Brother of the blood. we l have these feeling. some claim to ignore them some just want to be loved, or thank you for service, some like I wanted to change the world to a better place to live for my family, others in the brotherhood, know that there is no changing without understanding. but to understand we must be willing to stand up, on the wall. give a vet a hand, just by being there. smile in just knowing they are willing to take that stand. is all is asked.
myself have posted the poem every year since I heard it in 1973, after my own service. I support all veterans, close to home ,and around the world. be blessed brother, thanks for posting.

I'm not even a veteran and this will get me every time I hear it.
The images in my mind is like watching it on a movie screen. The sight of Santa knelt down by the lone soldier and crying really hits hard.
Santa isn't supposed to cry, he's meant to bring joy... but the soldier brings freedom.

I watch this every year . My brother was army and ptsd took his life . I have many friends and family both active and vets . Hardest part is hearing this as much as I love soldier’s silent night I still cry so darn hard ! I really miss my brother and Christmas will never ever be the same without him . He never got to meet my kids or wife or his own . I too battle ptsd as a firefighter. I know my bro is proud of me it’s the void of not having him physically here that hurts so so so much . His sacrifices and dedication to this grateful nation makes me so proud, Army strong ! It’s how he left this world, far too soon and not as an old man or from natural causes .

I have many friends and family that served. No man left behind has a special place in my heart. I lost a good friend to alcohol because he couldnt deal with the demons in his head caused by what he went through when he served. I knew a veitnam vet who delt with his demons till the day he died. I try my best to reach out to my friends and family serving and those that have served and make them feel that they are not forgotten. God bless those that defend us and those that didnt make it home alive. I have never served, i have never worn the uniform, but i am pround to have know those that have and still do.

As an army veteran I still listen to this every year. I first heard this poem when I was 16 years old in my mom’s car and it stuck with me ever since. That was back in 2005. At the time I had a neighbor who was serving in the army and was in Iraq and I printed him a copy if the poem. I also started to read this time and time again from then on. It wasn’t until I was in the army myself and in Afghanistan for the first time that I had the true feelings about the impact of this poem that I finally started to tear up. Even to this day and beyond I still recite the poem without missing a word. When I was first deployed to Afghanistan I read this to some soldiers during church service on Christmas Eve in 2013. Plus I still get teary eyed when listening to it. And I hope it’ll continue to stay with me

    This always makes me cry.
It is a beautiful poem and the narration is wonderfully done.
It was written by a former Marine who later became a
    priest and his daughter.
I commend you for speaking out and letting loved ones and friends know to check on those who may be suffering.
I think you are helping your fellow brothers and sisters as well, letting them know that you understand their struggle.
    God Bless you.

This makes me cry every time also. Inside AND Out. I feel sorry for the soldiers who can't come home to their families for Christmas. They deserve more than fighting for freedom, their country, and their families. They deserve to be with their families around the holidays

I'm a British Army Veteran & every time I hear this poem, I can't help allowing a tear or two to start flowing.
It really is one of the most fantastic & touching poems I've ever heard.
To all those who are currently serving (both British & American) & to all Veterans....
    Thank you for your service.

My grandfather was a Marine, Sadly the things he went through in his service changed him to the point he ended up burning bridges with most of his family and nobody really tried to mend them until I was a teen. Sadly he never spoke about his service and we knew nothing about it until a small number of men who served with him spoke with us at his funeral. So to Gunnery Sergeant Emil
"O'bie" O'Bryant: Thank you grandpa for your service. I wish we'd had more time with you and hadn't lost so much time over family squabbles, and I'm sorry for all the holidays we missed that you spent alone.

Well said. Not to mention the divorce/ separation rate is astronomically high in our community so many of our brothers and sisters also don't have their family around (I never married), which is all the more stressful and painful. The local VFW's usually have some kind of thing going on, would be nice to see WWP and other orgs get dinner events going on the reg for the season to also give a chance for our people to get together and spend some quality time.
I also like to visit the local zoo and animal shelters on the holidays where able (and if i'm not working) alongside visiting Veterans in the VA (that's been harder because of the kung-flu bs) who don't have family that visit. Always something good to do for our people.

I’m 24 unfortunately can’t serve due to mental health and after finding that out tried to kill myself many times bc I wasn’t able to serve due to the stories I heard of men doing it in world war 2 when found to be 4F. My cousin who served and is still serving pulled me aside the last time and told me that he’s happy I’m not in bc the demons he faces from the invasion of Iraq to the withdrawal of Afghanistan made me realize it’s okay. I notice every holiday he has been able to spend with us mostly the last 5 years being in garrison he’ll have dinner go to a chair and sit there silently with beer in his hand a cigarette in the other and notice tears in his eyes I don’t say anything I know what he’s thinking about I just sit there with him being the only one in the family that knows everything about his time at war the men he’s lost the lives he’s taken and the atrocities he’s seen. Now I just try to hear his stories sometimes about combat sometimes about the stupid times at the barracks partying with his other marines it’s therapy for him and to any veteran that wants to talk or have someone listen that’s how I make up for not wearing out nations cloth. So if anyone needs someone to shut up and listen please do so bc it’s the least I as a civilian can do.

I am a firm believer that we all have a calling. No matter if it’s from a belief in God or not. We are all here to serve some sort of purpose. It is hard for most combat veterans to find someone they will confide in. You are a good man for what you do for your cousin! I hate that you go through what you do but everything happens for a reason my friend. I appreciate what you do and I hope to heard many more good stories from you in the future!

From a veteran….its great you sit with him and you two have each other! It shows the love you have for him. Someday, though, please let him know your listening and you hear him. No matter what he says…..let him him talk. He needs that weight lifted off.❤

Army 78-92 I listen to this every year as well as another titled A Deck of Cards.
Did 10 years in West Germany 4 stateside. When I listened to this poem I think of brother and the Homeless Veterans that are living on the streets to this day. That's what really hurts.

I don’t feel much reason to celebrate holidays, anymore. This is the only thing I listen to for my holidays. Preferably choosing to stand duty so my fellow sailors could be with their families for the holidays was what was most important to me. ❤️🤍💙🫡 US Navy 2001-2016
