What a hike!! 87 Miles over four days - nearly killed me NGL! hahah - but it was great fun nonetheless! It's been good to get back to my home counties and explore more in my local area. You can find adventure anywhere if you look hard enough for it. Thanks for watching, make sure you like the video, comment down bellow and hit subscribe if your new here! Heres hoping we can get to the big 2000 with this video or the next! Thanks everyone :) -Dave
how incredible, thanks for making this, does mental health the world of good, we must try and halt housing development and covering the earth with concrete
Good little video that mate, well done on it 👏. That maybe my next wander! I did the great Glen in the summer 78miles hard but love it. Again well done
hey mate, walking the ridgeway at the start of June and your video has got me really excited for it! Thanks for the content and good luck with the channel - liked and subscribed. Jolly Rambles :)
I've been thinking of doing this one for ages. We recently lost our brother in law to cancer, and my sister has given me some of his walking shoes. Next spring I'm going to wear them as I undertake the walk in memory of him. Think I might aim for 5 days, though. My longest hike to date was a 3 day meander down the Grand Union Canal from my home town in Aylesbury to the Paddington Basin in London. 87 is a step up and I'm a lot older than you. Cracking video mate.
Good work mate, did this myself years back...being relatively local (swindon, and now Shrivenham) I recall Avebury to goring being the better half Anyway well done Cheers Mo Shrivenham
well done. I'm planning to start 14th July 2024, 6 days with my cocker spaniel and a mate or two for certain legs. Staying in dog friendly b&b's. I think my challenge will be water for both of us but i've seen some good advice and locations. Let's hope for overcast but no rain!
Lovely - ex pat locked down in Melbourne - good to see the UK countryside and things ancient. Good idea re audiobooks - so enjoyed Winn's The Salt Path. Mr Men phone box cover too nice to be rained on!
Well done! A great accomplishment over 4 days. I’ve just started walking the SW coastal path with three friends… but we’ve given ourselves 10 years to complete the 630 miles!!
Me and my friend did this. We did it from East to West though. The abiding memory (amongst many) was that there were many instances when we stopped and found the silence deafening, if that makes sense.
Only just discovered your channel but loving it so far! Been lucky to hike the awesome likes of WHW, Inca Trail and Laugavegur in my footloose, pre-parental days, but the Ridgeway ends close to our house, I often run sections of it in the mornings and I am dreaming of a through-hike as a more accessible objective sometime next year. So thanks for this extra inspiration!
brilliant mate, new subscriber... glad i found this, been taking our kids to hillforts since they were born (best picnic spots and its rare to see another soul), our youngest is only two so we havent had the chance to get out on many ridgeways although we had a little go on the west dorset ridgeway the other day, just at abbotsbury castle, stunning! you sir, are an inspiration and i will be keeping up to date with all your content, your channel is destined for greatness cheers for this one bud.
Many thanks for this video, and both the spoken and unspoken information, for walker planning to do it. Interesting that your trail runners stayed mud free for the entirety. Or did you have five pairs, identical? So, so different to walking here in Oz.
Really enjoyed this one. I can relate to those moments when your feet are telling you to stop! And you have to just find that energy somewhere. Nice one.
Loved this David. I’m walking the Ridgeway a bit at a time. You should do the Thames Path next it’s fantastic flat with heaps of contrasts. 184miles - I’ve done about a third already so still have some to go - I’ll join you for some of it if you pick it!
I really enjoyed this video and found it very inspiring, especially with your positive attitude! I walked from John O Groats to Lands End many years ago and watching this video has reminded me that I need to get back out walking again!! Thanks 👍
Well done Dave, great filming. Bought back memories of doing the trail one hot summer years ago with my Dad and an old School friend who was hiking it as a pilgrimage to Avebury for the Solstice. I think it took us 6 or 7 days and we camped on the trail. ATB 🍻👍
Me and my girlfriend did this walk a couple of months ago, really enjoyed your video and hearing your experiences of the ridgeway. Was a great way to reminisce!
My brother and I walked the Ridgeway several years ago with others from Oxford H3. We split it into three-day weekends. For the first stage we met up at Oxford Railway Station and took the train to Goring/Steatly and walked towards Overton Hill, camping in farmhouses near Letcombe Bassett and Ogbourne St George. Once at Overton Hill we walked up the Avenue to Avebury before taking the bus back to Swindon and train to Oxford. For the second state we hired a people-carrier taxi to collect us from Oxford Station and take us Ivinghoe Beacon, before walking to Goring/Streatly and returning by train. We camped at a school that let its fields out for camping for the first night and a proper campsite the second.
Thanks for this video, I can’t wait to get back to the UK to do more walking trails and this was top of my list since I joined the Ridgeway group...so this morning I feel like I had a feel for the experience. Good to know there are lots of villages along the way, not sure I will be carrying the cooking gear! Thanks, again.
Now I liked the shots of the shoes walking towards the camera. That is freaking sick! Also the weather you had the whole time feeds into literally every weather stereotype I have of the British isles. lol
Thanks Adam!! I really liked those shots too, I'm 100% going to keep on experimenting with this GoPro!! :) Hahaha yes, The weather was a bit iffy but as always - you've got to make the most of it!! Cheers bud
Amazing, dude! I started really getting into hiking 3 years ago. Love that feeling of pushing yourself to do more and more. You’ve definitely inspired me to continue on my journey. Love your work
Amazing!! I ran it recently, although in about four times as many (non consecutive) days!! I loved seeing it all again and recognising so many places so thank you. That last climb up to Ivinghoe Beacon was an absolute killer wasn’t it? But so satisfying to reach that point.
