Honestly, they seem so incredibly knowledgeable and up to date on the current literature....and then he pulls a move like he did smooshing the la niege on his mouth and you think, wait...Is this the same guy who just told us about using the mucosal lining of the lips during surgery to make external repairs? ...but you really said it best, absolute dad with that glorious lip treatment. smh lol
Fun fact: ChapStick is a brand. Lip balm is the product. This is one of the best examples of brands that become generic trademarks. A person might say "I used some Chapstick today" but the brand of lip balm they used is actually Burt's Bees or something else. Kleenex, Vaseline, and Xerox are other examples of brands that get used as generic trademarks! OK, back to the dermatology lesson..
I thought Chapstick is how Americans call the lip balm!! No wonder no one understood him in my country. People thought he was looking for chopsticks lol
I’d also like to add bandaids, Velcro, jacuzzi, roller blades. The generic term for these are adhesive bandages, hook and loops, hot tub, and inline skates.
The CeraVe Healing Ointment changed my LIFE! I bought a double pack of small tubes to make it convenient to carry (one in my purse and one on my bedside table) and my lips felt better, looked better, with less cracking within 24 hours - no exaggeration! Thanks so much for the tip!
I have been using Lanolin, a nipple cream for breastfeeding moms, on my lips and it's the only thing that doesn't make my lips more dry. I adore it. Changed my life.
My derm got me on the Aquaphor, SPECIFICALLY the Advanced Therapy healing ointment and now they are normal!!! I've had dry chapped lips for years before this. Good luck!!!
Same with me! I use it at night and my skin stays incredibly soft after being so dry and rough before. I use it on my lips too and they are now softer than they have ever been.
Once while I was breastfeeding I noticed that lanoline nipple cream heals nipples in few hours, so I applied it on my cracked dry lips in the evening and in the morning I was amazed. Cheap, safe as it is used for breastfeeding, it is just great
A dermatologist in the U.K. recommended HPA Lansinoh nipple balm for cracked lips on TH-cam in one of her videos and I agree it is a fantastic, cost effective solution 😊
Oh but I am soooooo allergic to lanolin- it will take the top layers off in one application and I’m miserable for a long bit while it heals. I cringed to think of it on my lips. So be careful and test it on a more discreet place than your face first (maybe the back if your knee or the inside of your elbow?).
I'm happy they mentioned double moisturizing with petroleum jelly as a safe and valid method. I have been doing that without any research (just took a swing) and it worked for me amazingly without any problems so I figured I was doing something right.
I’d really love to see the close up/microscopic views of where the lips meet the lip line. I struggle with tiny blackheads all around the lip line, and I’d love to know how I could treat those without damaging the delicate skin on my lips. Thanks guys! You’re so much fun to watch!
The double moisturising is such a great advice. I’ve suffered from dry lips pretty much all my life till the last month. I would constantly apply lip balm day in day out, and still my lips would get so damn dry. I though it is the toothpaste or the lip balm or other stuff, tried so many different brands of lip balms and still the Same result. I would finish a whole lip balm tube in less than a month, my dad joked if I eat it lol. But recently I started applying burt’s bees honey lip balm and then applying a layer of Vaseline on top every night and just like that my dry lips problem was solved! There are still such misconceptions about Vaseline being harmful since it’s derived from crude oil and blah blah that we fail to see how it is actually such a useful ingredient. Also the point about the lips having no barrier was really cool to know, wasn’t aware of that. Anyway sorry for such a long comment!
I adore you two, what you do for us consumers is priceless. I'd love to have you guys make a video exclusively for old ladies like me that got started on skincare late in life
Nivea Creme, ladies. Start there. Of course, use a gentle cleanser first (I love Biossance Algae cleanser-read the directions-lol), then use the Nivea. It's great under makep, too.
I use nipple cream (lansinoh lanolin) on my lips after discovering how versatile it is after breast feeding my eldest. I used to always have dry chapped lips and years of chronic sinus infections meaning I breathe out my mouth which is really drying left my lips suffering! One day reading the back of the type I bunged some on and never looked back! When my aunt was in hospice care she was left with really sore lips and I would apply some for her even when she couldn’t talk any more she made relieved noises when I would apply it and all the nurses asked what I used too. It’s obvs an issue with certain allergies like everything (my friend with severe nut allergies can only;use lanolin too) but if you’re not allergic it’s amazing! Would love you to do a skincare video for those with nut and nut oil allergies!
Jamaican here. No winter or dry weather. My lips used to chap and strip every other day. Could not wear matte lipsticks, flaky lips while talking to people.. embarrassing. Chapstick, Blistex, Burt’s bees, EOS…I tried them all! Vaseline is my holy grail. Applied at night and I’m good for the day. So glad somebody recommended it 👌🏾
@virtu no worries👌 I also kinda like the smell of the watermelon but some how its feel to strong for me and the pink color didnt match with my lips tone, so strawberry shine definitely my holygrail
Used the lenige lip mask every night for several months, forgot to apply it once and my lips were SO DRY! Decided to quit it cold turkey and my lips dried up and peeled for about two weeks 😭
After Dr.Dray recommended the Cerave Healing Ointment for chapped skin and for lips. I was looking all over for the tube one. And after 3 stores I finally found it. But it was the big ass jar. I was so mad at that point just bought it for like $20-30 and was like YOU COMING HOME WITH ME DANG IT. and my sister laughed at me. WELL... 4 YEARS LATER. I have BARELY made a dent in it and my lips have been soft and supple since! 10/10 recommended. Also if you like diy chapstick/lip balm. It's a little soft for that but it's good for it!!! For travel in my purse I reused an empty cute lipstick tube from Jill Stuart and I get compliments on it all the time. 🥰
@@rbssselene Every day! Usually at night so that I can gently rub off excess skin and my lipstick applies smooth in the day. But I'll do it anytime I feel like it. 👍🏼also note I'm pretty much just using the jar for my lips. Not for slugging or my hands and feet.
