    This actor is very believable all the way from the 'playa', then the bluster, to the deflated/manic _"I notice it",_ to the broken sad, apology! Nice acting chops.

    The trickle down effect of another person's behavior isn't readily seen until the bad had already happened. John realized this when he hears The Player's reasons for the shooting and you can literally see and feel his sorrow for the whole mess.

    This guy hates being ignored. I live for that. I'm not lying, I've suddenly spoken up and people around me jump out of their skins and say, "where'd you come from?" And I was standing there the whole time. I have a gift, but to this guy it's a curse.

      Very skillful; Also the timing of leaving the room, so when Medavoy bursts the guy's bubble _"You're not a Player"._ It's no longer the really tall, good looking guy ganging up in the suspect. It's just _two similar guys talking._ So well written and acted.

      In the UK, this would be completely illegal. It's been found that telling people that you have rock solid evidence or a witness against them in such a situation can make them sign a confession to a crime they didn't commit which is why a lot of places rule against using this technique. America allows it though :(

    You know, this is such a sad, sad scene. I honestly feel really bad for the guy.
    If you've ever been ignored or pushed aside or been made to feel small.......that really hurts. I know some people will never know what that feels like, but for some people, sadly it's an everyday thing.
    It's tragic really. It hurts to be humiliated; to have your pride and dignity crushed.
    I feel that you should always try to treat everyone with respect. You never know who's just hanging on by a small, thin thread. You know, sometimes we wonder why people snap, and all I can say is like this poor guy, we all have a breaking point.
    You know, Medavoy knew what that felt like, because frankly he has been in that spot before (remember him being a bouncer?). Still, it was Greg Medavoy who dated Donna (oh boy!), so he had some sense, on some level, of being a "player".
    Baldwin would never know what that man felt inside. I mean you look at a man of Baldwin's size and you know that nobody ever made him feel small or disrespected.
    Baldwin may have come up with the idea to bring John in and trick the guy, but it was Greg that identified with him and brought him around.
    I think John Clark got the message too....I don't think it ever even crossed his mind what effect his behavior had on those around him; even indirectly.
    All in all, this was a GREAT scene and it shows the writers really knew how to tap into something that sadly, is a too common occurrence in this world.
    Be good to people out there.
    Thank you for this clip.

    • @boredlawyer3382
      @boredlawyer3382 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@attiepollard7847 Maybe, but a lawyer can help you either take down their witness, or minimize what you did. In this case, the witness turned out to be a fake.
      Opening your mouth can only make things worse, not better. If the cops have a slam dunk case against you, they don't need your confession. And if they don't, a lawyer can help.
      So, as we always say, the answer to anything a cop says is four words: "I want my lawyer."

  • @jamesdrynan
    @jamesdrynan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    In a world with less lawyers, there might be more confessions to detectives. Sadly, this is far from reality and most people know to ' lawyer up ' fast. ( Seeing some opposing views in the comments, I will say this. It's a TV show, not reality. There are many cases of police officers berating confessions from innocent people. The interviews on NYPD Blue are what the ideal situation would be, not the real world. )

    • @BrendonCarr
      @BrendonCarr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually, most people don't know to lawyer up fast. Most people talk too much.

    • @dontcare7086
      @dontcare7086 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really. Look into the freedom project. Lots of people get interrogated for hours and hours and admit to crimes they've never committed do to sleazy police. It has only been recently that people as a whole are labeling cops as the bad guys. They will regret trying to abolish the police. What replaces it will be far worse.

    • @ThomasFromTN
      @ThomasFromTN 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      obviously they did not mirandize the guy which would make that interrogation illegal now you can call that and ideal police work but there have been many instances where police have forced or compelled or tricked or outright lie about someone confessing to a crime they didn't commit I don't call that preservation of right. The whole justice system is supposed to be principal ball around better than that 10 guilty people go free than one innocent person go to jail but it's called completely the opposite direction you may think that's a good approach but wait until you're on the receiving end of Injustice.b

      I concur; as much as I love the show (and I am currently on season 11 on Disney+) most of the confessions would be inadmissible in court.
      The squad detectives actively obstruct justice by trying to dissuade the accused from seeking legal counsel.
      There is that great episode in season five or six when Bobby induces a guy with clear mental health issues to confess to two murders by offering to buy him two litres of Coke! The fact that the guy agrees to the offer is immaterial in legal terms.
      The cops routinely beat the perps into confessions. Again, coerced statements would be thrown out.
      Still, it is on of the best TV shows ever made.

      Lt. Bale and Baldwin give him the harsh and accurate treatment he deserves (Bale tells him he'll transfer him out if Clark doesn't get sober and show up with his mouth shut every day, Baldwin refuses Clark's pathetic attempt to get them to hang out and leaves Clark sitting by himself) and even though Andy agrees to put a hold on them ending their partnership, Clark pisses Andy off again on the next episode's main case. But Andy (with a huge assist from the specter of Bobby Simone) realizes he can be a teacher, a father figure to Clark. They head out to dinner and each resolve to help the other, and that puts Clark on the right path--a path that helps him be redeemed when he goes the extra mile to protect a scared murder witness and put the asshole who tired to kill her behind bars.
