Ahh you make this look so easy! Thank you for taking the time to explain the chords and finger positions. Your videos are THE best! Your passion for Dave’s guitar style shows in every video.
Carson, I bought a guitar a year ago with the same idea as you. Play every Dave song possible. Question: What are 10 songs I should start with. I am pretty solid with Dave Chords running up and down the fret board with his 5e5g/7e7g/5e6g/3e4g and so on -the Lie Jam I have down very well. I can to do about 20 riffs, but behind in time and not the correct rhythm. I understand theory, I just don't know how to count with all of daves crazy chords progressions and his never stopping strumming hand. I am figuring out Bartender now, I know 41, you and me, so much to say, what would you say, but like i said all slow tempo and noth the correct rhythm. Any pointers? I am practicings mutes, bar chords and timing every day when i can. Thank you, you have the best tutorials!
Man, I love DMB riffs. The oddball time signatures going into other time signatures, for no real reason, in the middle of the song. The quasi-arpeggios wrapped in hammer-ons and trills. Oh you got it down on the guitar? Awesome! Now...sing it. Lol!! These videos are great man! I use them to sharpen up my finger work. They really remove my ability to be lazy!
Hahaha!! That really means a lot to me. I love this music and Dave’s guitar style so much that it didn’t take much effort, just a lot of time!! Just be patient and practice because if I can do it, anyone can!
What do you think about just pressing your middle finger down to Barr the thinner strings after sliding up from 3 to 5? this feels easiest to me but I'm not sure if it's losing a bit in doing it
Thanks for the tutorial man. Next time triple check that all ya strings are in tune cuz for crazy people like me that D drives me crazy 😂 thank you!!!!
I don’t wish to be negative, and it’s great that you’re putting out resources for guitar players.. But, You really should take this slow it down (preferably with a metronome) and bring it up to tempo only once you’ve got it clean under your fingers & in time. One tip which may help you is to fret the low E string with your thumb a la Jimi Hendrix, this allows you to mute and play more rhythmically. Also the way you’re transitioning from the Amin b3rd up to maj3rd is done either barred>hmr or bent (also the A note on the d-string is unecessary and clearly causes you to stumble).. Please don’t take this as a personal attack or criticism, your video came up in the YT queue and I a thought I’d point out a couple things.. One guitar teacher to another 😉
Appreciate you, brother! Totally agree with the timing and metronome, other stuff is done for certain reasons that aren’t worth explaining lol. I’m always up criticism whether it’s good or bad! Keep jamming man!
This is one I never bothered to learn until today, and now I've got it! Thanks to you again sir!
I love playing Dave Matthews so much, and your tutorials are THE best.
Keep them coming, please!

Thanks so much Shawna!! There are few things I love more than playing and teaching these songs. Just keep practicing and it’ll get easier!
Best tutorial by far. Thank you for all of the practice and effort you put into helping others and learning these super hard songs
You bet! And this is the hardest!
It's bonkers to me that A. Dave wrote this insane guitar part in the first place, but also B. that he SINGS WHILE PLAYING IT.
Best acoustic riff ever
Really good tutorial - thank you. Tabs don't do this song justice because there are so many intricacies to it.
This is a great tutorial, thank you for making it!

Man, I would if I had the time! That account was a ton of fun but I just couldn’t keep up with anymore. Maybe down the road it will be revived 😎

@amandacurto5338 ^^Do this!! He’s not playing this part correctly, trust your instincts you obviously have a good ear & feel!!😊

ibanezadam plead the 5th and blame the tuner (not me) 😎
“Sometimes I find it’s better” to use my thumb to slide three to five on the E and play GBE with my index finger.

…I think I gotta learn how to use the pick properly before I even attempt this 😂
lol, I’m actually planning on doing a Short about pick placement/holding the pick on hard songs like this
Why Dave why😩
I say this on a daily basis 😂
