If you trade for Azeez and he continues production there is a good chance he signs a larger deal elsewhere. In which case you could net a compensatory pick
i hope we can get both. Azeez walks after the season with fat contract if he balls out, we get a comp pick in return. We still have smith to pair with Hutch next season
A missed assignment by Terrion and a run by Pollard when the Lions were playing soft is skewing those run numbers. It hasn’t been as success as 5 yards a carry would suggest.
Because the missing piece is NOT a LB. In fact, they are only usually running 2 LBs on the field in most packages and subs. That Anzalone & Campbell. It’s not that they can’t rush a LB. It’s that they DONT. The need is simply solved here. Fans are chasing rabbits when the likely move is simply found. Look at ESPN depth charts. Look at players listed at RDE These are guy who can move to the non blindside after Hutchinson returns. These are natural edge setters with better skill on the outside than crashing the QB. Smith, Hendrickson, Granderson, Young etc are all playing that role who can slide across to the blindside for 10 games here. Then slide back after. It’s truly not difficult and fans are making it that.
@lionsfan8235 You: MOar EdGe RUtSH! OP: it’s more than that. If you don’t want to sound like you think you have a clue because you play Madden, listen to him. Yes. Size matters. lol. Campbell says as much. He mentioned a DE in the 270 range for a reason. Because in the 43, the DE competes against the OT directly. He is often chipped on at the LOS. A 240 LB linebacker IS NOT putting his hand in the dirt and crashing into a 320 pound OT and fighting off a chip from a TE. 34 rushers benefit from the size of a 34 DL. Those guys tend to be 2 gap space eaters. Which free the LBs up to get after the QB. This is where a 240 pound LB becomes an edge rusher. And the Lions do not have the horses to be a 34 DL. In fact, Reader is the OPPOSITE of a 34 DT. He is a 43 3 tech who, himself, gets at the QB. I don’t know why people speak when they don’t get what they’re saying. Not all EDs are created equally. It’s like asking a power runner to beat an athletic LB to the edge. It’s schematically maligned.
I mean i know this might be a stretch, but the Jets are absolutely terrible and getting worse, if they lose tonight they might as well get capital. Maybe Will Mcdonald?
In the 43, yes. He is basically James Houston lite. People don’t seem to understand Houston is what a rush LB gives in this scheme. He is only used in sub packages where they lineup a jack. He barely ever sees the field because the 43 relies heavily on the DEs-particularly on the blindside rusher (Hutchinson) and those guys need size, a toolkit and skills to compete with 315 pound OTs. The other DE isn’t as much about rush as he is pushing the run inside, and tends to be 270 (Paschal/Davenport). This is why Campbell said he wants a bigger end. The whole rush LB thing is chasing your own tail here. The only reason they were “in” on Reddick was because HE called them. And if Holmes could have got him for a 6th round pick, sure. You listen. But beyond that. The fact people are still looking to replace 270 pound edge rushers with 240 pound LBs immediately makes them impossible to take seriously.
wait what? the other guy just turns more of his pressures into sacks.. Detroit likely does absolutely nothing... at MOST they'll grab another fill from a practice squad somewhere
I'm done with this BS. I'll believe they are going to make a trade when they actually do it. I don't think they are going to and I'm tired of all the stupid "rumors."
This is not news until or unless it is an actual announcement. Just wait for an announcement from Brad instead of wasting time posting all of this clickbait.
Since DAVENPORT was a risky signing and now he's out for the season, and Hutch is out, the Lions are actually down 2 pass rushers. Wouldn't be too surprised if Brad signs 2 Defensive Ends at reasonable future Draft pick selections. And it ain't Crosby guys. Grab the 3rd, 4th or 5th best guy.....that's more Brad's typical strategy. I would look at bringing in 2 DE's just in case there is another injury later in the season. Stock the cupboard!!!!
Once again. This is an insanely dumb point. The team is not going to expend a massive amount of capital on a guy to replace Hutchinson. He will be back in 10 games. To think they’re going to spend the higher cost for a blindside rusher and then keep someone on the bench or eat the pick for what amounts to 2 months is NOT something Holmes will do. Their plan is trading for a guy like Smith (Hendrickson, Granderson, etc) who does what the non blind side rusher does in this defense. That player can slide to the blindside and they can find a rotation of two or three right side rushers to do what that side normally does. Just because YOU want extra rushers doesn’t mean the Lions are going to sell out to get them. And. Yes. That’s the correct move for a team that will, within a season, get their alpha back at rush end.

Great point!
I’d give a 4th and 2 7’s for Smith
@@rickc1702 Maybe a 4th but not going to give up 3 picks for him
Getting both makes the most sense
Honestly if we don’t make a move I will be disappointed.

We Lions fans was here when the lions were 0-16 !!!!
STOP PLAYING WITH US!!!! 🦁
amen
I got real friendly with alcohol that year...
As a lions fan since 1978, don’t get too excited until the ink is drying on the contract
I think we're gonna get both tbh.
That might be the move.
I’ll be on Woodward with my buffs,,Pelle and gators
A missed assignment by Terrion and a run by Pollard when the Lions were playing soft is skewing those run numbers. It hasn’t been as success as 5 yards a carry would suggest.
Azeez Ojulari is better and has more unlocked potential
Why not both? DE to fill in for Hutch... LB to fill in for Barnes.
You get an edge rush.. and you get an edge rush!!
Nowaske is the Barnes replacement

@@thomaswatkins3686Anz & Campbell are wrecking shop this year no doubt
Bring in Z Smith and Arden Key
Key doesn’t fit the scheme. If they wanted rush from a LB, they’d get it from Houston.
@thomaswatkins3686 they have tried to get rush from Houston. He just isn't able to sustain the edge. Houston lost something with the injuries.
Thanks Jeff for giving informative information. Not the over the top, my resources tell me crap.
Must be Dan Thornton
@@nateearle3428🤐🤐
I like them both really
I’m with Smith. We could sweeten a 4. Throw in Houston.
Fine we get a rusher, but hutch is my concern!
Bring em both in
Hendrickson!! Worth a one
Aziz Ansari was great on Parks and Rec, he did good work in Pawnee Indiana, he's a little undersized and silly but good be a good pickup for us.
I haven't heard him namd yet but what do you guys think of Cam Jordan?
Smith on one side, Hendrekson on the other
A day 3 pick IS a 4th rounder..
Both would be enticing but zadarius still on my radar
You said Darius slay was a wideout? I think he plays corner.
#REALAMERICANBEER 🇺🇸
We need a 280 lb DE, not 245 Lb.
@GSXK4 we need pass rushers, size does not matter. They got some larger ends they can rotate against the run.
Did you read that somewhere?

Trade Hendon Hooker to Tennessee for a DE. Make Jake Fromm the new backup.
Give them a fourth and James Houston

All this suspense and they end up trading for a wide receiver 😂😂😂😂 id laugh
Will hutch be able to play just like he was before the injury?
broken bone is different then a ligament. Usually grows back stronger
Why wouldn’t he
