Damn, i miss the Ableton Piano roll. Not because of the new generative stuff in 12, but simply because you can't accidentally grab that (almost) completely useless "note selection range" when trying to adjust the length of selected notes. Also the highlighting of selected notes is less distracting in Ableton (no vertical background 'spotlight'). Sometimes it's the most simple visual and workflow things which matter the most to me. :) Dear Bitwig, please listen :D
holy shait, that thing is so annoying i don't understand why it has to be like this..... they could at least not make it selectable on sides of notes, that would be a million times better, a trillion times better would be to make it not selectable at all, but hey, we gotta choose our poison and mine is Bitwig thats for sure :)
Many thanks for this mucho helpful and creativity opening tutorial. And yes for your q, I would find Logic-Ableton integration's magics tutorial helpful as much.

You’re most welcome! Happy creating ❤️ Will make the Logic one soon too
The piano roll in Bitwig really is its biggest weakness. It's perplexing and a little frustrating that the Bitwig devs keep adding more of what is already there (we don't need another distortion or filter type) but ignore adding the "quality of life" features to the piano roll that are almost standard now. Please, can we make 5.3 the "OMG, the piano roll is amazing now" update?
@@kevinkearney3836 Tbh, I probably won't use the workflow enhancements but I'm sure some users are excited about it. But really, this is the sort of thing I'm talking about. Everything you can now do using a keyboard, you could already do with a mouse to a large extent. It's a workflow buff for maybe 50% of users but it doesn't extend the capabilities of the piano roll in the way that Ableton has just done. It makes the piano roll easier to use but it doesn't make it more useful. Maybe that's just my perception and everyone else just wanted more keyboard shortcuts. 🤷♂
that is true, bitwig had everything i ever dreamed of but the pianoroll needs to have better features like the scale modes and the swing functions that ableton has. I am sure the BW developers can even make this better then the ableton equivalent. So hopefully they will read this and make 5.3 the holy grail of midi editing.
yup, there's a program called LoopMIDI, it creates a virtual driver that allows you to do the same exact thing as this video. After you install it, run it first. It should create a new port automatically. Then open up Ableton, in the MIDI section in preferences make sure "LoopMIDI" is checked as the output only, no input. Then open up Bitwig and follow the same instructions as the video. Works exactly the same.
For a very long time I use bitwig because of 2 features. Sandboxing and midi past instrument. Sound design capabilities in bitwig is rather fiddly and uninformative so only 3rd plugins. I even turned off all bitwig devices to show up in browser. But if they will not update piano roll anytime soon I guess I’d have to move on. Using another daw just for piano roll is a bit too much. Nice concept just to experiment but not for serious everyday use.
I am blown away at how much better Bitwit is than Ableton in as many ways as it is. Thats what happens when dev studios lose some of their main talent though. Now imagine if Bitwig made their own version of the Push.

Right!? I would LOVE a Bitwig specific controller 🥰
This solves bitwigs shit points - ie groove, nudge notes over api and chord/scales/gen - while using global macros, free routing and modulation- win win.
as for me, it is absolutely unnecessary. and yes, at first I also thought that the function was interesting, but in fact, it's time to play. But thanks anyway, maybe it will be useful to someone.
You're back! Great to see you! Your videos convinced me to buy Bitwig a few days ago.
I’m getting settled in! I am looking forward to getting my studio set up and having some consistency with video making again. ❤️

For real! I already emailed Bitwig about this, please do so too!

Welcome back! My favourite teacher is home! (Polarity who?)...seemed like ages but only a month or so? Great lesson as usual!
Thanks! 😃 I’m excited to be back and getting back into the flow of things. Much love to you friend 🙏🏻

I live in Texas. Unless it's January, or a special situation, like riding a horse to Walmart...pants are a heat-stroke risk.
Hi good man, I hate mosquitoes too, can you do a tutorial of how to delete all the mosquitoes without ctrl x plz?
Definitely interested in the Logic crossover vid(s?)
You’ve got it! Coming soon 🤙🏻
Welcome back Tache!

Is there a way to use ableton effects f.e. Beat Repeat on the MIDI channel in Ableton and send that output to bitwig?
Thanks for the demonstration. Yes please, to IAC with logic.
You’re most welcome!
wow. brilliant video. there is no latency? I'll have to try this out!
None - it’s literally bang on - I couldn’t believe it
this video is savage on so many levels haha
I missed out on a prime Basic Instinct moment
Nice video... but Bitwig developers should update their piano roll editor to include features from Live and FL Studio
I agree totally 💯

They did just add a pantsload of mouseless workflow enhancements to be fair. Ableton didn’t even have vertical zoom key commands until v9 or 10!!!

Anyway to do this on a windows machine?
Not that I know of. I’ve always been on the dark side 🍏
All good man, really happy to see you uploading again. Found your channel late before your news. Congrats on the class btw!

If you don't find it because the name is super generic, search for this: "Tobias Erichsen LoopMIDI"
Put this text in a search engine: "Connecting DAWs Together With Connector!". It's a device/plugin from Blue Cat Audio.
n0ice 👍
Woow this is really cool!
But how does this work on windows?
Edit: just saw the comment down below, LoopMIDI is the thing for windows :)

What's the point? I don't think I ever used those device in Live 12.
Also, your mic is ringing high-freqs.
Lastly, wear some pants.
I like using them, I don’t have a bunch of high quality gear here and it’s much too hot for pants. Thank you for your comment Artur 🤙🏻
You're welcome ;)
Glad to see you back.
Hopefully the weather gets more bearable soon!
@@Artek604 Glad to be back! The rains are actually bloody lovely but it doesn't half get hot and humid at least one point throughout the day.
Step one: overspend on a locked down piece of garbage device from apple. :(
Hahahaha
