sometimes we forget how many choices we have in fun games, that can run good without the need of a top end pc.. also you can add emulation, and that opens you to hundreds of hours of fun with more games on low end or older hardware ... great vid !
It's always nice to step back and remember why we build these rigs. I built a lot of 2500K systems paired up with GTX 670 / 760 / 960 / 970 most of the time.
Good video, i played painkiller many years ago, and I can say that IS a great stress reliever. IS like doom. Many weapons, a Big bunch of enemies, and destroy!
@@TechLabUK Exactly, that is why I can appreciate this video. Although FPS is not for me, I can still keep track of what is new and watch how great the real fps players are. Take Care!!
All these games are also perfect to play on handheld PC systems too which is what I'm doing since last week while I'm between a dead rig and waiting to get new hardware
Aside from DiRT3, I can also recommend some other racing/driving games: GRID 2 (and GRID Autosport too, for more circuit-focused racing), WRC 4 for some rally experience, F1 2013 for some Formula 1 experience (it's pretty expensive on keystores, but still holds up in terms of gameplay, really good game - my advice, if someone is interested in this game, go for Classic Edition for some extra tracks and cars), F1 Race Stars for Mario Kart-like experience, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered and Need For Speed: Most Wanted 2012 and Need For Speed Rivals should also work on a lot of computers. Also, you can buy some games on disc-drive like Racedriver GRID from 2008, DiRT 2, F1 2010 (and 2011), and WRC 1-3.
@@TechLabUK Games from 7th gen on consoles are still holding pretty well in these days :D Especially on PC, in high resolution and framerate - they look and feel amazing, much better than on consoles. On Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometimes it's really difficult to play, when you are used to high FPS and high resolution PC gaming. I can say from myself, GRID Autosport felt like completely different game, when I jumped from Xbox One's backward compatibility version 720P@30FPS (probably) to PC 1440P@144FPS.
HL2 and L4D/2 are required reading in gaming. While HL2 is the superior game I prefer L4D because it's just so much damn fun. Also there's a subtle mod pack on Steam workshop to UG the graphics lighting and textures that upgrades them while retaining the aesthetic original look. There's no surprise this machine runs these games like a champ, your build is somewhere around a PS4 Pro in terms of output but you're playing games designed to run on HW from the 360 or earlier.
I must have missed somewhere when you said, " these are the only games that can run on any pc, the most comprehensive list ever, or something like that". Unnecessary hate for this list. Keep it up. Love the video. Cheers.
@@TechLabUK Not certain but I think he's asking how to check a used GPU for functionality, benchmarking and stability. I would also add potential for overclocking and/or under-volting, and non-standard drivers for older Radeon GPUs.
Great list! HL2 is definitely the GOAT! I also loved Painkiller, and liked Tomb Raider Anniversary, Space Marine, and Spec Ops The Line. Some other classics I'd also recommend: Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena, which comes with the remastered version of Butcher's Bay (a better game than Dark Athena IMO) Batman: Arkham Asylum + Arkham City Legend of Grimrock 1 & 2 Borderlands Path of Exile (it's free!) Grim Dawn F.E.A.R. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Psychonauts Crysis + Crysis Warhead (Crysis 2 would probably run well on the r9-270 as well but I didn't play it myself until I got a 1050 ti) Tomb Raider 2013 (played it just fine on an i7-920 w/ HD4850)
57000 games on steam. You might need the very latest hardware for new games like Indiana Jones ... that's 0.0017% of games you can play because you're running a potato. If you're running a gaming rig that is less than 5 years old, you're all set.
Half Life 2 are without a doubt one of the best first person shooter you can play that still looks very good compared to todays FPS games. Add Doom 3 to the list and its the reason I Built my second PC back in 2003.
I feel bad every time you call the system Janky LOL. I found out recently that some 2nd gen boards will take a 3rd gen cpu which could help quite a bit when you get one of these “free” motherboards.
With a bios update most 2nd gen boards will take 3rd gen CPUs as they were the same socket. Janky was just termed because it was random stuff I pulled out of boxes without thought.
The R9 270 will run far newer games than this, depending on expectations and what FPS you are used too, if you want over 100 fps and high settings in everything then no, but a 40-60 Medium settings then lots of newer games will run fine.
Not a single RPG? I would add some. SWKotOR 1 and 2, Jade Empire, first and second Mass Effect (third is tad harder to run) Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. Skyrim should run pretty well on weaker hardware too.
Almost same with my htpc/second pc, Xeon E3-1270 /16GBram/7870XT, but my gpu died so i bought a GTX 960 2GB (dual fan MSI) for 25 eur. It plays newer indie games/ esport titles just fine. If someone is using i7 2600/i7 3770 with a (Z)77 mobo , you can overclock them even being non-K with turbo boost +400mhz and probably undervolt em the same time lol (4ghz all core i72600 as an example). It could help playing newer titles with a more powerful gpu. Xeons V1 cant use this feauture, havent tested V2( ivy bridge).
I really don't want to be negative but come on. No Far Cry 3 or Bioshock Infinite on this list which even runs on iGPU's. I agree with Left 4 Dead 2 but otherwise this list is disappointing imo
