I shook the late Jerry Corbetta's hand during the "Classic Rock All Stars" tour back in August of 2005 at the Midland, Michigan County Fairgrounds!! Also I met Peter Rivera (drummer & former singer of Rare Earth), the late Mike Rivera (Iron Butterfly & Blues Image) & a late member of Cannibal & The Headhunters (of 1965 "Land Of 1,000 Dances). Besides that, also performing were Mitch Ryder, Joey Molland's Badfinger, Mark Farner (former Grand Funk Railroad singer) & Chuck Negron (former Three Dog Night singer)!! The 1971 Sugarloaf song "Mother Natures Wine" (from "Spaceship Earth") is another great song!!
FOH audio guy here. Live mixed the Classic Rock All Stars many times in the 90's. Still have 20 or so "Board Tapes" on cassette and DAT. Jerry, Pete, Mike, and the rest were really cool guys. Fly on the wall back stage stories I'll never forget.
Always dug Green Eyed Lady w/ its rippin B3 solo & Wes Montgomery inspired guitar,& wondered why they didn’t follow up w/ something similar. Then when I heard Don’t Call Us several years later I recognized I Feel Fine lick after the John,Paul & George lyric. Always wondered what Sugarloaf’s story was…thanks Professor,HNY to you & yours
Another refreshing dose of nostalgia. It so memorizing to see how these classics we all grew up with came together from the artists who created them. Don't Call Us We'll Call You takes me back to walking the the track at school after lunch with a school buddy of mine talking about the latest hits of the time. Me and some buddies of mine used to jam Green Eyed Lady and I would back up my friend playing the solo cuz he knew how to do that octave thing really well. It was fun to jam. Awesome video Professor and happy new year!
This guy seems like a great guy. This is yet another reason I love your channel Adam. Getting to know the people behind the songs. Now I’ve got another band to get to know. I’m gonna go through their catalog. This is a guy I could sit down and have a couple of beers with. Great job
Green-Eyed Lady has always been one of my all-time favorite songs! I wasn’t born until over a year later & for some reason, this song grabbed my heart as a child & never let it go. It's a true banger! Tysm, Sugarloaf, for this masterpiece!💜
2 hitters: The Knack- My Sharona, Good Girls Don’t; Janis Ian- At Seventeen, Society’s Child; The Waitresses “I Know What Boys Like”(#62 US), “Christmas Wrapping”(#45 UK) The Inmates - Dirty Water (UK top 40), The Walk (US#51) Edwin McCain - I’ll Be(US #5), I Could Not Ask for More(US #37).
I always loved Green Eyed Lady. Still do. I remember when it was a regular radio staple back in the day. I was like 5 years old. The song still reminds me of certain happy moments back in that time when I was a child. That bass line is one of the best. It is a great song for musicians to jam with. I have to check out the other Sugarloaf stuff because I never knew they released other material.
Don't Call Us Child, We'll Call You. Love Sugarloaf, but my teeth don't. 😂 Want to wish everyone a great new year, and Thanks to the Professor for a great year of music. 🎉
In the Chicago land area, we had two radio stations, WLS and WCFL, that were in heavy competition with each other.. One of the stations, WLS, if I remember correctly, had a contest where they would play a touch tone phone sound. And it was the cue to call the station, If you were the 15th caller, you would be the winner. Listeners were calling the station when Don't call us, we'll call you was played. Before they played the record, one of the DJs would say something like, "This is not the contest, so please don't call."
The late Wolfman Jack indeed said "From Stereo 92" in the song "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You". Sugarloaf made 2 appearances on NBC "The Midnight Special" in 1974 & 1975.
I remember when I was enlisted navy (aviation) in the early 70s. I'd have to stand a 4 hour line watch at the end of a silent runway in the dark hours. Always smuggled out a transistor radio to hear The Wolfman.
Honestly, I secretly worry about these band members that have given me such great songs. When you hear about BIG bands and super stars that are broke, I am concerned for the 1-2 hit bands and hope they have moved to a new chapter and thrived. Glad to see this guy is happy, fulfilled and clearly has had success outside of Sugarloaf. Great video and thank you for what you do!
I always thought Green Eyed Lady was about jealousy or the ocean! Thanks for clearing up the mystery, professor. By the way, as a green eyed lady myself, I’ve always loved this song!
