    MR Abbott very happy to see you cover these lenses, I have the 25 and have been thinking about the 18!:)

      I hope this series helps you with that decision, then.

    I have the 25 and I really love it. It was the first expensive lens I bought myself, and it was a really good choice. I like the angle of view. The weight, size and build quality are great. I have only good stuff to say about its image quality, the only weakness is vignetting, which is the easiest to correct in post. Tiny little bit of CA, but nothing bad. I now also have Sony's 24-70 GM, but the Batis destroys it in terms of image quality. So if I know I'll keep shooting fairly wide or have time to change lenses, the Batis is my goto choice. 24-70 is more for event type photography.

      It's definitely got some serious optical chops. I'm strongly considering it myself.

      Dustin Abbott Oh, I thought you had gotten it for yourself. Misunderstood you I think. It's a good walk around lens. Wide, but not too wide. Fast. Compact. It's the lens I have on my camera today! :)

    I have them both, took a lot of pictures with them in Iceland. Looking forward to next part of your review! Thanks!

    My zeiss lenses go back into the 80's and I am pleased with the results I get with my a7ii using a fotga adapter. They are all still wonderful and I enjoy photographing the "old fashion" way

      Zeiss makes lenses that stay good for a very long time!

    Two fine lenses that fit the Sony body perfectly and make a compact but powerful combination. The image galleries look fantastic, the Ottawa River sunrise is just breathtaking and the Washington DC shots are excellent as well.

    Appreciate you looking at these two lenses. I have both of them and have been very pleased with them.

      They are definitely a great match to the high resolution Sony bodies.

    That 18/2.8 must be a very expensive but awesome lens for vlogging. Far as I can tell it might be the widest AF prime for FE without a bulbous front element and able to take a regular filter.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right as far as I know.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 will be wider when it launches on FE, but 14mm is almost too wide for vlogging.

    • @EmoEmu
      @EmoEmu 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And it has the bulbous front element I think? Vloggers probably prefer this 18/2.8 for being able to put an ND filter on it and the lighter weight.

    My batis 25mm is a beautiful thing and the color render is gorgeous. Lovely with a6500

      Yes - it's a nice fit on either system.

    I would love to see a 35mm comparison - Loxia 35/2, Zeiss 35/1.4, Samyang 35/1.4, Sony (Zeiss) and Samyang 35/2.8.

    • @stefantotev
      @stefantotev 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the 25 first, then the 18 and started shooting much less with the 25. In the end I sold all my Batis-es and got the 16-35 GM :)

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think for my style of shooting the 25 is the most attractive.

    • @stefantotev
      @stefantotev 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe the 25 is optically better and is great for close-ups. However the 18 was more usable for me for landscapes.

    Dustin - Thanks for the first look at these two interesting lenses. I just picked up the 135MM Batis for my A7R3 on your recommendation and I'm very pleased with it. You mentioned the optical performance of the Milvus line is a level up from the Batis line. I'm thinking about adding a couple manual focus lenses and was wondering which you would recommend - Adapted Canon Milvus vs Loxia (I know the f/ #'s are wider on Milvus)? Is the size/weight/adapter penalties worth it for the assumed improved IQ of the Milvus Lenses? Thank You and it would make for an interesting comparison video.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't used the Loxia lineup, but I understand that they are optically pretty exceptional. Do you solely shoot Sony? If so, I don't think I would mess with the Milvus lenses due to the size/weight being a somewhat poor balance on the a7R3

      The level was a little hot on this one; you're right.

    Hi Dustin, would you be able to compare both lens compressions keeping the same frame with people's face? I wanna see how much difference they'd have if you were shooting models with them, and if possible a bit towards the corners too, although they aren't lens for portrait it would be very welcome for some situations, the least it compress / deform the person would be good. Thank you again! Also waiting for the Loxia reviews :)

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll try to add something like that. I can tell you already that the 18mm is going stretch people more towards the edge both because of the wider focal length (perspective distortion) along with having more barrel distortion.

  • @Crazy41ism

    Do you plan to review Loxia lenses in the future? I think they are interesting for their size.

      I do, though it may be a bit before I can get to them.

  • @drashadibudi

    You should make comparison of the 3 sharpest wide angle FF sony E mount.
    Batis 18 f2.8, Laowa 15 f2, GM1635mm F2.8.
    People said that the Batis wins, bualt There are no current comparison in youtube, you would be the 1st

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm afraid I don't have time to bring in the GM at the moment. I've got five review lenses on hand, with another scheduled to arrive end of week.

    Very happy with your reviews ,are you leaving canon !!! because I see you are recently concentrating on sony gear and lenses????thanks

    • @Bilalizaddin
      @Bilalizaddin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did and I regretted it,but I needed small mirrorless system so sold my a7rII because the ergonomic is bad for me and got an fujifilm X-T2 with 7 Prime lenses and I'm very happy but couldn't leave canon

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not leaving Canon, but there have not been a lot of recent releases for Canon and I'm also playing "catch-up" on the Sony side since adding it to my kit.

  • @skipper4114

    Dustin why do you give prices in US dollars when you are located in Canada? Would be nice to mention both. I notice others doing this as well. Is it to get more subscribers?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple of reasons: 1) though I live in Canada it is at best my 4th largest market in terms of views (US, UK, Germany, and then Canada). Often even India surpasses Canada in terms of views 2) Canadian prices are much more volatile than US prices, as the Canadian dollar is not a standard currency on global markets and is pegged to others (primarily the US dollar).

    • @skipper4114
      @skipper4114 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but what does that have to do with it?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Canadian price is far more likely to change (and with new products, may not even be set). The US price is more of a constant, and I've chosen that as my standard.

    Dustin, please check this thread: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4137604 - I am curious what you think about the Samyang AF 14mm 2.8 vs Zeiss 18mm 2.8. I have to buy these completely blind because nobody has ever tested them side by side, there's no DxOMark scores for either lens, I have no way of knowing even their relative sharpness, and I do not trust or believe the people who post on a thread like that since they have not done any actual image quality tests.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll reserve judgment until I've reviewed the AF version of the 14mm f/2.8. I'm familiar with the EF mount versions of the lens, but not the AF version (which isn't the same optical formula).
