      AGREE; better than Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven; Queen; this band killed their instruments, building slowly than the guitarists went to a WILD AND CRAZY finish!!! Loved it back in the '70s in my 20's and still to this day. My heart broke when Ronnie and the core of the band tragically died 3 months later.

      I blame genre radio, TH-cam and streaming apps like Spotify. Radio is too compartmentalised and that sucks for kids today. I was a child in the 70s when radio stations played everything. TH-cam & Spotify will keep force feeding the viewer/listener anything similar to what they already like.

    One of the greatest!! Depending on where you heard it live, freebird was anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 days long. 14 minute live version from Atlanta is the best on youtube. Thanks for this.

    Ok, I’m 54, married 31 years-this and many others were our soundtrack for life! Back when it didn’t matter how you looked, you had to PLAY or SING-because music was almost completely audio-radio on all the time, going to their concerts if they ever came- so glad a younger generation is discovering the gold mine of talent from our past.

The first line always brings a tear to my eye cause Ronnie just had no idea how much and how long we would remember him and miss him. This was just a few months before the plane crash I think.       Yeah, EVERYBODY who knows this song is just waiting, waiting, waiting for my Precious...
      ..thinking, "If you think you like the song now, just wait...."
      ..when the outro starts and they hit the motherf**king afterburners. It's like the jump to lightspeed in Star Wars, Warp Factor in Star Trek.
      And then their faces when the drums/bass drop out and the guitars are shredding in unison
      Usually they need help getting their jaws of the floor at that point.

    Heartbreaking when you realize that everyone on that stage during this life performance, except for the drummer, is dead. We just lost Gary Rossington this week, the last surviving original member of the band. His slide guitar in this song is so beautiful, it's painful.

      Yes. The Outlaws were another great southern rock band from Florida. One of their nicknames was the guitar army. If you like solos there is a great one at the end of Green Grass and High Tides, much like there is in Freebird.

    One of my good friends was a DJ for a metal radio station in Florida he died a few years back and this was the song they played at his funeral. This song brings back memories

    Ronnie Van Zant had the most unique stage presence....the very slow mellow walking around with the mic stand....heard it called Stalking the Stage many times.....this bands history was such a tragedy ....much was lost on one day in 1977 and I remember it well

    I'm 59 and these guys are Royalty to me. Like disciples. I was blown away to hear you had not heard this and didn't know Sweet Home Alabama was by them! 0-o. I've seen them in concert pre plane crash 7 times. I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when the news hit, I can tell you what the coming weeks were like. There has never been anyone, any band like them and there never will be. This was when music was good and pure. I'm blessed to have lived during this time!!!

    You picked the right live version @ Oakland Coliseum '77. To me it's the best version of that song hands down. I bet you could hardly stop your limbs from moving halfway through the song when it change gears. I love it still even though I've heard that song soooooo many times. I still get jittery when it reaches the second part. 👻

    I have watched you reacting to this song at least four or five times.
    Being a Southern woman it makes my heart swell with pride each time I watch you watching this video.
    Your facial expressions are truly genuine.
    You were right about there not being any cell phones in the crowd. Back then we actually had great conversations with family, friends and even strangers.
    Most of the people that were at that concert are now grandparents and great grandparents.
    I'm 66 with two grown sons that had much rather listen to the music that their Mama and Daddy grew up listening to.

      Fran Ra You’re tripping. Skynyrd was the greatest live band ever. Sure, Zeppelin was good in the studio, but they were sloppy as fuck live. Skynyrd always sounded just like in the studio.

      Carter Patterson I would call the Zeppelin covers more of a reimagining than a rip off. Having heard some of the originals, hard to believe they’re the same songs. Both bands great, in my opinion, and I stand by my statement. Cheers!

    Classic tune. Only guitarist Gary Rossington is a surviving founding member. One of the greatest and most soulful bands ever. Along with the allman brothers band, they are the greatest southern rock bands ever.

    Best Southern rock band of all time.
    A time in life when you could go to a concert with some beers, & kicked back and enjoy life with friends. So glad I grew up in that era. My 14 yr old grandson only listens to classic rock. Grandma & grandson dance around to the same music. Love it.
