  • Husqvarna has been tinkering with the Norden 901 since it was launched a year ago. Paying close attention to consumer feedback and how the Norden has been getting used and Husqvarna has decided to add a new model to the line. We went to South Africa recently to throw a leg over the new bike and put some miles on it.
    Don't forget to read up on the Expedition in Issue 80 of Upshift Magazine as well. bit.ly/3issu80q
    Thank you to Husqvarna for the invite.

      Those bags are indeed horrible. Ask the dealer for 150.00 Euro discount of a future buy. So that he can keep the bags and sell them to a standard 901 owner.
      But they are really worthless. Not enough space and they will be broken very soon. If you only ride tarmac they will last a short time. Offroad is a few weeks until days.

      So realize that a big part of the extra weight is from; The heavy duty skid plate, rear rack and bags, auxiliary lighting. Those are things that most 890R riders are going to ad on anyway. I think if you take the lights and rear rack off of the Norden Expo, and then put a legit skid plate on an 890R they'd be pretty close in weight.

    Do you have any experience or insight into how the OEM or Touratech lowering kits impact performance? I was able to get one foot down pretty comfortably but I am still considering those and/or one of the low seat options.

    • @UPSHIFT_ONLINE
      @UPSHIFT_ONLINE  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching. Glad it was valuable. We stay away from lowering kits. The only way to do it properly is to have the internals cut down by a shop that really knows what they are doing. A low seat will help but it really boils down to technique and being thoughtful about where you are stopping. One foot comfortable is good.

    I have an 890 Adventure (non R). It was just better for me than the standard Norden for the money. However, the Expedition has, for a small increase in price addressed some issues. Two things stick out though 1. Why not increase the tank capacity? It would put it in the ATAS and GSA tank range and more 2. Those panniers are utterly dreadful. They stick out way too far and just look cheap and insubstantial for a bike with such a grandiose name. They flap around alarmingly. This is a premium bike, not some Chinese copy. I’m sure Touratech or others could have come up with something way better. I’d resent the cost for something I’d ditch. That said, it’s a great looking bike with better suspension, protection and comfort that my 890…….

    • @UPSHIFT_ONLINE
      @UPSHIFT_ONLINE  ปีที่แล้ว

      Factory packaged accessories like panniers are pretty hit or miss for every OEM. Which is why the aftermarket and brands like Mosko Moto or Wolfman Luggage have found success. As for fuel... if we need to cover an above average number of miles we will simply carry extra fuel for those occasions. We would prefer to find a happy medium with a bike that is conscious of weight and performs but still has range vs a bike that is just a rolling gas tank. It's all a compromise.

    • @ianross225
      @ianross225 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UPSHIFT_ONLINE BMW, Honda, Yamaha, Aprilia, Ducati and even a Chinese company using their running gear did better. My GSA and ATAS has decent range and I liked the reduced filling up nuisance. If weight’s a bother don’t fill the tank. But we’re all different and I was being picky really. Those are not deal breakers by any measure.

If this fits on the "normal" 901 does it also fit the Expedition ? Otherwise you will loose a tremendous amount of money if people want to go for the Expedition.