Thanks for your post!! I have Sahara lips and the ONLY two things on this planet that work for me is Petroleum Jelly and “Lip Service” from Lush. I have tried almost everything and want to try the Cerave and I have small old containers that I can carry it around in. Lol! Wish me luck on finding it. 🤣
I've heard influencers say that there are no oil glands in the lips but also go on to say that you should "add" the moisture with chapstick. Thank God for doctors on TH-cam ❤️
I’ve been using Cerave Healing ointment for years. I buy the large jar and just refill the travel size Vaseline jars with it. When my lips are really bad, I use my Cetaphil lotion first, then Cerave. Glad to know I’ve been doing it right.
Dr. Dray also makes an excellent point about lip care. She uses lotion on her lips before applying any 'sealant' like chapstick-esque products. I started doing that, too, and I definitely prefer the results from it. I like to apply a small layer of lotion (CeraVe) to my lips, let it sit for about 1 minute to absorb, and then apply the chapstick once the lotion has stopped being slick (so the chapstick can actually be applied instead of just smearing lotion around.) My lips almost never peel and when they do it's usually my fault for licking my lips, dry mouth, not reapplying chapstick, etc.
In the past few years I've learned that I'm allergic to the ingredients in lip balm and I licked my lips super bad. Every few weeks my lips would break out so bad and it was painful. I finally brought it up to my doctor and she recommended Vaseline and it has been a game changer! Took a bit to get my lips back go normal, but as long as i make sure I always have Vaseline on me (or aquaphor), I have no issues! 🙌 lots of good info in this video!
@@sharenwiltshire8456 what they are saying is , to mix your Hyaluronic acid serum with the lip mask / balm and then apply it on your lips. Like that it will increase the hydration capacity. ❤️
For double moisturizing could you use vanicream lotion, or the cream, first then on top of that put cerave healing ointment? Or could you mix the two together then put on?
Glad you discussed becoming reliant on lip balm, but then following it up with "well, you need it..." haha! Made me feel better about the doubts I had about using lip balm so much in the winter
I think it's the first video Dr Maxfield is talking more than Dr Shah, it's so cute seeing him finally getting comfortable and coming out of his shell. ♥
I'm always so jealous of women who can wear lipstick and still have normal lips 😂. Even without it my lips are always so dry. It's gotten way better since quitting all the lip balms and just moisturizing them. Gonna test the double method tonight!
I use castor oil and it works. It's a thick oil but it has staying power. When I'm at the gym I use avocado oil in a roll on applicator and that works as well. I also use Blistex, Lip Medex. Note: castor oil is used in many skin care products. It works best on mature skin.
I have found that my dry lips has less to do with what I put on them and much more to do with my body. If I'm sick or stressed or not eating well, they dry out and there's nothing I can put on that makes a big difference (although it feels soothing and protects from wind and cold). But when I'm healthy, so are my lips.
I think when people say addicted they mean that the lip actually gets addicted to where if you stop using it, the lips get more chapped than ever. I guess I should have kept watching…I love it, “Reliant” I will set people straight. Thanks, you two are awesome!!! You are saving my two teens faces and other skin issues.
I've actually been making my own lip balm for the past few years. It saves me money, it's more eco-friendly, and it's vegan! All it is is candellila wax, sweet almond oil, and mango butter, and I just pour it into reused lip balm tubes.
I make my own too!! It’s not vegan but it is organic! I use bees wax, jojoba oil (would use sweet almond oil but I have family and friends with severe nut allergies) , shea butter, sometimes cocoa butter, and a few drops of essential oil for scent! I started this about 4 years ago and honestly I love it!
I’ve had super dry lips all year round for as long as I can remember. Once someone told me I didn’t drink enough water so I went on a water binge and they were still dry! I have been using high spf lip balm on my lips for 30+ years. My dad and my 2 sisters and I get milia around or lips which my derm said was a rare place and she didn’t think milia was genetic. We do not use the same lip products. The only thing that has drastically improved my lips is the laneige lip mask. Sometimes I’ll use the burts bees in the winter. Facial peels help the annoying milia!
My lips were sooo bad last winter and what helped them the most was dabbing some water on them and then applying vaseline, during the day and especially overnight. It really was that simple and helped sooo much. I guess it's kinda like double moisturizing? Hope this helps someone because it definitely helped me!
Yeah, I realized a few years ago that when my lips were starting to get dry, and I was unconsciously licking my lips, if I licked them then immediately put on lip balm it would be a lot more comfortable. Of course that's my technique when I'm outside, but I usually don't feel like I have dry lips when I'm inside.
I put the same face serum on my lips the same way as my face, and while it’s still wet, I apply my face cream over both my face and lips. Works so well!!! I’m allergic to petroleum jelly 😩 I know for sure it would be the best thing ever for them though!!!
