I bought the Bissell machine several months ago and used it twice. We no longer have pets but carpets still get dirty and I spilled coffee (horrors!) on my bedroom carpet. Boy, it works very well but then I had to clean it. Looking back, it was really pretty straight forward and next time I'll be able to clean it in less than half the time. Satisfied. BTW, good video. Thanks. It's reassuring to see that I didn't make a bad choice.
This was very informative. I had purchased the Hoover but after struggling with cleaning the nozzle and around the brush I realized it was too involved. I needed to see that the Bissell would be easier and your video helped me make the decision to return the Hoover and get the Bissell.

I just got this Bissell carpet cleaner today and wow it’s so much better than the Hoover. I did one of my area rugs and it came out cleaner and the machine was simple to clean with no caked on gunk where the brush roller was. I’m impressed.

We bought the Hoover last month. First time using it, it gushed ALL of the solution onto the carpet. Apparently it's not an isolated problem. Even though I ran a water-only rinse, but that didn't help at all. The hallway now has 3 massive stains BECAUSE of that unit. We sent it back and got a refund. Others on Amazon didn't have this problem and liked the unit.
A few days ago I trash picked a black/lime green Bissell turbo clean power brush model 2987. It “runs and drives“, that is, the motor runs and the brush roll spins. And it looks like it has not been used that much. It was not even horribly dirty. My guess is it was trashed possibly because of a malfunction with the pump, or maybe a leak. I don’t know. I’m not done fully checking it out yet. I did determine that neither one of the tanks leak. And I don’t think it was dirty enough to have been clogged.
I never put the solution in the bottle because it flows through the motor. I imagine that shortens the life. I use a spray bottle to mist the areas that might need it, and spray more heavily on spots. The very first time someone "helped" me shampoo my carpet, she ruined the machine by putting the solution in the bottle. The motor gives off an electric smoke smell and no longer has any suction. ICYMBI: I leave the rubber "door" on the Hoover PowerDash Pet slightly off/open even when it's stored. Ya gotta allow the tank to dry out or it WILL get smelly and nasty. The new tank design makes much more sense. I'm about to buy one bc of the last one going kaput.
Hoover, the top before the brush should come out so you can get the hair out. If not then just spray water in there to the brushes so you can get the water out of the nozzle part.
You may of mentioned if so, I missed it, but does the Bissell extract water better too? Also, which of those shampoos do you think worked better. Most likely in combination they worked great:)
@@VacMaster1991 Thanks for the reply back:) Yesterday, I borrowed the Hoover from a family member and cleaned a 3x4 area of white carpet near my entry door. I know not to soak carpet when cleaning. I must say it did a great job cleaning the area however it's now going on 30 hrs later and with the AC on and a fan blowing, it's finally almost dry. And no its not a deep pile carpet; yet it's still damp. At the end of the day, I believe when it comes to carpet cleaning, not soaking the carpet is important but the water extraction may be the most important function:)
I'm looking for the best carpet cleaner for around $100. What one on the market would you most recommend? The Bissell seems to be about $20 more than the Hoover, but wondering if there are better options that I could use to refresh my carpet for my entire apartment.
@@VacMaster1991 thanks, that was my main choice. my carpet doesn't have any stains, I just would like to make it smell fresh and remove any odors absorbed especially near the kitchen. Do you know what solution would work best for that, would pro oxy still be best?
I hate tests like this where they smear stains on a carpet. Those stains are fresh, it takes years of stains to give it a good test, not a fresh stain that will come off easily.
I have owned both of these machines, and both are complete junk... The first one I bought was the Hoover PowerDash Pet, and after only 18 months of light use, the motor fried. Hoover, to their credit, and after much bickering on my part, sent me a brand new unit as replacement even though it was just outside their warranty coverage period. On that second unit, the belt broke after 3 uses so I sent it back. Again, after much bickering, they gave me my money back. I then bought the Bissell Turbo Clean to see if it was any better. It wasn't. It leaked water everywhere and had poor suction. It also didn't clean as well as the Hoover (when the hoover worked) so I sent it back as well. I am technically very adept and followed the instructions exactly as per their respective manuals. I thoroughly cleaned them after each use etc. etc. Also, both of these machines were used on the same low pile very high quality carpet. The problem, as is with everything you buy these days, is that they are manufactured in China which invariably results in poor workmanship and quality control. Yes, the units may be designed in the U.S., but then these companies outsource their manufacturing to third-party Chinese manufacturers - hence the poor quality and reliability. And let's not kid ourselves. These are disposable units designed to fail in a short period of time (usually just shortly after their carefully worded "Limited Warranty" periods). Throw away junk filling landfills. I finally gave up on buying carpet shampooers and instead I now have my carpets deep cleaned once a year by a professional with the right equipment for $125.00 who does an incredible job on all my carpets. Much cheaper than having to deal with cheap Chinese-made crap that fail after just a few uses, and having buy another one with the same design and manufacturing flaws. The only way Bissell and Hoover can keep making money is for people to keep buying replacement products in the shortest amount of time possible. Do yourselves a favor folks .... don't get sucked into buying these things regardless of all the ratings you see online . You're only wasting your money.
