However, I am curious, how did you know it was based on the book? Everyone also seemed to know that Shangri-La was based off of a novel too, just curious if it was said in an interview or something as I’d like to hear them talk about their work! Plus I feel super behind not knowing where it came from :,D
They never mentioned that Scentist is based on the novel (I think mainly because they'll be banned by music shows if they do 😂) but it's the most accepted theory among the fandom because it fits with the MV and lyrics of the song (and not to mention title). In the MV, they even used a lot of symbolism and imagery like the blood (a loooot of blood), torture tools on the walls, skull, gun, etc.
For Shangri la, it's a little easier. From what I have gathered (I'm not really sure since I'm not familiar with the novel), Do Won Kyong (korean of Shangri la) is not an actual place or word. It's a fictional place in this one novel. And this said novel depicts Do Won Kyong as a paradise-like place where humans and animals live in harmony (thus the animals in Shangri la MV).
