He did not address those 142R motors controlled by PWM. How to test them?

I have a Carrier Heat Pump system. My third 142R has just died again! This one lasted just 3 years. What crap.

Two of these have died in my Rheem A/C over the past 6 years. He mentions surge protection, but as an electrical engineer I have studied the circuit diagram, there is a thermistor, for inrush current control, but NO surge protection.

Well I hope there's a way for you to make it more durable. Ours just crapped the bed at 5 years. Compared to 35 years on the previous unit that was still running.

@Thomas Rock it has capacitors on the control board inside the bottom housing of the motor. aka another thing that can go wrong and isn't easy to replace like an external capacitor.

@Thomas Rock i find it funny that the motor i have has all this fancy control circuitry and is basically turned on and off by a relay (no variable speed control board in the outdoor unit) - so it probably could be replaced with an old-style motor that doesn't have this without any issues so long as a capacitor is added

These will need replaced every 18 to 24 months. I'm on my 3rd. Male sure you install a high pressure switch.

Where can I buy online the ECM 142 DX05 control box? Is ECM142R compatiable wit old motor? The same question: where to buy it? Thanks in advance for the answer.

Excellent instructional video and still you did not specify what kind of communication control voltage goes in the motor,is it AC or DC voltage? Thanks

Signal wires are White and Yellow, Blue is common. Control voltage is 24vac..

@@KirkA0906 Well according to the documentation you referenced above, low voltage control to the ECM motor comes directly from the thermostat and is in fact 24VAC (not dc) which is what the step down transformer located in the air handler/furnace outputs.

@@KirkA0906 No problem, I'll let you know when I become perfect. Probably not any time soon. Forgot to thank you for the documentation link above. I read through it, very helpful as I have a 2 stage Goodman condenser that is now 10 years old.

I have two 142R's with bad bearings. When mounted shaft down they take in water through the casing bolts and the bottom bearing is consumed in water. I seal the top bolts with seam sealer at install. Best to inspect your unit before its too late. This is not a good outdoor motor design.

Same, Rheem 142r 1/3 hp, mine always sounded wrong to me when it started. The installer said that was normal, 2 years latter and it failed, they replaced it, made the same screeching noise on startup and about 2 years again it failed again, I had to buy a used unit because I couldn’t find a new one anywhere, last weekend the used one died and big surprise is its backordered everywhere. Motors are fine but controllers seem to fail but they don’t sell controllers separately. It’s almost like they know it’s a weak point