@@sm3675 Thankfully, when I caught myself it's not bad yet, they are starting to get dry. Slightly. In 2 hours with lip balm, the dryness is already gone.
@@metropolitankreyole I was a chronic lip licker as a kid, I don't know that I'd recommend forcing this treatment on a child, but I can say outside of the traumatic circumstances, it did work, both to heal my extremely damaged face (I looked like a clown) and break the habit. For context, I was traumatically abused as a child, and my lip-licking was a behaviour I developed as a result of that, so it was intensely chronic. I was taken to a Doctor because it was so bad and my face was red raw a good centimetre around the entire perimeter of my lips and most of the way down my chin (I have a charming school photo depicting this sorry mess) and my skin was cracked and peeling all around my mouth. In the UK we have this cream called germoline, which is like antiseptic for wound healing but also mildly analgesic(numbing). It tastes vile and it smells faintly of dettol (in a manner I personally find comforting, but my partner hates). Anyways, I had this cream applied to my poor lips and lower face at least three times a day for what felt like months, but I imagine was maybe a month, maybe two. Whilst it worked it's magic healing my face and actually providing numbing relief so I was feeling less compelled to lick or touch it, it also tasted fucking terrible and anytime I licked I was sharply rewarded with the nasty bitter taste, which helped to eventually break the habit. Another brand we have is savlon, which is almost the same product, but with no numbing agents and a little less thick than germoline, but it does also not taste very nice and should yield similar if slightly less effective results. If you can't get either wherever you are from, I am fairly confident your local pharmacy will have a cream that has the same properties under a different brand. I will also add, that because the root of my problematic behaviour wasn't addressed, while I did stop lip licking, I suspect this is around the time I started to grind my teeth - a habit I still do when stressed to this day and have ruined my molars doing (before liplicking, I had been biting myself, circa aged 5, something I have no memory of, but is documented in my children's services file. Each time, only the behaviour was addressed, so I simply adapted and found a new outlet/coping mechanism). All this to say: If lip licking is a serious compulsion, treat that, but also consider seeking some therapy to address the root cause, so you don't just subconsciously find a new maladaptive coping mechanism (and also you deserve to have the tools to develop healthy coping mechanisms and outlets and to work through and/or let go of whatever it is that's living in your brain without paying you rent). :)
My Mom is addicted to lip balm. I have never seen anyone use as much lip balm as my mother. My 10 year old autistic son has EXTREMELY chapped and peeling lips. It’s severe, plain and simple. I tend to lean toward more nature sourced products for his lips because of the autism and his tendency towards sensory type issues and eating the products. Thank you for the information.
For me nothing works better than classic rich Nivea cream. It literally repairs and heals lips by nourishing them like nothing else. Before I tried almond, coconut oil, cocoa and Shea butter, Vaseline, but old blue Nivea beats them all 👍
I just picked up the Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask on sale (thank you TJ Maxx!) and it has made SUCH a difference on my son's super dry, cracked lips. We've tried a lot of lip balms and the Laniege has worked wonders on his sad little lips. 😊
I had a lifelong problem with chapped lips, they would crack and split it was bad, so much so that at one point I was afraid I had skin cancer. No amount of scrubbing or chapstick helped. Fast forward to age 25 and the dentist says I have gingivitis. So I’m brushing and flossing, and I used to never floss. So one day, after about two weeks of strict brushing and flossing, I find my lips to be baby smooth. Then I would get into depressive episodes and not brush or floss, chapped lips came back. Another two weeks of strict brushing and flossing and smooth lips again. It was then I found, in my personal experience, that my dental health was a direct correlation to my chapped lips. I also use a lip mask at night because I love how they feel in the morning , but I no longer use sugar scrubs like I use to. I use a silicone exfoliator once a week every now and then, but I don’t need to exfoliate anymore. So I would suggest trying to get real strict on your dental hygiene and see if that helps you chapped lips, it did for me!
I use the Laneige lip mask usually a few nights a week. It was expensive but it lasts forever. I have been on the same tub for like 3 years lol. I have never been a fan of scented lip balms as I hate having that flavor get in my mouth lol. Chapstick Total Hydration Soothing Oasis is my favorite lip balm in recent years!
Ive been using the Laneige lip sleeping mask for several months and while it is a nice product,i havnt found it any better than other good quality lip balms,i also find a stick/lipstick style product easier and more hygenic to use, rather than a pot with a fancy applicator!
@@ChanelGloe i usually have a different one in my handbag, one or two in my befroom and one in loungeroom and also use carmex and nivea soft rose-i admit im a lipbalm junkie!
I love this, you guys are explaining topics that some other channels don't go into. Skin care is the whole body. I learned so much in this short bit and now I'm inspecting all my lip balm ingredients.
I can’t believe it. I found this video because, I’ve never really struggled with dry lips in my life, I’ve always used Vaseline and that worked great for me! I recently started using aquaphor healing ointment (the one in the squeeze tube) and again, no issues. Eventually I wanted something more convenient to throw in my purse so I got the little chapstick size aquaphor tube that I started using and noticed my lip was becoming extremely dry and would peel and it didn’t matter how much I used or didn’t use it wouldn’t go away. So anyway I just assumed it was the dry weather or something but was confused because I had used aquaphor before and had no problems, so I stumbled on this video and I am realizing now that the chapstick version of aquaphor has castor oil and the squeeze tube does not. NO WONDER. thank y’all for this eye opening moment because I never would’ve pieced that one together (,:
I have to add one more thing to your list. Mint and menthol in toothpaste are extremely irritating to my lips and it took me way too long to figure this out. Now I coat them in an occlusive like Vaseline before brushing and it's been a game changer.
