Jesus, I know that the greeks were really pioneering almost all of modern theatre, but who the hell thought that choruses were a good idea? "Mm yess, a bunch of people creepily speaking in unison, talking directly to the audience. Yes! This is a genious storytelling tactic!"
What we view as theatre and entertainment today was different than how the ancient Greeks viewed it. According to Arostotle's poetics, theatre, or the imitation of action, is not possible if a chorus was not present. The chorus represented the people. In Greek society, the people was highly regarded by royalty, as their approval or disapproval could greatly influence the course of the ruler's judgement. Without a chorus, there would be no representation of the people. Without representation of the people, the Greeks arguably would not care about what's going on within the confides of the stage. Hope this answers your 2 year old question.
Also, I'd like to add that during Haemon plea towards Creon, he states that the people are talking in secret about how noble it was for Antogone to bury Polyneices. This can be confirmed by the chorus' soliloquy.
I wish the content between these parts was included, it leaves each part feeling incomplete unless you watch the full movie or read the script with it.
Am I the only one thinking Creon looks like Dr. Evil? That outfit... just me? Okay.
I think they got the idea for Dr. Evil's outfit from this. Lmaoo

To be fair, this might not be the best representation of what the chorus was. Maybe it worked better for the Greeks than it does here.
@@ElvenRaptor And to be fair, it might be a better representation ...
