    The Walrider was also the cause of the storm as Blake was escorting Lynn, as it had taken over an ant colony and destroyed the radio towers.

    This is probably the most explicit sign of a Walrider - an unusual 'swarm' that seems to have malicious intent. Not too clear though on whether its Miles' Walrider (who's possessed ants and is using them to destroy the Templegate radio), or if it's loyal to the Templegate god (which would definitely want Blake dead.) Either way, it seems like it may have intentionally been throwing Blake into the Scalled in order to subject him to their sickness and delusions.
    One thing to consider is that the first game throws in a note about the 'Horerczy', the 'only thing that can kill a Walrider' which apparently spits out 'alps', takes the form of 'vampiric butterflies', and...looks like starved dogs with the heads of pigs. I don't think we see any sign of the latter here, but I wonder if the 'locusts'/'dragonflies' may have anything to do with these 'butterflies'? It'd be nice if the Templegate 'god' is in fact this 'anti-Walrider' creature.

      I think the Walrider is what they're worshipping. At least it's what one of the groups is worshipping. It's hard to tell exactly what level of influence he has over the cult and heretics but I have two running theories. Either the Walrider didn't manipulate anyone and was merely witnessed by the people at Temple Gate or he is manipulating one or both of the groups at Temple Gate to accomplish something more than just the towers destruction. And I think it's the latter of the two personally cause if you listen to Marta talk as she's hunting you she is clearly speaking to someone she thinks is God and is answering in ways that implies she is being spoken to. Especially the callback line to Chris Walker, "Yes Lord, like a pig". I think that's more than just a simple callback cause the Walrider not only killed Walker in the first game but now that Miles is part of the Walrider it would have access to all of Mile's memories, including the times Chris Walker called him "little pig". Someone else who is clearly talking to someone we can't see is Val. For a brief moment when you first see Val she answers someone who you can't see or hear. "Yes my love? Ah. We have mother." Then there's Papa Knoth himself claiming that "God has gone silent"...which some people claim is because the tower was destroyed but Knoth says that BEFORE the tower is destroyed cause that's what the exploding sun was at the end of the game. Whatever they believe God is stopped talking to them after the ghost baby was born. And I'm thinking that baby is more real than most people believe. I don't think it was just some simple side effect of the engine, if that were the case none of the pregnancies in Temple Gate would've been real yet we clearly see (and walk over) the corpses of infants and children killed by the cult with no mention of phantom pregnancies happening among the cultists. That means it couldn't have just been the morphogenic engine that caused Lynn's pregnancy and the first game is further proof of it. At Mount Massive the women would experience these phantom pregnancies, and while Murkoff believed it to be from the engine itself there is one key factor with that engine that isn't apart of the one at Temple Gate...the Walrider. It was directly connected to the morphogenic engine at Mount Massive, hell it was the only reason the engine was built. The one at Temple Gate wasn't built to manifest the Walrider but as an experiment for mass hallucinations. And while it's possible Murkoff was able to control the hallucinations I don't think they could cause Blake would be seeing whatever the others were seeing instead of being tormented by Jessica's death. Now when it comes to this baby I think the Walrider made that happen. I'm thinking that baby is actually some weird Walrider/human hybrid and the ability to see it all depends on the exposure to the flashes of the morphogenic engine. Remember, in the first game people weren't able to see the Walrider with their own eyes unless they had been exposed to the hypnotic images that Park was exposed to at the beginning of Whistleblower...so I'm thinking the towers flashes are inducing the same ability to see the Walrider, in turn causing the difference between Lynn and Blake being able to see the baby. Lynn was barely exposed to the flashes but Blake goes through a lot of them. Maybe the baby was the Walrider's way of escaping temple gate unnoticed? The comics say that Murkoff killed the ants that destroyed the tower, maybe the Walrider had already left using the new body it created. I can't imagine if it were still in the ants that the Walrider would let itself be destroyed. But I think this anti Walrider theory is a good one. I wonder if the next story (not Trials, whatever story ends up taking place after 2) may either introduce an anti Walrider or just be a straight up showdown between the Walrider and an Anti Walrider. Hell, maybe trials will introduce an anti-walrider.

    So I think the Walrider is in the locusts, but to the question of if it's Miles or not, no. I'm pretty sure Miles and Billy are both actually dead, their personalities are just burned into the nanobots. If you read the comics you'll see that the Walrider visited Billy's mom after the events of the first game but at the same time he's no longer rampaging around and is now actively targeting Murkoff. He's what destroyed the tower at the end of the second game which is why Blake sees the sun "explode" at the end. The Walrider is able to take over insects because he jumps into a colony of ants to escape Murkoff, which happens when he goes to see Billy's mom if I'm remembering that right. So he's definitely there and I would wager he's inside the locusts. Now, did he arrive right then or has he been at Temple Gate the whole time? Is the Walrider the one behind these religious cults warring over a phantom baby? Did the Walrider actually impregnate Lynn and the baby we see is some wack hybrid of Walrider and human? These are the deep questions about the Walrider's hand in Outlast 2. We know the baby "isn't real" in a sense that normal people can't see it. But all those at Mount Massive who were exposed to the experiments of the engine were able to see the Walrider without any kind of night vision aid and the entire time in 2 you keep getting blasted by the same technology (the loud white light flashing from the tower). Lynn wasn't as exposed to those flashes as you were which is why she can't actually see the baby. Of course the phantom pregnancy could simply just be a side effect of he being so close to the engine for so long but even before that exposure while Knoth still has her he claims he's done an examination and knows she's pregnant and she began suffering from pains before the Heretics took her. There just seems to be something more to this baby than just the standard morphogenic engine phantom pregnancy.

    • @darthmalagus
      @darthmalagus ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They recreated the morphogenic engine without the intention of manifesting the Walrider. That's what all the flashes you see are. It IS a morphogenic engine, just one designed with the intention of studying the mass hallucination side effects. And that's why the Walrider is at Temple Gate, it wants to destroy the morphogenic engine. Most likely as a result of Miles's personality imprinting on the nanobots.

  • @TheRorschack

    Whatever it is its THE Walrider. Miles must be part of it. But Billy seems to still be in there too. I dont think they separated. I think the nanotech got imprinted by both personalities. Cause the Walrider killed indiscriminately before Miles was the host but the Walrider also visits Billy's mother after Miles is the host. That being said the fact the walrider isnt just killing random people in a frenzy and actively targeting Murkoff MUST be because of Miles. So i personally think its all one entity working separate operations with personality traits of both Billy and Miles. But then again there may be something more going on in 2. Another viable theory is that it did split into 2 walriders and thats why there was rift between the cults. One walrider was manipulating them all then the other came in and caused the heretics to split off. I wouldnt be able to tell which one is which as it stands but if i had to guess Billy was trying to regain strength using the new morphogenic engine and Miles showed up to stop him by destroying it.