I remember both songs. Great interview once again Professor! Hey, thank you for the Johnny Mathis interview. We lost my mom this year and I sent it to my Uncle Mike. He enjoyed it greatly because seeing him was special to them. My mom and aunt LOVED Johnny Mathis and I love him too. I’m not making out to him though, lol!

Psychedelic Furs are kind of a two or three hit wonder if you look solely at the Billboard charts (Heartbreak Beat #26, Pretty in Pink #41, and Love My Way #44)... Would love for you to interview Richard Butler, one of my favorite voices of the 80s!
“Green eyed Lady” has always been a favorite!❤ Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You” is timeless as well! I love everything about this song, and it’s so funny! So 70s! It’s been my ringtone for 15 years!!!!
A professor I was friends with at CU Boulder told me as a teenager she heard the band rehearsing this song / riff on her street. Great to have the guitarist with a guitar in the interview! I didn't know "Don't Call Us" was Sugarloaf, either.
I really enjoyed that. The 70s was my teenage years. Such a great decade to party in. I lived in an old country town and we found plenty of things to do by just enjoying Mother Nature. She had a lot to offer to us kids. Peace❤
Good morning and Happy New Year, Adam and music lovers. I love the Sugarloaf story and am really looking forward to your take on it. Apparently (from the comments) you also talk about Don't Call Us. I was starting to think I was the only one left who remembered that great song. Enjoy your day!
Always loved Don't Call Us. Sang along to it many times. Green Eyed Lady was ok but never one of my favorites. Great Video Professor. Love the artist's stories about the music.
Liked the "Wolfman jack" reference and also "sounds a little like John, Paul, and George " then the riff from I Feel Fine. Both Sugarloaf songs in this vid have been in my Playlist for a very long time.
I got to meet and see Jerry Corbeta at a festival in Pontiac Michigan called Art Beats and Eats . I can’t believe I got to see those hits live. Many years later I’m at Autorama in Detroit and I start to hear the beginning of Green eyed lady and I’m jogging because I’m old 😂 between car’s until I come upon a cover band playing it. Such a cool song.
Aw, man! I never connected the two songs being from the same band. I don't know how I missed that. Makes me want to delve in some more. Thanks for posting!
@@ProfessorofRock - Thanks, Adam. Q: In 2025, will you be taking your show "on the road," as they say? I would relish the chance to shake your hand. I know you're in ID, and I'm in NJ.
Two great songs!! It wasn’t until I was in my mid 30’s that I realized that Sugarloaf recorded both of these very different sounding tracks. Also If you ever put a record on the turntable and played it backwards to see if you could hear any secret recorded messages, then you will love this show.
Green Eyed Lady is one of the most funky, unusual and rockin' tune my ears have ever heard. The orchestration was so far ahead of what we were hearing at that time....and in my top ten songs to cruise around my car with my friends...
I remember when "Don't Call Us..." came out. Very fun tune. I don't remember being aware that it was the same band as Green Eyed Lady. If I did know, that face didn't make an impression. But, I do remember Don't Call coming seemingly outta nowhere. Then, 'Whoever' was gone. Thx for covering a song that *every once in a while will pop into my head;* bounce around, and bug me for 2 or 3 wks, unresolved. This helps 'my state of mind' 😉 Thx, Prof.
Green-Eyed Lady scared me as a kid. It's a creepy sounding song, so much that they used the base line as the opening music on a local Saturday night creature feature show.
In '70 & '71, Sugarloaf was one of my favorite bands.......Jerry Corbetta is one of the most underrated keyboard players of all time (listen to "Gold & The Blues" from the 1st album). And although the 2nd album, Spaceship Earth didn't get much airplay or sell very well, I like it even better than the 1st album......not a weak cut on it.....Robert Yeazel brought SO much to the band. And......the song Mother Nature's Wine was most certainly patterned after Green-Eyed Lady. ....it could have been another hit, but for some reason, didn't catch on. The other single, Tongue In Cheek is a major rocker that should have done better, but maybe was a bit too eccentric for the average listener. I suggest to anyone reading this to give Spaceship Earth a listen if you've never heard it, & a re-listen, if you have.....it is SO good!