I searched to find your comment because I wanted to thank you. For years I have had very dry lips and they were always peeling. I have been putting aquaphor on my lips before brushing my teeth and mouthwash since reading your comment. After only one week they are so much better that I rarely reach for my lip balm during the day. Truly a game changer! Thank you!
Every winter, I used to struggle with cracks at the side of my lips. Dr. Dray said in one video that it could be due to beeswax. I've since eliminated beeswax balms and, voila, no problems. I wish Vaseline sold the small squeeze lip tubes here in Canada like they do in the USA (we get little pots, which require application with fingers, ewww).
You might not be missing out as much as you think. I’m in the us, and I find the “plain” squeezy-tube vaseline to taste a bit bitter and not as effective for lip care, unlike the “plain” kind that comes in the little pot. It seems like maybe they’re processed differently or something. It’s a bummer.
Cracks in the corners of the mouth can also be a sign of iron and B vitamin deficiency, I struggled with it once and adjusting my diet and adding in a supplement was the fix.
@@wilyMatzo the ingredient on the tube has added fragrance that the tub does not have. I find this irritating as the fragrance isn't needed and could be an allergy issue.
I've been using Vaseline for years now since I was little and I can save my lips never go through a traumatic dryness. 👍❤ I use it also on my kiddos when they need it.
My mom got me in the habit of applying Vaseline on lips before going to bed. It's a rituals I never missed in my life. I carry small container of it all the time. Works wonder
Vaseline with Shea butter is my favourite! Only took 40 years to of trying everything on the market before going back to what my mom always recommended.
My favorite thing to prevent chapped lips & keep them soft is Lansinoh. It's a product used by breastfeeding moms to keep their nipples from getting chapped. It's lanolin based & works great!
I love their editor! Makes their videos not just informative, but fun! On lip care... Vaseline has an actual [pink] lip vaseline, tiny little tub that works fantastic. I've used it for a few years now. Not perfrect but the most complete I've found to date. I don't need to be constantly reapplying, and leaves the lips super soft and soothed when cracked. I've also used the Laneige mask for a few years, few times a week. When I'm using the vaseline lip care, I don't use this much, but when I don't have it, I def need to rely on the lip mask to not have my lips cracking completely. It does feel sticky if too much is added. Will definitely need to try double moisturizing.
I was using the Aquaphor Advanced ointment. I think I used it too frequently. My dermatologist switched me to plain old vaseline. Hopefully this improves soon!
I remember having dry lips even in the summer from the age of probably 13 or so. I didn’t use any chapsticks at that time and I experienced a lot of pain and my lips wear cracked. So I started to use something that was similar to chapsticks and now, at the age of 36, I have always something on my lips because otherwise I just have to suffer under pain and dry lips that don‘t look nice as well :D
Just adding something… both of my children used to have lip eczema and dermatitis around their mouths during winter. My son also has problems with stomatitis and because of that I traded his toothpaste for one without SLS in it. With that, his eczema subsided as well. Both my children now uses SLS-free toothpaste and they are borh eczema and dermatitis free.
I have systemic lupus & extremely dry skin and cracked lips especially during the colder months. I (personally) am addicted to the habit of using a chapstick. This vid really helps! Ty. HugsFromNYC 🍎
I've been using the Tatcha lip mask for over 2 years. I live in a super dry Colorado climate, and that lip mask saved my lips from constant need for lip balm during the day.
I find chapstick to be drying, as well as other lip ‘moisturizers’. I found my remedy to dry lips is Aquaphor. No fragrance, petroleum, lanolin, glycerin, etc. I use it also at night over my skincare on my face and neck. Best occlusive! Good video guys.
In addition to these great tips, drinking a lot of water throughout the day also tremendously helps keep my dry lips at bay--and it's (practically) free!
@@Lovebirdd Yes! Me too! Even the slightest dryness on my lips I begin guzzling water and it always takes care of it. It's a good and easy indication on whether or not you're dehydrated
I did a course of accutane and left with a lifelong appreciation for Lanolin. It's a nipple cream that is usually used for breastfeeding irritation, but I swear it saved me and my lips during those six months
Wow! I have lip balms EVERYWHERE. In all my bags, drawers, car etc. In fact, if I can't find one I go into panic mode. Now I understand why. I was addicted!! Will definitely try the other products to see what suits. Thanks guys.
I actually found they now have like a 2 or 3 pack of the cerave ointment in travel tubes at the store and so i try to remember to keep one in my purse. Great multitasker for my lips and cuticles in the cold!
I have suffered from dry lips all year round for most of my life (I’m 36). No products work for me and most of them actually make it worse. One thing that has helped a bit is changing my toothpaste to one without SLS. I also lightly brush my lips in the shower each morning after I’ve brushed my teeth.
