I just knew you'd love this one.. For me,just the opening lines ; "A language I don't understand / You speak, I listen, I'm your friend" give me goosebumps. This is what Eurovision is about
Jake, I love your musicality, and I knew that Hovi Star would be so right for you. You want real goosebumps? From having watched your vids, you've yet to experience a full-on Balkan ballad , the searing raw emotion they bring. Seriously, having watched ESC since 1970, few compare with Bosnia 2006 - Lejla performed by Hari Mata Hari (I think it finished 3rd) - the staging is simple but beautiful, the cameras catch it perfectly with incredible overhead shots. You want passion, you've got it. A serious wow moment - please, please, please do one of your instant reactions for me / for us - th-cam.com/video/SXlIN3mcsH4/w-d-xo.html
Ever since we launched the eurovision reality show in the end of 2014 we've qualified to the finals consistently, 4 times, Hovi is also kind of a veteran because he almost won a diffrent singing reality show. really love this song and your reaction 😁👍
nil erra still, the creators of the reality show promised it'll be successful and we'll win in 5 years time, we won in the fourth one.. preety good build up.
IMRI ziv (aka: my hot baby!) was Hovi's backing vocals and also in 2015 for Nadav 'Golden Boy'. Despite most opinions, I love his own entry 'I feel alive' from 2017. I just love that boy!!
Take out the lighters or phones and wave it! 🤳🤳🤳 Fun facts: Imri (Eurovision 2017) sang back up in this. Also the songwriter for “Toy” wrote this. Austria is next! Think of rainbows and unicorns while you listen to it! 🦄
Fredrik Stein Åkerblad which is why I think of unicorns and rainbows! Takes you to a magical place that I riding a unicorn on a rainbow like I’m Rainbow Brite!
Was waiting for you to react to this tbh, it deserved so much better! Before Eurovision this song was in my bottom 5. It's a classy song, but I'm not usually into piano ballads & it seemed kind of cheesy. Still don't like to listen to the studio cut, but the performance is absolutely magical and impactful and really creates the perfect atmosphere (the backing singers were my fave as well) and I keep coming back to it and somewhy the whole song just clicks for me. At Eurovision, this was my favourite in 2016 after Jamala. Deserved top 5 really.
TheVolterra13 Eurovision is such a huge event that a country hosting has to be able to be able to have the money to keep everyone safe. Ukraine did an excellent job...as will Israel 2019.
I love this song so much! And I adore the staging. It looks quite simple and yet compliments the song perfectly. Unlike some other performances from that year which shall remain unnamed 😂
jack we love you back!!!! this is an amazing song. the jury put it seventh!! and the compser is doron madaly who wrote toy too( with stav beger). thank you so for much for the support!!!❤❤❤
Here's a coincedence: Made of Stars was performed by Hovi Star, who participated and won an Israeli singing competition which translates to 'The Next Star'. (The song was released after he won though at a later date). Either way, I still think this song should've reached top ten. Personally, it was my winner of 2016 and it's one of my favourite Eurovision songs of the decade.
Hi from Israel! It seems Hovi did not have any music released after this. He did though take part in a local production of the musical "The Little Mermaid"
I think ESC 2016 is one of the best and most comptetive years in Eurovision history. That why all of TOP20 songs are so good. You woudnt find another year like that, maybe only 2007 and 2008 come closer, but still not enough. And this perfomance by Hovi Star... just speechless.
In a particularly catty moment, he mocked the Netherlands singer for being a nobody, singing country, that no one would remember (as if anyone other than extreme Eurovision nerds remembers even 10% of the performers a few years later, himself very much included). It was breathtakingly petty.
(And let's be honest, the breathtaking pettiness almost certainly cost him votes and kept him on the right side of the board, when his performance could have managed to crack the Top Ten.)
WELL! i dont recall the details exactly, but this year our represtentative for that netherlands, Douwe Bob, had a falling out with Hovi at some of the preparties, specifically Eurovision In Concert in Amsterdam, iirc. obviously theres press and media at those events and according to Douwe, Hovi kept trying to jump in front of the camera and get the attention of reporters etc and Douwe told him to tone it down. then Hovi said Douwe badmouthed him on multiple occasions, and called Douwe a nobody. neither accusations would surprise me, but it was a mess from both sides. sadly, then Hovi bathmouthed Douwe in an interview for dutch tv, which kind of added insult to injury. there were also concerns that Douwes comments were rooted in homophobia as if the issue was re: flamboyance, even though Douwe is literally bisexual himself. for what its worth i like both of their performances and music but you never really know what happened w these kinds of things!