Sugarloaf! I was in diapers when "Green Eyed Lady" was a hit single; it has been and continues to be one of my all-time favorite songs. Ironically, I heard "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" for the first time earlier this year (thanks to TH-cam); I don't understand how it avoided me for all of these years.
Golden Earring was a 2 hit wonder here in the states. I know "Radar Love" was covered recently but not sure if "Twilight Zone" has ever been featured on the channel. Murray Head was another one with "Superstar" & "One Night In Bangkok".
Oh man, I Can't believe that I had completely forgotten both of these great 70's tunes, especially since I absolutely love "Green Eyed Lady" such a great song & "Don't Call Us" is such a fun song. They're both going on my Favs playlist... Immediately! Also, really good to see Bob still has his guitar chops in spades, he sounded great! Thanks for another great lesson Professor! 💪😎
I bought "Green Eyed Lady" 45 back in the day. I really liked the song, and since the 45 was in stereo, I never bought the album. Still have it to this day in storage.
That’s an all time great tune! Hated it when the old time radio stations would play the clipped version! Same thing with Wings’ “With A Little Luck!” They’d cut the crap out of that song, too!
Sugarloaf was formed in Denver Colorado and played various venues in the area. As a kid I lived a few blocks from a very large 3.2% beer hall called the Draught House where Sugarloaf played frequently. I wasn't old enough to be a customer but we used to go by in the afternoons and we could listen to the bands practicing as they were cleaning thousands of discarded cups of the floor. Sugarloaf always drew a good crowd but they were scheduled to play shortly after Green Eyed Lady hit the charts. The line to get in extended across the parking lot and around the block. It was a huge hall and hosted a number of big bands including Badfinger and the Byrds.
Just becauce of those two songs and the way they soung on a good system, i keep encouraging this young generation to listen to them. I am now 81 and still rocking.
@@constipatedinsincity4424 Ummm you get busted for what? A mickey in a drink! Hopefully your New Year is better than your Christmas. Last day of the year is 🥶.
I have both on my playlists. I decided to put together one of songs with "eyes" in the title, so naturally Green Eyed Lady, Brown Eyed Girl, and Behind Blue Eyes came to mind first. I came across Don't Call Us We'll Call You with an animated video of pieces of a rotary phone assembling themselves and immediately added it to my Just For Laughs playlist.
Happy new year's to all of you out there it's been such a joy talking music with all of you every day and hearing your wonderful stories and experiences and hopefully 2025 will be an amazing year for both this channel and for this wonderful community
Sugarloaf's first album is very odd, though I really like it. It has instrumental tracks of songs that you'd think would have vocals. The musicianship is very impressive, especially for the time. Very progressive sounding band. I bought it mainly for the full album version of "Green-Eyed Lady." I actually forgot that Sugarloaf was responsible for "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You." Interesting story and interview. Great job, as always.
awesome interview. I forgot Sugarloaf did Don;t call us as well as green-eyed lady. I was in high school and college when they had both come out, and I really liked them both - a lot. I would love to know more about Jerry's green-eyed girlfriend who inspired the one song. Most likely thaat has been lost to history. So be it. Cool back story, which I found veryinteresting. You are doing God's work when you pull all these bits of information out and share it. Way cool...
Always loved the song Green Eyed Lady. One of those tunes everyone remembers but not so much the name of the band. It's a good rock trivia question. Such a great classic!
I love the story of both of these songs. About Don't Call Us, We'll Call You, that title was used as a Metallica radio special in 1997, with that song, as the obvious theme going into it and I believe, into the next segment from commercial breaks. This also connects to the Garage Inc album, where Metallica did Tuesday's Gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd during the same special which ended up on the album and it all leads back to Sugarloaf.
The first time I heard Don't Call Us it has been one of my favorite songs. Through the years I have used the Beatles reference in a joke and every time I spin the yarn I hear this song in my head, which is often. I have three brothers named John, Paul and George. Before I was born my folks were considering naming me Ringo but changed it at the last minute to Thomas. For a moment I had a Starr in my eyes! I have found every generation knows the reference to the Beatles so it is a good way to speak to anyone. PS I was born before the British Invasion, but it's a fun story anyway!
Jazz Music really helped to introduce a level of Rock Music that most musicians just couldn't or wouldn't play. I had no idea of these trials and tribulations that Sugarloaf experienced. As a young Drummer in the 60's, I really, really liked playing along with Green Eyed Lady..... it was a smokin' hot tune back then.