I've tried gazillion lip balm & non of them do much. I live in Canada & as soon as the weather is getting chilly my lip issues start. I replied to u to just tell u to try Paula's choice lip balm. Omg there is nothing like it out there. It's truly hydrating without any oily or vaseliny feeling. It's truly a God sent. I don't use anything else anymore. It's worth every penny. It goes deep in your lips & make them feel amazing for a long time. You apply a rich moisturizer 1st the Paula's balm...omg..the best Hope i could help😉
I had had an extremely bad case of dry, cracked lips. I also getting addicted to peeling it and using chapstick because of that. When I consulted my derm, she advised me to hydrate more, and ABSOLUTELY STOP peeling my lip. Well, after she gave me some lip cream and followed her advice, it worked! Haven't got one since.
This helped so much! I found out I'm allergic to Avocados - very sensitive to it. AND I was wondering why I was breaking out around my mouth and expanding to my lower jaw and neck in red bumps. Stopped using the lip balm from True Botanicals after reading that it had Avocado oil in it, and my skin has cleared up and my lips are happy again. Now to find the right lip balm without Avocado oil in it.🤨
Anyone struggling with dry lips (especially overnight)--try Lanolin cream. The texture of it is like Vaseline but 5x thicker, and it lasts way longer. I use it each night, as I find the petrolatum products don't last all night and I can still wake up with dry lips.
They DO sell a two pack of tiny Cerave Healing Ointments! I got mine from Walgreens. They’re also great because you don’t have to touch your face with them. They’re little tubes with a small hole. Amazing for on the go and my favorite lip balm. I also love Vanicreams Spf lip balm :)
I use Retin-A & even though I don't put Retin-A on my lips, it inevitably seems to spread onto my lips when I apply it to nearby skin. I've found that Bag Balm is the best product to moisturize & counter the drying & peeling of my lips that I experience from Retin-A.
I remember last winter I really struggled with this, because I just wanted to be outside in the snow all day, I don't regret that. But afterwards I struggled with dry lips for half a year. I tried a lot of different balms, but in the end the thing that worked for me was aloe Vera. not a balm with aloe Vera, but just the raw gel. You don't have that instant feeling like your lips are better like with Chapstick, but it did really help and I could see some difference after a week.
Double moisturizing the lips is AWESOME! I use a product with hyaluronic acid and then a little Dynarex White Petrolatum over top but even dab water over your lips and then the petrolatum is great. So effective and far less costly than other lip products
CerVe healing Ointment is the best ever! I use it on my lips, face, legs at night, and elbows. I have Psoriasis and eczema and it stops the itch. I suffer from the lip licking and as a child had the red dry ring around my lips. My first lip balm was Vaseline from my mom. It stop me from licking and biting my lips.
I swapped over to NUEVE and never looked back. It is super long lasting and 100% natural. I have tried everything (Blistex, Carmex, Burt’s Bees, Chapstick etc.). I found that you get what you pay for. Most of these brands do a good job at hydrating, but a high-quality chapstick/lip balm will maintain that hydration.
I live in an extremely humid climate but my lips are always excessively and painfully dry. Could you please do a video on what underlying health issues could be causing this?
I literally forced myself into a lip balm addiction to help combat how dry my lips are thinking it was a good healthy habit to keep my lips moisturized.. definitely see the side effects of this...
the laneige lip mask is amazing. but the best lip balm i’ve ever used is the eucerin intensive lip balm. its comfortable, affordable and heals my chapped, peeling lips.
My daughter report to me on how she is feeling tingling and burning on her lip . And I hope she'll be fine soon thanks to Doctororias. I had never realised it could be so serious though but we came through ......
Laniege lip sleeping mask changed my lips. I apply at night before bed and never need lip balm during the day unless I have a cold - then I just use during the day too. But not having to carry lip balm everywhere I go has been a game changer!
Lip licking and chapped lips/chin from drool is very common for toddlers/babies. I use lanolin to treat chapped lips/faces on my kids. I figure if its safe enough for nursing moms to put on skin that is going to go into baby's mouth, then it's gentle enough for their faces. It also doesn't sting if there is broken skin.
A few months ago, I got the worst cold of my life and was completely bedridden. I couldn't shower for at least a week and I was to weak to do normal tasks like skincare. As a result, I broke out and my lips became dry, so I licked them way more chapped and flaky. It took me a solid 2 weeks to get rid of the dryness and a month to get them back to the original soft plump lips I had before. At that point I was just experimenting, trying different brands, exfoliating them, and yet the only thing that worked was baby oil and vaseline cocoa radiant oil. Now that along with normal vaseline is my holy grail.
I like Lanolin ointment as an overnight lip balm. Too shiny for day time use but great at bedtime. Although there are lanolin base lip balms the best value can be found in the mother and baby aisle. Most nipple balms for breast feeding mothers are pure lanolin, safe for babies, and they work well for adults too!
I'm 50 yo and I have all of your mentioned products (except the Drunk elephant one) in my lip arsenal. I've had chapped lips for 25 years with no relief. I've been to Dr's and even did blood work to determine a nutritional deficiency. I'm totally normal. They've looked at my lips under a scope to determine if fungus/yeast was the cause...and nothing. No one can figure it out. I don't lick them because they are always covered in some kind of goop to try and combat dryness. I just want soft, moisturized lips without piling on goop. As soon as the balm or ointment wears off in an hour, they are dry and shriveled up again. Think like rubbing Vaseline on dry concrete. It doesn't absorb. It just sits on top of the lip and evaporates. Using a humidifier and being in a humid environment doesn't work. I'm one of those rare cases.