That's right - The Dutch singer was a bit of an asshole, not Hovi!! He told Hovi to 'tone it down' several times and 'stop taking the attention' from him (as the show was in Holland!) - was a sorry puse! Hovi, at first, apologised (!) but then after the Dutch idiot kept on pestering him he lashed out at him (and quite right too). p.s. I truly dislike the Dutch song, although it got higher than Hovi, I still say Hovi song was far superior. The Dutch singer, however, it quite good looking. Which might explain his relative success, despite a MOST BORING SONG EVER. boo! ;-) LOL
First of all - you are so right... It is one safest places in world here and we would love hostong the eurovision next year. And i hope it'll be in Jerusalem ✡️ Hovi is such an amazing artist. His song is such an understatement entry. This song makes me so emotional❤️
you should react to Israel's golden years, 1978-1985, each song ended in the top 5. including 2 wins in a row (78-79). they're really good, you'll love them
The best songs that Israel has sent to Eurovision since the winning of Dana International and before Netta, are from 2005 (4th place) and 2015 (9th place). Btw the song from 2015 was written by Doron Madaly who also wrote Toy and Made of Stars.
I know 2014 is somewhere down your long, long road of Eurovision reactions, but you should check out Israel 2013 and 2014 soon because they are amazing, and it will forever confuse me as to how they didn't qualify. Those entries will only make you like Israeli entries at Eurovision more!
Another Israeli entry you should look at is "There Must Be Another Way" by Noa and Mira Awad from 2009. (That entry was the reason I first started watching). The live performance left a little to be desired relative to the studio, but the vocals are great and particularly Mira in my opinion - she's the only person in recent history to sing in Arabic at Eurovision and it's beautiful (the Hebrew is good, but even as someone who uses Hebrew on a weekly basis, Mira DESTROYS the Arabic portion of that song.)
am gonna badger you like hell until you watch the TRUE winner of Eurovision 1991. "C'est Le Dernier qui a Parle" by Amina .... my favourite Eurovision song of all time
It's a beautiful song, very well performed, but I think it came to early in the show to make an impact on the televoters. It did very well with the juries - it got almost same votes as RUSSIA! LOL! in any case, glad you had a chance to see it and enjoy it.................
You have to react to: th-cam.com/video/Cv6tgnx6jTQ/w-d-xo.html It's the middle act of 2016 made by Måns Zelmerlöw and Comedian Petra Mede - the host that year. It is everything that eurovision is packed into one song! You will love it!
See Jake, some of us being "the older ones" in this competition, we did not like Netta's "Toy" because Israel has given us so much quality in the past. For me, Israel could have easily won in 2005, 2008 and 2010. Check those songs (Shiri Maymon, Boaz and Harel Skaat) and you will understand. Amazing music! ❤️ Fyi, ESC 2008 song was written by Dana International 😉
My 3rd that year. This deserved so much more. I think It was about politics
Hovi sings all the Disney movies into Hebrew. Great voice. Fabulous song.
I saw this live, it was so beautiful with the phones lights and the stage looked like sky filled with stars, it looked like they were floating.
This, Golden Boy (2015) and Toy were all written by the same dude, Doron Medalie. What a versatile songwriter he is!
I really liked Israels entry in 2016, I did see the performance live twice and it was amazing :)
This was my favorite song that year...such pure vocal power.
I just knew you'd love this one.. For me,just the opening lines ; "A language I don't understand / You speak, I listen, I'm your friend" give me goosebumps. This is what Eurovision is about
Gav Taylor You were totally right!
This song should have been top 10 for sure!
Mirror Onthewall certainly. 8th place roughly.
So underrated! I voted for him ❤️ beautiful! Love from Russia ❤️
This is my 4th place in 2016, I love it so much. But Israel is one of my favourite ESC countries, I love all of their songs since 2008 except Toy.
Johan Hendrik van der Meer This was such a beautiful performance.
Johan Hendrik van der Meer even 2011? Ding Dong?
Jake, after you review all the entries from 2016, you should make a top 10 (at least) of your favourites. That would be interesting :)
Imri Ziv was backing vocalist here and in 2015 too.
This was so emotional and beautiful. Love it!
One of the best Israel entry from Israel deserve better than 14
This is my favourite Eurovision song from 2016.I think Hovi deserved top 10 but great reaction Jake.Greetings from Bulgaria🇧🇬❤❤❤
The backing vocals included IMRI from 2017
this song was so painful to listen to, the first time i saw this came to my mind my ex boyfriend who passed away in 2005, i dont know why, snif
Ever since we launched the eurovision reality show in the end of 2014 we've qualified to the finals consistently, 4 times, Hovi is also kind of a veteran because he almost won a diffrent singing reality show. really love this song and your reaction 😁👍
HAVER
Top 5 with televote in 2015, 2017 and 2018. In 2016 it flopped there and it had to be saved by juries
nil erra still, the creators of the reality show promised it'll be successful and we'll win in 5 years time, we won in the fourth one.. preety good build up.
