2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness | The Most Capable Subaru Ever

- For 2026 Subaru is giving the new Forester their popular "Wilderness" treatment which includes lower ratios, more protection, all-terrain tires, more ground clearance, a brawnier roof rack and updated styling. What doesn't it have? The 2.4L turbo from the Outback Wilderness. (Sad trombone) While this Forester won't get more power, I suspect the more balanced approach will attract more shoppers, especially those looking for something more rugged than the average Honda or Toyota.

They have GOT to ditch that in-screen HVAC system. Bring back the buttons and knobs.
And its not even like it's a monumental task. Ram figured it out with the same screen
Next generation Outback will have more physical buttons for HVAC control, and it will apply to other models later.
To be fair there are buttons for the climate controls on either side
@@blackwhirlwind1245 interesting, how do you know? What else do you know about it?
@@bd103dall just search 2026 Outback, spy shots are already out, there is also images of interior, the screen is horizontal and it seems like it’s 14-inch screen, and it has 2 knobs and few more buttons for HVAC controls, as well as volume knob and tuning knob on each side of the screen.
Alex coming out of the bushes like mkbhd was not what I was expecting.
Subaru should offer a Hybrid version of the Wilderness trim or the Turbo 2.4 that you mentioned.
Make a wilderness hybrid and I am in love with it.
they literally could’ve, and with a spare if they placed that battery better. they’re always shy of perfection 🥲
HV battery pack is afterthought add on bolted to id on costs 😕 they do the same few years back on Europe markets they add uslesd 08KW hv battery which they bolted over spare wheel and they lifted luggage space floor, plus they add tiny 100bhp electric donut motor on cvt, they sele that with no service required instructions on cvt,no hv battery vents 😕 and now 5years later most of them are gone with siezed cvts cooked up hv pack this looks really similar to that layout unfortunately @nick_0
We own 2020 Forester.
This trim makes sense for me. I don’t need extreme off road capabilities, but I do like extra black plastic in places where my Forester is already scratched for road tips to nature.
I have a small child, which is a force of nature as well 😂
Softer suspension, beefier AWD components etc are useful as well.
I hope it would come in a hybrid in Japan 😂❤
Good job Subaru. Now bring back the manual controls for the AC and offer Wilderness as a package separated from interior. I’d like ventilated seats 😂
We have a 2023 Forester Wilderness and love it. This looks like a worthy successor to it.
beautiful car, never owned a better car than my Impreza back in the day, the Forester Wilderness sounds like my dream car
The looks of this version, especially the front is so much better, the other one just looks like every other suv.
Subaru should keep that front grill in all their trims.
A wild Alex 😮
Uncaged or unhinged?
Def uncaged 😂
the grille opening vs appearance of a grille hahaha still looks good
I have a 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness, and so far I love that car. When I bought it I actually decided to test drive the redesigned 2025 Forester first, but I didn’t really like the way it felt when I drove it. If this Forester Wilderness was available at that time I might have considered it. I think in many ways it’s an upgrade from the previous generation Forester Wilderness. I like how the Subaru name is embossed on the rear bumper, just like on my Crosstrek. That way everybody knows you’re driving a SUUUBAAARUUU, 😄😄😄. That embossing reminds me of what’s on pickup trucks these days with the brand name or model name embossed on the tailgate.
I do wish the Forester offered cooled seats
It does, as long as you buy the Touring model.
Was this the car in the background of the Forester video that you had to edit out?
It's possible.... -Travis
A rear locker would be great. I suggest an factory accessory spare tire holder for the back bumper and a hybrid option
That would be a brilliant option for the Hybrid. Give it the fix-a-flat kit for daily / every day driver use of a Hybridized wilderness, but let those who intend on off-roading /overlanding have the option of a full size spare without impeding interior gear or rooftop tent space.
1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Imagine Subaru offer a Trail Raider Package with a locking differential, exposed tow hooks, bigger offroad tires, a skid plate and trail camera. 😊
Given the tire is not the same size - wouldn't it be bad for your differentials to run it?
I agree this bear should be the same wheel in the same Tire
I still haven't seen anyone mention the change to the center console area of the Wilderness - changed from the front shifter/diagonal cupholder format of the other Foresters to this smaller left shifter/cupholders on the right (with a phone pocket in front of them) format. Like this version much more & less gloss black.
Holy crap, Alex actually reviewed an auto that isn't an EV!
It happens all the time! We're driving a Z4 today and a Ford Explorer!
@@AAutoBuyersGuide awesome, looking forward to both!
I super appreciate Subaru PR Lighting department. Dim press releases are kinda ridiculous when most journalists are using lightweight gear.