I have two autoimmune disorders that seriously effect my skin everywhere on the body. Very dry lips is definitely a problem. You name the product, I've tried it. I've found that when I get fillers around the lip line it helps tremendously. And I don't get very much filler at all--no duck lips here. So, about once per year I get the treatment and wear lip balm. Omorovieza Perfecting Lip Balm is obscenely expensive but has been doing very well for me.
Vaseline isn't supposed to absorb, it creates a barrier to lock the moisture in. Use a moisturizer first & then Vaseline. Or try the CeraVe Healing ointment for a 2-in-1.
thank yall for this video. I as a hispanic male with larger than normal luminous lips am more prone to dry and chappy lips. I am 22yrs old and I am sick and tired of every winter dealing with this major problem so I am going to try Cerave lip healing ointment
I love the vanicream ointment. Cheap, petroleum free, and non irritating, for me at least. Works wonders on my alligator hands too! Thanks for the info.
I have extremely dry lips and a chronic eczema patch on them and the only thing that even comes close to keeping them in good condition is Lanolips. I use their 101 balm during the day and the Golden Salve as a mask at night. Lanolin doesn't work for everyone, but can't recommend it enough for those who can! The Cerave ointment also works but is too slippy to stay on for me.
@@BabyBear046 it definitely is the same - lanolin. But the 101 and golden salve have a thicker consistency that sticks around longer. But I keep all of them around for different applications 🤣
I definitely do the double-moisturizing technique and it helps! I use either raw shea butter, or another blend of butters, then top it with something else. I used to use Aquaphor, but lately I'm using a lip mask from Handmade Heroes, which also has a blend of butters, looks pretty clean, and has no fragrance. Thanks for the other recommendations!
I recently had extremely dry cracked lips my lip gloss was making it worse so I decided to use Vaseline aloe Vera in the small tin it’s worked wonders very cheap and simple solution
This video came at the perfect time. I’ve been using Vaseline Lip Therapy in a stick balm form for over a year and recently noticed my lips were severely dry. And even though I found that balm didn’t leave moisture after it wore off, I still enjoyed using it…until I started suspecting it was just drying my lips out more. Didn’t understand because my lips have always done well w/other Vaseline products (potted jellies and the basic squeeze tube). One of the first major ingredients listed: castor oil. Now I’m sure that’s been the root cause of the chapped patch on my top lip for 2 weeks. Also have a similar reaction to Aquaphor (healing ointment & lip repair) which seems to be a rare reaction. Switched back to Lipsyl/100% petrolatum and in just a couple of days that patch is going away. Never steering away from basic petrolatum or the beeswax balms again!
@@Rociokirsten basic Vaseline works fine for me. But the stick balms is a different story. It has castor oil as the first ingredient. Which is irritating and drying for some people, like myself. Definitely stick with whatever works for you, though
I really appreciate this video. I have used a number of lip balms, I found they all made my lips worse. I found that they were all too waxy or something off about them. The edges of my lips would actually peel at times and bleed. I finally said screw it and started using Vaseline and no problem. Never been able to wear lipstick either. I’m 68 and sometimes something that has been around longer than me is recommended. 🎉🎉
I had a reaction to EOS. My dentist figured it out. I only use vaseline now. I also avoid shea butter (causes the same reaction, it cross reacts with latex allergy). I get chelitus in the summer if I eat melon. The cheltus is what started me on EOS in the first place. I read every cosmetic, skin care and shampoo label now.
Vaseline works well! I've switched to using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Swivel Stick for the last several years. It's the big tube, not the chapstick size which has ingredients I react to. I am sensitive to many lip moisturizers. I recently had lip blush tattooing and was given a special ointment to use while healing. I didn't realize at first, but I was reacting to the product. It contained pitchouli oil, which seems like an odd addition for a product meant to be used following lip tattoing. Definitely need to watch the ingredients!
I’ve suffered constant chapped lips all my life, have yet to find something to remedy them. I’ll be purchasing some of the CeraVe Healing Ointment asap. THANK YOU!
I made a huge mistake spending money on the Laneige lip mask and fell for the hype. Not a fan of this product at all. However, the CeraVe healing ointment is an overall wonderful product and wears a lot like a lip gloss which I love. I also do love that Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm when I don't want the glossy look. 💋Great video, guys!
I have so many lip balms and chap sticks it's insane ... Dr paw paw over night lip mask (blue tube) is my fav I own ALL of the types and colors... Burt bees chap stick is also great... Elf makes a lip balm that super thick which is great to apply over a hyaluronic acid like the one from The Ordinary .. so if you have the hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary but don't like it for your face try it on damp lips then put a balm over it
Im left with salivary problems from Cancer treatment... my lips are chapped all the time, I started using a scrub and a moisture cream and it really helps... if I miss a day of doing this, its back to chapped lips.
Dr. Maxfield applied that lip mask like an absolute dad.

Where I'm from we call it 'Lip Ice' 😂
Its like people saying Vaseline compared to petroleum jelly. I learned that sooner than most ppl around me 😅
I thought Chapstick is how Americans call the lip balm!! No wonder no one understood him in my country. People thought he was looking for chopsticks lol
@@marichelleh1 very interesting! In my country they are called 'softeners, conditioners" :D
Thanks. im definitely in a cycle of peeling, dry, and treatments.
