    Get another one of those "chiki lifts' and move them to the outside edge. Might help, and would certainly be more stable and easier to move. Pffff...did the smart alek with the bean comment give you any tips? Looks just fine for a cover crop...we ain't making tofu here. I was impressed with that balansa clover, didn't grow any warm covers this year, unless you count the weeds lol. I love that hortanova netting, I use it on everything that vines, sometimes I'll run some bailing wire across the top for extra support. I hear ya man...summertime in the deep south suks :) gg

    I used to have a dairy farmer as a neighbor. He used to plant Laredo soybeans for his cattle. He fertilized the fields every other year, when he planted corn in the rotation. The vines would grow head high. Deer would eat tunnels/trails through the foliage. He never cut the field edges so there were times when quail, doves, and turkeys would be feeding exclusively on the seed on into the Fall and Winter. Even if they were conventional beans I don't think there would be a problem as long as the chickens had foliage to eat as well.
    With your goal being soil building with the side benefit of feeding your chickens, you're doing the right thing by not fertilizing the cover crop. If your vines were much larger you might have trouble moving the tractor.

    I grew the King of Garden Lima Pole Bean last spring on a trellis just like yours and got a couple of harvests. Good producer with many growing on top of the trellis by the end of the summer. I was amazed at the size of the vines. They looked like they were about the size that Tarzan swung on. A pretty big task to remove them in the fall, but delicious and worthwhile.

    Good Morning from Northwest Arkansas! I have a question for you. I just planted Green Magic Broccoli seeds indoors, on August 10th and they sprouted nicely. I need to plant them in the ground around September 5-10 and I think I will need to "push" them a little bit with some MG. Question, at what point can I push them, and at what rate of application, thanks so much, so happy that your channel is growing nicely! Love the videos.

    • @LazyDogFarm
      @LazyDogFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd start with putting a balanced (relatively equal parts N-P-K) fertilizer in the furrow at transplanting. Then you can usually start pushing them as soon as you see them start to grow as they've overcame their transplant shock. I'd mix a cup or two of MG in a 5 gallon bucket and pour it alongside the plants every couple weeks.
