In 1936 Poland has an ability to stack 4(?) autocannons onto their fighter thanks to historical power of MG FF and PZL P24. Sadly Poland has no industry to do anything with that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For the US specifically, i think it's worth going for Heavy Fighters: if you research the Improved Medium Airframe at the start of 1940 or just before, and then grab the Escort Fighters focus, you can boost research speed enough to unlock Advanced Medium aircraft by early 1941. Considering the massive airzones the US needs to cover, having that extra range is a huge bonus
The late game "I've already won planes" aren't always "I've already won", especially in mods. I played a KR game as Japan that took forever as the final battle was an apocalyptic struggle against a united German lead Europe that had conquered Russia and the France/UK Syndicalism faction, I had to completely neuter their outside resource production with invasions, and take back all of Africa, clear them out of Asia to surround them, takeover Eastern Russia then get stopped by hordes of units + poor supply and only after making over 300 factories on fighters and having a year long struggle to win air dominance was I finally able to start dropping nukes on airfields and outproduce them.
I have been playing minor nations lately and the great thing about air is that they can make a large impact on a budget. Even 3 military factories each invested on fighters and CAS can give you a powerful Air Force. I always put research on it.
If I unlock rocket rails and put them on my fighter, existing fighter groups will not upgrade to the new plane. This is annoying, and presumably happens because the new plane and old plane now have different missions it can do. I wish there was a button where you could change the plane type a squadron uses. As is I have to delete the old fighter squadron, losing all its exp, and create a new one with the new plane.
going battlefield support and putting a rocket rail in the first slot will give you cas that can beat any fighters thanks for the percentage boosts (while also harassing enemy ground troops)
I know you're probably sick to death of people asking for tutorials like this, but for someone who is bad at the game, having an explanation of the stats and how to balance them is really helpful. Maybe navy next?
The current meta for fighters goes like this Air defence>Air attack>Agility. So the best design will be the one that can achieve the most air defence, followed by air attack. My go to 1940 fighter design is 2xQuad HMGs, 1xQuad LMGs, single engine III, drop tanks, self sealing fuel tanks, armor. This designs is superior to any other, especially when you stack your MIOS.
I know some time passed, but I want ask a question, why not to put 2x Cannon II, they have just a little bit more weight than 4x HMG, but dealing much more dmg
I always upgrade the starting Me109 fighter as i research new air tech and keep them on intercept missions, high agility, high air attack and decent defense
@JosTheMan1 I know it's just funny to see Dace try to do things with navy. I had just watched is last usa game where he lost to Japan a bunch because he forgot planes on his carriers
It depends, the scout planes do get shot en route when you are trying to look where enemies are hiding their troops without fighter support. Medium airframe is great for the heavy fighters, but the ic cost is a good bit higher so should have proper industry to pump those out. Very useful for large air zones. Heavy airframes are mainly great for the long range naval bombers, i have done them as a proper strategic bomber few times but the amount of fighters you need to produce to stop them being shot en route is way too high sadly. These days i make those long range naval bombers and attach recon camera on those, or on to the heavy fighters. There is one great use for proper scout planes though, and thats with the naval superiority. Feels quite common being stuck in like 47% naval superiority, but ditching out fleet of scout planes on naval patrol should tip you over the 50% :)
wait i'm a bit confused here: is it actually better to make fighter-planes that do mainly CAS instead of making dedicated fighter- and CAS-planes? And if so, why?
Its better for your fighters to focus on destroying enemy airforce all the time than to both deal with air and ground forces. Also if enemy has high Air attack in divisions they can decimate your CAS forces. Multi role fighters are expensive, imagine making the best fighter just for it to die in a random skirmish
In AAT, cannons were buffed; the agility penalty was significantly reduced, and cannon is now the best weapon on fighters (from testing). A proven design. Cannon has a very high air attack value, which makes it excel against both fighters and support aircraft. Self-sealing and armor plates add air defense. Note that the range can be a problem outside of Europe. In Europe, the range is large enough.
Mr. feedback, what is the point of adding CAS damage to a fighter. Because from what I've seen, you can't make a fighter do both air superiority and CAS missions.
Flexibility. When you have max air superiority you giving limited support to troops on the ground. Also more air superiority over 100% doesn't give you any more bonuses. Some more fighters won't help you. More CAS will
I honestly really like medium plane fighters. They cost much more but they destroy everything and you don't have to worry about the range from the beginning.
I like them for fighting in Asia or the Pacific (so USA, Japan, USSR if you're fighting over there) but other than that small airframe fighters get the job done better.
@@FeedbackIRL I used fighters with extended fuel tanks for the first time after listening to you, it was perfect. My volunteneers ensured air superiotirty in finland and China while in real war completely covered every sector I needed. They didnt died off in masses as I expected too.
Thanks for the guide. I’m still confused about how to best make a plane with recon. Naval bombers are another type I need clarification on. Lastly, are maritime patrol planes just naval bombers with recon equipment?
Note on jet engine, the earliest jet planes were developped by Germany but those were attrocious and at some point you could easily win a one on one fight against an early jet fighter Their main ability was obviously their speed but ironically that doesn't allow them much range since the faster you go, the more fuel you burn, and you don't have a lot of fuel to start with
I love playing Mexico and conquering South America. Any thoughts on a good set up for this? I usually go medium fighters and tactical bombers cause range. You might have a better idea.
I know you just drove home the importance of specializing, but fighting in North Africa as italy, with limited industry and the need for a tank killer as well as fighting off the RAF, is there a case to be made for a generalist?
heavy fighters, USA? i use the combo bc the heavy fighters have range to match the strat bombers. was wondering if there is an optimal way to do these.

On carriers you just want to max out the stats, range does not matter as they are enclosed in the naval battles. Afaik

Its all about the doctrine you select. At the end of the video I talk about the buffs from the doctrine paths
For the Modern air plane I mostly use the most advanced regular engine instead of the jet engine.
TRUE it has more thrust so you can fit more modules

I'm interested in the numbers of strat bombing. Is it even viable?
Btw: Thanks for the vids. I really dig these deep dives!
so, the best thing you can do with the cannons in 1939... is to just strap em to Medium planes to make just rly tanky Interceptors?

True. However this was a focus on fighters
Why not make dedicated CAS planes and just downsizing the Fighter production after you won the air war?
I know it's probably a niche but is there any possibility to find old template videos from before the changes to air and tanks. (No DLC Pleb)