I'm going to try this tonight
I have been using Lanolin, a nipple cream for breastfeeding moms, on my lips and it's the only thing that doesn't make my lips more dry. I adore it. Changed my life.
Which brand please?
@@aroundtheworld6093 …..lanolin cream is the same thing as any other lanolin cream
Lanolin is amazing on the hands as well. I mix a bit with my lotion during winter and it's amazing
Really????ok... Now l wonder if it work for children. Only one way to find out. Thank you...
Where did u get kt
@@kimlopez7763 Amazon, but it's in all drug stores, Walmart, and Target.
I put that on my feet!!
nooo dont use that product it has potential carcinogen
I just discovered it it's amazing!!!
This is my night time go to. Love it! Great for any super dry areas. And a little goes A LONG long long way
I’m so glad I’m not the only one I have a tube at home in my skincare bag then have a dr lips or lanolips in my bad at all times x
I'm happy they mentioned double moisturizing with petroleum jelly as a safe and valid method. I have been doing that without any research (just took a swing) and it worked for me amazingly without any problems so I figured I was doing something right.

I literally am going through the exact same thing. Love your comment, don’t be ashamed for the ‘length’ it was very inspiring and relatable.

I adore you two, what you do for us consumers is priceless. I'd love to have you guys make a video exclusively for old ladies like me that got started on skincare late in life
Age 51 here
Nivea Creme, ladies. Start there. Of course, use a gentle cleanser first (I love Biossance Algae cleanser-read the directions-lol), then use the Nivea. It's great under makep, too.
Cetaphil Cleanser, their body and face moisturizers. Use an exfoliating product as needed-and no, never on the lips!
Thank you soo much for this tip 😊❤️
So glad to see another person who has found how healing Lansinoh is on the lips. Anything with petroleum wrecks mine.
the only thing that works for me
Jamaican here.
So glad somebody recommended it 👌🏾
you could also try aquaphor, its my favorite:)
My favorite its nivea the strawberry shine one, the color is great and the smell is good also
@virtu no worries👌 I also kinda like the smell of the watermelon but some how its feel to strong for me and the pink color didnt match with my lips tone, so strawberry shine definitely my holygrail
I do the same as you but the next day, my lips are dryer!! 😌
Vaseline is the 🐐
Used the lenige lip mask every night for several months, forgot to apply it once and my lips were SO DRY!
I want to try that for the winter. Also, blistex healing ointment is good too.
I found the blue tube at Walgreens. 😁 about $10. I use it every night, and Chapstick with SPF during the day.
I have dry lips throughout the year, and considering purchasing one. I'm curious how often you apply them now after 4 years of treatment??
What about 8 HR cream? My favorite
Thank you. I will definitely try this.😊
@@yulandatross3110 :D I hope it works well for you like it does for me!
In the past few years I've learned that I'm allergic to the ingredients in lip balm and I licked my lips super bad. Every few weeks my lips would break out so bad and it was painful.
Paulas choice lip balm in the jar is my holy grail and not over priced stays on all night and day!
I need to try this
I have been using O’keeffe’s lip repair while on accutane and it works sooooooo good
I have found that my dry lips has less to do with what I put on them and much more to do with my body.
@@metropolitankreyole saliva can make it even worse. Try to not lick your lips. I have a lot experiences with dry lips.

Hi! I just started using vaseline for my dry lips. Can you share your routine? Do you add sone kind of lip moisturiser before? Thanks ^^
I have to add one more thing to your list. Mint and menthol in toothpaste are extremely irritating to my lips and it took me way too long to figure this out. Now I coat them in an occlusive like Vaseline before brushing and it's been a game changer.
I think this might be my issue too! I even get cracked mouth corners from toothpaste lately :( Will try to put on Vaseline beforehand.
I searched to find your comment because I wanted to thank you. For years I have had very dry lips and they were always peeling. Vaseline lip therapy or Vaseline petroleum jelly? Please respond. I think i have the same problem😭😭
Cracked corners of lips is usually Angular Cheilitis
@@wilyMatzo the ingredient on the tube has added fragrance that the tub does not have. I find this irritating as the fragrance isn't needed and could be an allergy issue.

It's lanolin based & works great!
lanolin is all I use when my lips are struggling !!! and I put it on every single night before bed.

Toothpaste allergies are very common. Try using a kids toothpaste (for mild flavor) without SLS.

I used the Laneige sleeping mask after watching this, it’s FANTASTIC! The chapping has gone and I now have smooth lips, thank you. ❤️❤️
Please do you mean aquaphor lip ointment with spf or the other.... which one exactly?
You guys are so much fun!!! I use cerave ointment and top it off with Vaseline. This has saved my lips! No need for expensive lip masks.
In addition to these great tips, drinking a lot of water throughout the day also tremendously helps keep my dry lips at bay--and it's (practically) free!
I'm saddened they didn't mention this. Hydration also plays a big part in dry lips.
Water rich fruits help a lot also, like watermelon, etc.
Yes, I can almost always tell how hydrated I am by how my lips behave.
@@Lovebirdd Yes! Me too! Even the slightest dryness on my lips I begin guzzling water and it always takes care of it. It's a good and easy indication on whether or not you're dehydrated
Also vit C
I did a course of accutane and left with a lifelong appreciation for Lanolin. It's a nipple cream that is usually used for breastfeeding irritation, but I swear it saved me and my lips during those six months
Lanolin is a life saver!
