 🤣🤣🤣

Hi can you please do a video review with the top diawa poles ie air z / tournament pro x / airity. Plus the xls versions would be interesting to know your thoughts while fishing with them at full length

I bought a g50 about a month before they brought out the g90 there's not a lot of difference mainly bushes. I love it it's not as light as the top end daiwa but it's miles ahead from poles 10years ago. I think you would not go wrong with a g90

if you think daiwa have had the best flagship pole you need to look at cadence map and middy and tell me why haven't daiwa won any awards the last few years for best flagship pole?

  • @robertcourt8593

Dave, at the 54 minute mark you should have put an extra shot on to see how many missed bites Tom would have had before he twigged 😂