Sugarloaf was the first concert I ever went to. It was right as Green Eyed Lady came out and they played at Littleton High school south of Denver. Loved them.

I've won bets by knowing the band's name. How can anyone not remember Sugarloaf? Green Eyed Lady is a great song. The lyrics to Don't Call Us is serious and funny at the same time.
☕️☕️🎶🎵🎶
Right. Plus for me, Sugarloaf is just about 4 miles away.
Most of the people living there probably have no idea about the band.
Mike Pinera is the Blues Image, iron Butterfly guitiarst
Lucky you. What an amazing collection of musical talent.
This is such a great song. And yes, that bass line stands up with music today. This is a great one, professor .
Rock on!
It’s a song for all generations.
Green Eyed Lady was a deserving hit but my favorite Sugarloaf song is/was Tongue In Cheek. Just a great jam. Nice interview, Prof.
2 hitters: The Knack- My Sharona, Good Girls Don’t; Janis Ian- At Seventeen, Society’s Child;
The Waitresses “I Know What Boys Like”(#62 US), “Christmas Wrapping”(#45 UK)
The Inmates - Dirty Water (UK top 40), The Walk (US#51)
Edwin McCain - I’ll Be(US #5), I Could Not Ask for More(US #37).
Such a classic!
It’s one of the greatest basslines of its time.
Don't Call Us Child, We'll Call You. Love Sugarloaf, but my teeth don't. 😂
Want to wish everyone a great new year, and Thanks to the Professor for a great year of music. 🎉
💋
Happy New Year!!
Thank Roger! Appreciate you watching!
Peace to you and your animals ❤️
I would never eat a sugary filled loaf.
I've always love that odd guitar riff from "Green Eyed Lady"--it sounds very "modern," if that makes sense.
Same!
Jazz fusion at its finest.
I remember that! From Arlington Heights!
Great interview, Adam. Thank you, as always, for your hard work and presentations.
Have a better 2025 and many years after.
THanks!
So sorry for your loss.
@ Thank you and I hope you have a blessed New Year!
What a great guy. Gave us lots of great music.
I remember both songs, but being generally oblivious, I didn't know they were from the same band.
Awesome episode! Love these tunes! Keep forgetting DON'T CALL US,,, and Green Eyed,,,,, was the same band. WOW the song factory; That's It!! Now we need lyrics!! SOOO glad you did this one!! Great Job Adam! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
Thanks for the kind words Allen!
Green eyed lady is a favorite for sure! Had the 45 record when I was a kid 😊
Psychedelic Furs are kind of a two or three hit wonder if you look solely at the Billboard charts (Heartbreak Beat #26, Pretty in Pink #41, and Love My Way #44)... Would love for you to interview Richard Butler, one of my favorite voices of the 80s!
“Butler’s “Heaven” is one of the greatest songs of the 20th century..🌹
Such beautiful lyrics and incredible melodies.
Technically, only one hit if you cut it off at top 40.
I love Heartbreak Beat!
Flock of seagulls as well I Ran, Space Age Love Song and Wishing.
“Green eyed Lady” has always been a favorite!❤ Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You” is timeless as well! I love everything about this song, and it’s so funny! So 70s! It’s been my ringtone for 15 years!!!!
Very cool!
A professor I was friends with at CU Boulder told me as a teenager she heard the band rehearsing this song / riff on her street. Great to have the guitarist with a guitar in the interview! I didn't know "Don't Call Us" was Sugarloaf, either.
Very cool!
Happy New Year, and thanks for watching!
You are not alone, one of my all time favorites.
He said hello and put me on hold, to say the least that cat was cold! Great line, me and my friends still quote it today 😊😊😊
Always loved Don't Call Us. Sang along to it many times. Green Eyed Lady was ok but never one of my favorites. Great Video Professor. Love the artist's stories about the music.
Thanks for listening!
Haha! R.I.P. Jerry.
@ Happy New Year
Aw, man! I never connected the two songs being from the same band. I don't know how I missed that. Makes me want to delve in some more. Thanks for posting!