HAVER
That's good :)
Your songs from 2015 and 2018 are so good :D
I wasn't too into this song, but the live performance was very lovely so I had him in 15th place in the end.
One of my fav song in esc ever
I get goosebumps when I see this live! In my overall top 10
This is an amazing song I loved it
One of the backing vocalist is also one of the vocalist of the 2015 entry and represented Israel in 2017
IMRI ziv (aka: my hot baby!) was Hovi's backing vocals and also in 2015 for Nadav 'Golden Boy'. Despite most opinions, I love his own entry 'I feel alive' from 2017. I just love that boy!!
Please react to Israel 2015 - Golden Boy
Take out the lighters or phones and wave it! 🤳🤳🤳
Fun facts: Imri (Eurovision 2017) sang back up in this. Also the songwriter for “Toy” wrote this.
Austria is next! Think of rainbows and unicorns while you listen to it! 🦄
Austria was my absolute favourite that year, there was just something about it that made me love it so incredibly much
Fredrik Stein Åkerblad which is why I think of unicorns and rainbows! Takes you to a magical place that I riding a unicorn on a rainbow like I’m Rainbow Brite!
Bianca Mullner I do love unicorns!
Jake’s Face Reacts 🦄🦄🦄
Jake’s Face Reacts here's a random fact the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland
Was waiting for you to react to this tbh, it deserved so much better! Before Eurovision this song was in my bottom 5. At Eurovision, this was my favourite in 2016 after Jamala. Deserved top 5 really.
Kairit Laitinen Yes! You said it perfectly...it created an atmosphere that perfectly matched the song!
As for hosting Eurovision in Israel, I mean, Ukraine hosted last year and we literary have a war on the east of our country, so...
TheVolterra13 Israel will probably host, but it won't be Jerusalem.
TheVolterra13 Eurovision is such a huge event that a country hosting has to be able to be able to have the money to keep everyone safe. Ukraine did an excellent job...as will Israel 2019.
that's not a same thing
Well, you can't do it in Jerusalem but somewhere else like Tel Aviv would work.
one of my favorites that year! thank you for reacting to this!
I love this song so much!
And I adore the staging. It looks quite simple and yet compliments the song perfectly.
Unlike some other performances from that year which shall remain unnamed 😂
TheVolterra13 Yes. Some threw literally almost everything to distract us from the songs...yet they shall remain nameless.😉
jack we love you back!!!!
this is an amazing song. the jury put it seventh!! and the compser is doron madaly who wrote toy too( with stav beger). thank you so for much for the support!!!❤❤❤

Natasha Louise I agree! A top ten finish was deserved.
This singer is more talented than Netta, in my opinion
Cat, listen to this and tell me she's not talented: th-cam.com/video/U-nmNGH6bFU/w-d-xo.html . They're both talented, just different voices.
Great song!!! It surely deserved a higher place. Jake, how about Eurovision 2012- Kaliopi?
Beautiful!
Ok now you are REALLY making me wish you would react to Iceland 2016.
Hi from Israel! It seems Hovi did not have any music released after this. He did though take part in a local production of the musical "The Little Mermaid"

We love you too Jake 💙
this remains one of my fav entries in esc history, when i first heard it i started to cry and the music video is so chillingly beautiful.
Hoooooviiii my personal #1 in 2016 ❤
can you please react to Israel 2010- Milim by Harel Skaat?
please watch the semi finals please...not the Finals performance...huhu
Justin Angelo Alvarez haha good idea
Semi final Isreal 2010 is sooo beautiful! Please react to it Jake :)
My ESC 2016 winner, and my second fav ballad ever from Eurovision, after Norway 2014.
i still love this performance so much! even though he had beef w my country’s representative that year lmao
mimi spill the tea! Spill the tea!

Hovi is such an amazing artist. His song is such an understatement entry. This song makes me so emotional❤️
But it only received 11 points in the Grand Final televoting and 20 points in the SF televoting (16 place), only to be saved by the jury vote. Crazy.
IMRI (Israel 2017) was a backing vocalist in this
Vocally on point :)
One of the backing singers was actually Imri Ziv, Israel 2017 xD (also backed Nadav Guedj back in 2015)
This is a very nice song.
Fun fact:
He only got one time 12 points from a country! Which was luckily mine! (Germany) :)
you should react to Israel's golden years, 1978-1985, each song ended in the top 5. including 2 wins in a row (78-79). they're really good, you'll love them
