Doing knife making from scratch is very hard ( blade work). The handle is just as hard! 16 years old I did a introductory welding course. My weld and welding skills were terrible. 48 years old. I wrote my name on 2 bits of steel! I restored a BOWIE hunting knife blade. I have decided to make the handle. ( it's a 30 year old) item. ALCE brand. Hollow plastic handle?? I'm slowly setting up for blacksmith work. Knife sharpening and polishing. Your work is absolutely amazing! Cheers from Australia. Subbed and liked 🙂👍👍👍
Nick thank you for the video series. They have been inspiring, informational, and help for someone new into making. Hope to have a chance to meet you one day at a show. Semper Fi n Blessings Brian Cornett D3-Devil Dog Designs
do you have a video on you sanding sticks, or maybe a pdf vile to make them? I have really enjoyed your videos, thanks for taking the time to teaching us new knife makers
Do you use any lubricant when sanding your wood handles? I assume you dont use the WD-40? I have had a problem with clogging paper on my wood handles. Ive tried using water which works ok and does not stain or fill the grain with oil which prevents finish from sticking. I just remembered that you do use stabilized woods which might be a different story when it comes to soaking up unwanted oils. Anyways Nick Thanks For the Super "meaty" and informative videos. You Rock!
Alec Guth I actually don't... I just change out the paper often. The Rhynowet does last quite a while though. With some woods like Koa, I wet-sand with Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil, but it actually makes the paper load up faster. I just like the way it seals the wood and the finish I get with it.
I love your videos Nick. Very detailed. I have adopted many of your techniques and sanding blocks. Thanks for sharing
Chris Taylor Thank you Chris, I really appreciate that! :)
Those handles are just beautiful.
Nick, your videos have been very helpful. Thank you
Love your knives and the detail of your work, best I've seen so far
your work is awsome these knives are clean and elegant very cool.
YOUR HAND SHAPING TOOLS ARE A GOOD SHAPE LIKE SPOKESHAVES, WHICH HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS SO NOTHING GOOFY ABOUT THAT. CHEERS.
They say,"The devil is in the details." I say you have those details down pat. Awesome work.
Another great video Nick.
Alec Steele, in the UK, has been learning from your videos and promoting them on his channel.

Is that knife-holder self-built or bought ? If self-built, can you show the functions ?
Stefan Alvetjärn Stefan, that vise something I made (I have a few different ones). I actually have a video on my channel talking about them. :)
