Coming from film photography. I decided to jump head first into the deepend of cinematography. Of course, that meant my wallet was also going to jump head first into the deep end of cinematography, to say the least. A $10000 camera is not cheap but I am privileged enough to. Have both the circumstance and the support to make it only a life changing decision, not a life Ending financial decision. That being said the Ronin Seems to embody everything I love about filmmaking end. Not everything I hate like. Don't get me wrong. I understand how to rig out a camera. But i'd be lying to you if I said it wasn't a complete pain. Yes that made me wanna go commit but with the ronin it's minimal I've also heard good things about the screen. Which is another major point for me. Cause I just despise the idea of Going through a 103 different overly complicated menus. To achieve one thing I've used DJI products in the past. And I like their customer service which is also important if I'm going to show out $899 to get their protection service. This All Being Said Once I get my hands-on it in a month or two's time. I will be sure to update this comment with Another comment
Hi Oli, thanks for your channel. I think we have a lot in common. As a stills photographer of many years, I am taking a serious interest in video. I need a simple answer concerning the 4D Ronin. What can it do for me in the world of stills? Can I do timelapse, panoramas etc. I can't justify an RS4 Pro and the 4D. If you can answer this question you will be the the only person on the internet to do so. Thanks.
Hi Pedro, thank you for your question. I would recommend for you to stick with the RS4 pro and still Camera as opposed to going for the 4D. The 4D can’t do any of that, also it is a version 1 product. Albeit a better version 1 product than most version 1 products I’ve seen. Cheers, Oli PS: what is your primary stills Camera?
@@oliscurra Hi Thank you for your swift response, that is very helpful. I am a fujifilm user. Xt2 and Xh1 with the best XF red flag lenses - not very exotic! One of the reasons that I have been looking at the 4D is that in order to enjoy all the features of the RS4 I need an up to date camera. The two that I have will only control firing the shutter and start stop video. I don't know if that is enough for time lapse and pano's (if you know please tell - again can't find any information). When I added it all up, a ninja monitor recorder, and all the other brackets batteries and so on - plus I really don't want nor need the XH2 nor another older model such as the XT3 or XT4. Getting the 4D seemed like a no brainer. I actually have the RS4 and all the accessories in my possession. Still in the boxes prepped to return. Thanks again.
No problem and I'm glad to answer any of your questions on it. Just to be clear... you want to timelapse & pano's with the 4D right? That's not possible. You cannot shoot any stills with the 4D whatsoever. It's purely a cinema camera. Very heavy as well... so very targeted for the working cinematographer or extreme passion filmmaker. Ultimately what is the kind of setup you'd like to build? Ie... What are all the things it must be able to do?
@@oliscurra Hi Thanks for your thoughts, and they make perfect sense. I got the gimbal to shoot video, I have never considered a gimbal necessary for stills, a tripod offers the same for all my use cases. But, when I looked into the gimbals for video, I discovered this panorama, time lapse gimbal feature that I have never known about. It peaked my interest quite a lot. When I posted the first comment I was just surfacing from very deep dive gimbal research into the 4D research. I now know a lot more about the 4D, and I can see that my first question about stills was essentially absurd. But, well I never thought of gimbals for stills yet there they are, well maybe this video (cinema) camera has a feature to do this, after all this is one very unusual camera. To be honest I am happy that it doesn't. I have had top end digital video cameras for work, all proper pro Canon video cameras, not DSLRs (you could get stills out of them). Out of the rat race now I live in a sunny seaside resort surrounded by stunning mountains. I aim to do some personal documentary projects. And I have already got a couple of clients for promotional videos of bars, restaurants and leisure activities. I think that the 4d is going to shine and will make these projects more enjoyable, and dare I say more professional. I have three other cameras. I will keep the RS4 for the things it can do better. And of course handheld and tripods for a lot. Your thoughts are very welcome. One thing I am adding to my collection will be Tilta Float or similar, also The Flex and a backpack. Do you have any experience of the Float or similar? Thanks for your time, keep up the good work.

No it wasn't. It's really about the camera and gimbal in one that is a priority for me at the moment. Will it make our lives easier for camera movement? If not, then who knows? Are you considering between the two?
@@oliscurra I got the Komodo X because I fell in love working with R3D raw files and placed picture production as high priority. RS Pro 3 balances really well with it, and if you wanted a minimal hand held rig as an alternative it’s ideal for that as well. I was thinking would have been dope to see what you could get out of it bro. However one must realize that it truly is about one’s own creative process and execution that is upmost importance rather than the equipment used to attain it. Can’t wait to see what you create with these tools my dude!

Highly recommend a black rapid camera strap for the 4D. Also for long shoots the easy rig mini max is the perfect companion.