Little bobby and susan are gonna need to move out the way because chunky hooks look cool
Towing capacity?
Why do they refuse to put a decent engine in this thing?
5:40 Do you really need a nav system to find gas stations near you if your low on gas? And why would that be a question lol.
it is this thing called a feature... What if you are not from a place and have 0 clue where a gas station is?
@ Unless your in the middle of the desert, there is usually a gas station somewhere
Engine bay a different color? Pre-production or perhaps the white is a disguise for a new Geyser Blue variant..
blue engine bay with white exterior? what kind of cost cutting is this???????
This is an engineering prototype so it was likely repainted to white. This happens when car companies change their minds on which color they want to debut the car with
Would like if the Forester offered an extended length variant that was a little longer (out back) and offered a 3rd row to replace the Ascent. Call it the Forester Active or whatever. Also, make the Ascent a ruggedized minivan (a la Delica)
Can we get more power in the Forester please. I want to buy one of these but they are slow with a groaning engine under load. I was hoping the hybrid would help but that isn't available with a spare. And of course the wilderness isn't available with the hybrid. Sigh. The 2026 Passport is starting to look like the winner.
Rallitek. Has a rear lockeer
aahhahah aayyeee yoooo - Thumbs up just for "imitation wilderness" hahahaha
This wilderness one looks better. The headlights surrounding area designs are better more cohesive looking. The regular Forester has a piano black grille surround, so the front looked a bit disappointing. I still don't like the rear view though
like it just wish the manufacturers would offer a more utilitarian models .roof top tent no need for a moon roof and every power opt known , like at least 6 ' cargo space and no 3rd row in a car camper /overlander
Add turbo engine and dual exhaust, and i will get one first day available!
Subaru should've give this car the FA24T engine... and seriously consider turboing the FB25 engine and give that the Outback and supposedly returning STi... that will be perfect... come on Subaru... flagships do matter
Alex, Let's give a big round of 👏👏👏👏 for the spare tire. I expect CAFE requirements precluded a more powerful engine to go along with the more powerful price. 🤑🤑Having said that, the trail-focused gearing in the Wilderness drivetrain might burn as much gas as the turbo engine. 🤔
I wish Subie would add a higher trim level above the Wilderness, with at least a center and a rear locker, a tad more ground clearance and real metal underbody protection. Would absolutely purchase one.
Of all colors, why tf white. So basic would have loved to see essentially any other color as a first time view
people love how clean a white car can be. Probably the most popular car color
Missed opportunity on a hybrid wilderness...
why would you do this though??? Extra weight on a car designed for more offroad type of stuff just is not the right play.
I’m curious to know how many people who cry about the digital HVAC have actually used it before. You still have hard buttons for temp and defrost and you can voice command the HVAC from the steering wheel. Hands never need to leave the wheel.
Wanting something you don't isn't crying lol. It's simply voicing your opinion on something you wish it had . Thats what a comment section is for . Not being a dick !
You still have to take your gloves off to change vent or fan settings sometimes and the screen is less responsive in the cold.
Using the screen requires attention. Additionnally, it's slow. With knobs, you know where they are and there's tactile feedback. Screen for everything is not always an evolution.
Do people just not set a temp and leave it on auto?
Stupid add All that with CVT !
You know what I miss on new Subaru models and this includes new Crosstrek and now Forester? I have always loved that rear shelf bumper!!!! Now they barely have a rear bumper 😩 The older Crosstreks looked like mini Outbacks from that rear view body design. Oh well
I want a Forester Wilderness STI Hybrid! If Subaru (and most makers) don't create a bespoke larger hybrid engine for the Pilot, Passport, Ridgeline and performance compacts, I don't care what car maker you are- you're going to fall hard in tommorrow's emerging market. Toyota is at least ready.
There is no paint job uglier in the auto industry than the Subaru wilderness!!! Those black flat painted sections are just so ugly!!!!!
Appreciate the increased capability, but all of that black plastic cladding is a no for me. Very tacky
Subaru keeping the same underpowered engine was a bad move. It was okay in the last but I think people will be expecting something more in a new redesigned model than the exact same as before . Its will see but not as well as it would have with more power for the needed torque for offloading or climbing .
NEEDS PHYSICAL BUTTONS 😭
Subaru customers are more vegan orientated. 😅
Subaru's "vegan leather" is not durable. There are MANY accoounts of rippind prior to 100k miles.
Looks like Android 2.0 still 🤣
call me crazy but this looks like a lifted gas burning soltera on creatine
Another subaru plastic car😬