Very accomplished video, David. I admire your energy, enthusiasm and filmmaking craft. After 30 years in the Old Media broadcast news feature and documentary game, and now embracing new media, I'm having to unlearn a lot of things, so find it interesting to see fresh approaches from young filmmakers. Everyone always says 'know your audience' (too much, I think, as it can stifle creativity), so I'm curious whether you're targeting the already hike-curious, the already hike-hooked, or the hike-agnostic. If the latter, I'd consider making the films much shorter. This will highlight your strong points - your personality and filmmaking craft - and better conceal the fundamental storytelling flaw of a story about a self-motivated, uneventful hike in a visually samey landscape. I reckon shaving it right down would boost the impact, without losing too much (the more often you say you're enthusiastic and having a great time, rather than just showing us, the less convincing it can become - but I acknowledge I might be in a minority on this, as I find this trait grating is just about all mainstream programming). Editing your own material has some good points, mainly budget-related, but has major drawbacks. t's brutal to cut an edit of a four day hike, from which your blisters are still suppurating, into 4 minutes instead of 14, but you have to be learn to be your own most brutal critic...Good luck with your Channel, and congratulations again.
im sure it'd be more fun if you wasnt rushing .. just take your time ..unless you have to be somewhere ..which is quite possible..will u be doing the wessex ridgeway ??
I really wanted to thru-hike the ridgeway, but after Dan Shroud going missing up there earlier this year I avoided it. This has peaked my interested again
Great video mate. Good to see/hear your experiences. Another trail to be added to teh growing list of things to do next year. How hard was accomodation to find along the way??
Great video! Is the trail protected over it's whole length? I'm not as familiar with protected areas in England. Also, how did you enjoy Beau's book? I just finished it myself.
Amazing video as always! Nothing beats being in the outdoors. I can’t remember the last time I was in the Chilterns but note to self: I need to re-visit. Also- not sure if you’re aware- but when you set vids as premieres they don’t show up in subscribers notification feeds. Not sure if it’s a TH-cam glitch but a few people I know are subbed and didn’t get notified of the premieres 🤷🏾♀️ anyway keep up the great work 👍🏾
Thank you!! I’m really glad you enjoyed it! It’s 100% worth a go! So much fun to be had 😁Thanks for the tip!! I’ll have to stop the premiers from now on I think! 😁
Well done David - you've hit your 2k (does that make you an influencer now?) I can understand your excitement at seeing the A41 but then that's a Herts thing - we're near neignours I think, I came here from RCCG Your Day 2 slog remined me of the time I attempted the Pennine Way about 30 years ago. First day all went well and I smashed off the 13 or so miles of Day 2 by 1400 and would had to leave the path to find accommodation. But another 13 miles on what felt like fairly easy terrain to the next youth hostel - how hard could it be. I learnt much on that second leg - the warmth that can be created by a windproof layer, the need for snack energy to prevent your sugar levels dipping, that breaking boots in takes longer than 20 miles before starting an adventure like this, that it gets dark early and quickly in October, that you need to book Youth Hostels in the Pennines on Fridays and Saturdays, that YH Wardens are magicians who can magic a bed for the night. I want to get back into LDFP walking and the Ridgeway is on my sights. All the best
Thanks for your comment Scarlett! Hahaha no I don’t think I qualify as an influencer just yet, I’m happy we hit the goal though - I love the community we’re hiking here. Thanks for your comment, it’s always cool hearing about other people’s adventures! Deffo hit the ridgeway when you can mate you’ll love it 🥳
I managed to cycle it in a day a couple of months ago (the other way round - starting from ivinghoe) and once you get past risborough it’s literally all just bridleways and single tracks, so pretty fun to cycle
Yes 100% could cycle!! There’s a couple of places your not aloud to go but there are suitable alternatives clearly marked! It’s a awesome track, just make sure you’ve got someone ready to pick you up at the end!!! Hahaha 😁

Nice little video! Tough time to do the walk with shorter days, good challenge achieved!
Thanks bud!🥳
Absolutely amazing. What stop off points did you use to sleep over?
Well done! A great accomplishment over 4 days. I’ve just started walking the SW coastal path with three friends… but we’ve given ourselves 10 years to complete the 630 miles!!
Wow!! 630 miles really is something!! Best of luck with it! And thanks for the support 😁😁
Me and my friend did this. We did it from East to West though. The abiding memory (amongst many) was that there were many instances when we stopped and found the silence deafening, if that makes sense.
Awesome achievement, massive well done!! Ivinghoe Beacon is one of my favourite walks. I see you also hit 2k subs, nice!

Great video mate and a big achievement pushing through it on your own! 💪❤️
We live right by part of the Ridgeway outside Great Kimble 👍
Brilliant!! :)
Looks like you've reached the magical 2K mark, well done!
We did it!!!! Yas!!!
Wow David! You looked broken walking in the dark. Fantastic achievement, you'll be hooked now. All the best, Tasha
You've done what I've always wanted to do. I think about doing that walk every time I go to the Chiltern Hills. Well done David!
Really enjoyed this one. I can relate to those moments when your feet are telling you to stop! And you have to just find that energy somewhere. Nice one.