When I visit my best friend at the cemetery. I play two songs thirty days in the hole, and don't call us we'll call you! ❤❤Sugarloaf
Wow. I haven't listened to Green Eyed Lady in so long. Thanks for covering this awesome band. 👍
Good morning, Professor and community. Everyone have a safe NYE.
You do the same my friend!
Same to you!
@@ProfessorofRock - Thanks, Adam. Q: In 2025, will you be taking your show "on the road," as they say? I would relish the chance to shake your hand. I know you're in ID, and I'm in NJ.
You too Robert!
Two great songs!! It wasn’t until I was in my mid 30’s that I realized that Sugarloaf recorded both of these very different sounding tracks.
Also If you ever put a record on the turntable and played it backwards to see if you could hear any secret recorded messages, then you will love this show.
I did that, but it only messed up my turntable.
@ LOL!! My friend tried it with a KISS record on his parents really nice turntable. Broke the needle.
This helps 'my state of mind' 😉
Thx, Prof.
Green-Eyed Lady scared me as a kid. It's a creepy sounding song, so much that they used the base line as the opening music on a local Saturday night creature feature show.
Love that intro!
It does sound kind of creepy, now that I think about it.
Rusty Cloud is my favorite from the album.
Very cool! Thanks for watching!
Golden Earring was a 2 hit wonder here in the states. I know "Radar Love" was covered recently but not sure if "Twilight Zone" has ever been featured on the channel. Murray Head was another one with "Superstar" & "One Night In Bangkok".
Great bass line in Green Eyed Lady!
I love the casual guitar strumming behind the keyboard solo.
Oooh I remember them! Funky groovy cats!!! Happy New year Prof and wishing you loads of success ❤❤❤
Thank you dearly!
Cool cats, they sure were.
“Don’t call us “ was so cool!! Sugarloaf was awesome!!
Phone # to the Whitehouse!
Freaking hilarious! 😂
RIght?
I bought "Green Eyed Lady" 45 back in the day. I really liked the song, and since the 45 was in stereo, I never bought the album. Still have it to this day in storage.
Wow. Was just listening to Sugarloaf. One of my favorite songs. It was so cool. Happy Almost New Year!!!
Enjoy your New Year festivities!
Very cooL!
@@Code.Name.V Happy new year Code!

@@ProfessorofRock Will be playing again after this!
That’s an all time great tune! Hated it when the old time radio stations would play the clipped version! Same thing with Wings’ “With A Little Luck!” They’d cut the crap out of that song, too!
Agreed! play the original cut!
ours did also most annoying were foghat stone blue ted nugent stranglehold
I heard YES-Roundabout they other day on an oldies station. They chopped the hell out of that song. Going from 8:29 down to 3:27.
@@DDKaraokeOutlawyeh that was another pne they butchered
The Doors "Light My Fire." 7:06 to 2:52. Completely cutting out Robby Krieger"s guitar solo.
Happy New Year, Profesor Rock 🎼🥁🎵🎸🍀🙏👍😃
Happy New Year Juan!
@ProfessorofRock Thanks 🍀👍😃🔥
Happy new year!
Sorta makes you think about Yes' "Roundabout".

Happy Birthday Wishes to Burton Cummings (77) AND Andy Summers (82)!

George! I’ve enjoyed your comments for 3 1/2 years now. Here’s to 2025 and many more. 🍻
Nobody ever would turn the radio dial away when Green Eyed Lady comes on! Great groove right there.
Professor always brings the true musicians to the forefront. Great interview and expose...
Yes it does!
This guy still sounds like he probably still can play real sharp after all these years
Green-Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf is one of the reasons I became a bass player
The first time I heard Don't Call Us it has been one of my favorite songs. Through the years I have used the Beatles reference in a joke and every time I spin the yarn I hear this song in my head, which is often. I have three brothers named John, Paul and George. Before I was born my folks were considering naming me Ringo but changed it at the last minute to Thomas. For a moment I had a Starr in my eyes! I have found every generation knows the reference to the Beatles so it is a good way to speak to anyone. PS I was born before the British Invasion, but it's a fun story anyway!
@@buggyapp they could have named you Richard? But granted, not quite the same as Ringo. ✌️🤘
Thanks!
Where did they get the name Ringo from?
@@Cat_Rescuer The story wouldn't have the same ring to it. (pun intended!)
Loved them.
