I had the pleasure to meet you this weekend in Portland Oregon and not to my surprise, I was utterly inspired by your amazing abilities and how you command such power on stage. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to meet you and get some insight on how to better myself. You inspired me to buy an Electric Delta Salvi. Thank you Sasha!
Alas, a massacre! No one could have done any better than rimsky himself did on this piece of music and its ideas. No need for all the flashy harp trickery. Just stick with the incredible inspiration of the original. Nice try but you need more respect for just what statue of Music this is, far beyond your own manipulations.
Joseph Marcello You’re entitled to your opinion. It’s a very narrow-minded, pompous opinion, but you’re entitled to it, nonetheless. This brilliant young harpist wasn’t trying to “better” Rimsky-Korsakov’s music. He was improvising his own NEW musical composition-a harp solo based on a beautiful R-K tune, and quite beautifully, creatively, and technically perfectly realized, I might add. I suppose YOU’D call Liszt’s Rigoletto Paraphrase for piano solo a massacre too. Verdi loved it. But what did Verdi know, right?
I don't think Mr. Marcello read the title, or didn't understand what it meant. A "fantaisie" is not in any way another name for the original, nor is it even the same as an arrangement of the original. A fantaisie is much freer than that. It is more or less a piece inspired by the named original in which the melodies will be recognizable, but they will not be the same! Because a fantaisie is not a replaying of the original! It is a different piece. But appropriate credit must be given. I give Mr. Marcello the benefit of the doubt that he did not read the title or did not understand what the first word meant. He is also obviously not a harpist nor acquainted with us. We are a playful bunch, always coaxing new sounds from our beloved instrument. Yes, if Mr. Marcello misunderstood and was expecting to hear the same notes Rimsky-Korsakof played, his comment is understandable! He must have been perplexed, wondering, "What is this! Where- So many wrong notes he's playing! Rimsky-Korsakof did not write these notes, he''s playing it wrong!"
He is not only a fantastic Harp performer but has a great sense of humor. I just watched him yesterday in Pittsburgh, and every moment was amazing.
I think I may have a new "Most Favorite Harpist"! So musical.. amazing technique.. and handsome, too!
He has been on my favorites list for a few years now! Definitely worth YouTubing him some more😁

Art is simply expression. To say art is absent of opinion is to be detached from reality.
What do you think a "fantasia" is?
