For the friend starting rumors question (and Im a Hufflepuff) I would confront them. Because you dont know for sure this person is actually talking about you. It could just be a rumor. And if you don't know for sure you might hold a secret grudge about it leading to an actual problem in the future. Or possible the friend did say something nasty about you, but for a reason. Perhaps, you inadvertently said something hurtful to them without knowing. If they were hurt, they could say mean things back in the pain they are feeling. If you confront them, you find out the truth, you can discus the issue, apologize, and make up. Confronting doesnt have to be bad. Its much better then High School BS and rumors. Confronting is just questioning and discussing. It leads to the truth, to a solution, to the end of the confusion and hurt of not knowing, and the quickest way to get back to being friends.
