What I find amazing, apart from it's 21st century looks is that it was was a replacement for the Lancaster !!! This beast first few 71 years ago !!!! We had some spectacular talent back in this days.
Oh just bloody wonderful, what an aircraft. My first RAF tour was the tower at RAF Marham, Jan 80 - April 82, and watching these magnificent beasts take off and land and pound the circuit was great. I even had a four or so hour flight in one, it should have been a domestic tow line but the Ruskies were having a play day and QRA and Tansor were both up. In fact Tansor 2 was up and we were re-designated Tansor Mobile and went north, got as far as the Faeroe Islands before being turned back. The only other aircraft I saw was the F4 chick we took with us! Fantastic experience.
Worked on these years ago. The RR Conway engines are so powerful. Same engine as used on Boeing 707, DC8 and VC10. They did some impressive takeoffs when not full of fuel, particularly when we had visitors from the USAF with their B52.
I lived near the Handley Page factory at Park Street in the '50s and remember the Victor prototype going up vertically (or so it seemed) on test flights. All the house windows would rattle, couldn't hear the wireless indoors. Then, as it reached its required altitude, we all thought we'd gone deaf, as it suddenly became totally silent! A beautiful plane in flight, I'm just glad I don't have to buy a set of tyres for it - 20 in all!
Someone agrees with me that it does look like something out of a Japanese Godzilla Movie ! Hooray I am not the only one that has seen and remembered the old movies ! Thank You who ever You Are ! I want to see it fly !
An elegant looking Aircraft, pity she's not permitted to become airborne. Cost Alone would be the biggest problems, No doubt the guys who take care of her now were likely as not Airo Engines Fitters in their early days. Great scene and Thank you Guys for showing her.
The 737 tucked in by the trees thinks it's a bird! There's a good view of it at 4:05, nestled right in there. They should build a straw nest around it!
I've always thought the Victors had a hunched, predatory look about them - so ugly they're beautiful. Good to see the old girl showing she's still got life in her, even if it is only on the ground.
Very impressive airplane, has a bit of a Russian look about it, aside from the pointed nose. Did anyone notice the Victor Meldrew reference by the way? Up by the cockpit, right hand side, it says "Meldrew", as in grumpy old Victor Meldrew. As he would say, "I don't believe it"!

Третий и последний из бомбардировщиков «V-серии» («Vickers Valiant», «Avro Vulcan» и «Handley Page Victor»). Создан в рамках британской воздушной системы ядерного сдерживания. Всего построено 86 самолётов.
Lowest wing root to aircraft fuselage ratio I have seen. The aircraft vaguely reminds me of the space borne AWAC aircraft of ROBOTECH MACROSS SAGA of the 80's.
Sorry I forgot one question to ask: what are those 2 small external bulby tanks with a hole in the back? Additional thrust rockets? Thanks for the answer
Near the wingtips? Those are the pods that contained the hose and drogue basket that were trailed behind the plane in its days as an air to air refueling tanker.
Designed by Derek Meddings, the inspiration being the RTL-2 rocket transporter from The Cham Cham. Watch 'er though, one chance and Lusty Lindy will be up in the air.
And I thought only the Luftwaffe had designed 'interesting' planes. So, is this a Russian refueler, tanker? The nose art (viewed left of cockpit) suggests so. Strange, but VAH-4 (flying the A-3D) had Snoopy in similar pose on theirs during WestPac cruise, Det. Lima, 1967. Anyway, thanks for posting this. From MN, USA
@@AirshowWorld yes, just watched this clip now. Bet the pilot got all excited and scared at the same time for a moment but alas she couldn't keep afloat.
It's surely a looker, that aeroplane is. I think what it really needs are another half dozen air-inlets just to squick out the trypophobes. "Can't have enough air inlets!" -- designer of this airplane.
No air worthiness certificate due to a lack of replacement parts and the know how to keep them, the V-bombers were designed and created in the 1950’s, older planes can be kept flying as they’re purely mechanical, these are the first generation that used electronics in fact the only reason b52’s are still flying is that they’re taking spare parts from the b52’s in the boneyards.
What I find amazing, apart from it's 21st century looks is that it was was a replacement for the Lancaster !!! This beast first few 71 years ago !!!! We had some spectacular talent back in this days.
ALWAYS a TOTAL delight to see the Victor actually MOVING!!!! A B E A U T I F U L machine from a wonderful era!
I agree!
The Handley Paige to me is oddly among the best looking airplane. Something in its "straight out of flash gordon movie" look makes it awesome!
I always favoured the Victor to the Vulcan, it had more capability.
some of the cold war jets are so much better looking that new stuff. the victor, Vulcan and nimrod are just beautiful designs
USA citizen here: I'm very glad that England and the whole of the UK is our greatest allies!!!
The VICTOR K2 and the NIMROD were my favorites...💯💯💯🌹🌹🙏🙏👏👏

Guess you new my father Sqn Ldr Ted Gregory (then Flt Lt). He was AEO and regularly flew in Teasing Tina
szrsingle I was an airman in the tower and didn’t know any of the aircrew. I only ever saw the names of the pilots on the daily flying programme.
Thunderbirds are Go. What a wonderful piece of art and architecture.
Great video!! What an impressive surrealistic looking jet! Great Britain was realy an number 1 Airlinerbuilder. A strong nation. Thank you!!!
Very nice job indeed, this plane was a major fixture in British aeronautics engineering. Thanks James

The Vulcan was the most spectacular at airshows but I thought the Victor was the best looking of the V-bombers.

I was stationed at RAF SCULTHORPE in 1961 with the USAF. I liked the VULCAN BOMBER. The best !
@Alan Cogan
AND DON'T CALL ME SURELY...NOPE I MEAN SCULTHORPE...HOME OF THE B 66 BOMBERS AND KB5OJ REFUELERS
UNTIL THEY CLOSED HE BASE IN 1963.

Beautiful aircraft, still looks like a new design all these years later.
H.P. Victor, i love this Plane. Thank you so much.
Ein herrliches Flugzeug.
Toll, dass die Maschine so gut in Schuß gehalten wird.
Nur schade, dass es nicht mehr fliegen darf.....
Wonderful sight and sound of this bomber. :)
Unmistakable Vulcan style intakes and engine placement. Neat looking plane. Never saw one before.

This looks cooler than most jets today, maybe not but hard to believe how old this is. Cool shit.

OMG wtf is this beautiful aircraft?!!

In U.S. air museums we should have some fast taxi worthy planes, I can think of a few...SR-71, B-58 and F-14.
Fantastic video!
Великолепный, один из красивейших в своей жути самолетов...
Thank you Knight, neat and clear answer, you must be a pilot.
It's what I want in my hangar when friends show up for a weekend trip to Aruba.
Wouldn’t have been out of place on Thunderbirds.
I'm disappointed. I thought it was going to take off. All that waiting & taxiing for a runup