Wow! I have lip balms EVERYWHERE. In all my bags, drawers, car etc. In fact, if I can't find one I go into panic mode. Now I understand why. I was addicted!! Will definitely try the other products to see what suits. Thanks guys.
I just love the comments on here.....they would crack me up but I now use so much moisturizer cause of you two I don't get cracks any more.
Scrub mine w sugar
I've tried gazillion lip balm & non of them do much. I live in Canada & as soon as the weather is getting chilly my lip issues start. I replied to u to just tell u to try Paula's choice lip balm. Omg there is nothing like it out there. It's truly hydrating without any oily or vaseliny feeling. It's truly a God sent. I don't use anything else anymore. It's worth every penny. It goes deep in your lips & make them feel amazing for a long time. You apply a rich moisturizer 1st the Paula's balm...omg..the best
Hope i could help😉
Buy a lip exfoliater. Instead of using your toothbrush. Their cheap if you find them in like a dollar store.
@@Niki-81811 I’ll give it a go, thanks
@@arelysarelys2515 Why would I buy something else when my toothbrush works perfectly fine? Why spend money on something I don’t need to?
I had had an extremely bad case of dry, cracked lips. I also getting addicted to peeling it and using chapstick because of that. When I consulted my derm, she advised me to hydrate more, and ABSOLUTELY STOP peeling my lip. Well, after she gave me some lip cream and followed her advice, it worked! Haven't got one since.
Peeling is my problem - if there's a little piece of dry skin, I end up peeling my whole damn lip even though I know it's gross!
ماهو الكريم الذي اعطته لك الطبيه وماذا استعملت في الترطيب من فضلك
you two are so adorable together. thankyou for making me smile
Now to find the right lip balm without Avocado oil in it.🤨
A video on lip hyperpigmentation would be appreciated.
Supergoop lip balm is absolutely wonderful. Stays on longer and 30 spf
Cerave. Healing. Ointment.
I’ve tried EVERYTHING. Trust me. This is a game changer.
thanks to you i realized my lip balm was causing more damage, it was castor oil all along... stopped using it and now im so much !
I wont even try it...it come with no safety seal. That worries me.
Is my fave as well use in place of lip chai
): I wanted to try it but, they test on animals
Specifically beagles! Them not being cruelty free makes me so mad
I have the gummy bear laniege and it burns my lips and makes it more dry and cracked and it hurts. 🥺😭 Such a waste of so much money!
@@Sea. thanks for letting us know this, it’s important
Sounds like you might have had covid. Messed me up like that it was nasty. All kinds of weird side symptoms like conjunctivitis
@@didimunoz24 No I didn't, I got teseted and everything.
Try la roche posay cicaplast, and on top your occlusive like Vaseline or healing ointment, good luck
Have you tried drinking a lot of water for days and days? I’ve found dry lips are a symptom of dehydration.
try exfoliating it when you brush your teeth and then follow up with vaseline lip therapy
You guys are very informed and detailed. It would be amazing if you had some time stamps to go along with your category animations!!
thank yall for this video.
That stuff is the G.O.A.T. It’s thick and rich, but it’s not greasy when you rub it into your skin. 😊
Hey! I have a patch too! My favorite is The Hero by EOS. I love it so so much. Very similar to your fav.
Happy it works for you! I've heard good things but alot of people have allergies to Lanaolin, which comes from sheep, I think?!
Yes!! Same!! Except I use the nipple cream haha. I’m sure it’s all the same main ingredient, anyway.
Very interesting. I use a scrub only when my lips peel due to excessive dryness.
Then I slather on Vaseline for a few days.
Might be the lanolin, a sheep product that youre sensitive to
Although Vaseline works for me. Idk if should switch
@@Rociokirsten basic Vaseline works fine for me. But the stick balms is a different story. It has castor oil as the first ingredient. Which is irritating and drying for some people, like myself. Definitely stick with whatever works for you, though
@@raeana_mari Thank you I've just been using it recently, I can see progress so I think it works for me❤️
I really appreciate this video.
THANK YOU!
Just the video for this season. I've been double moisturizing my lips at least once a day, and it finally helped them stop peeling and chapping :)
من فضلك ماهو المرطب المستعمل ،وكم من الوقت حتى توقف التقشير عندك
I made a huge mistake spending money on the Laneige lip mask and fell for the hype. Not a fan of this product at all. However, the CeraVe healing ointment is an overall wonderful product and wears a lot like a lip gloss which I love. I also do love that Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm when I don't want the glossy look. 💋Great video, guys!
I have so many lip balms and chap sticks it's insane ... Dr paw paw over night lip mask (blue tube) is my fav I own ALL of the types and colors... Burt bees chap stick is also great... Elf makes a lip balm that super thick which is great to apply over a hyaluronic acid like the one from The Ordinary .. so if you have the hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary but don't like it for your face try it on damp lips then put a balm over it
Love The Ordinary Hyaluronic almost 3 years together
I use a Q-tip to apply a thin layer of the LaRoche Posay Cicaplast BaumeB5, then put a layer of plain Vaseline - works like magic and lasts forever!
Im left with salivary problems from Cancer treatment... my lips are chapped all the time, I started using a scrub and a moisture cream and it really helps... if I miss a day of doing this, its back to chapped lips.
Try Dr.Dan’s Cortibalm it helped me through accutane and later, chemo.
