Hey Sky, I remember watching one of your videos talking about hair loss and I was wondering what you did to make it better? I can't seem to find that video and Im planning on going on T and Im just preparing myself for the side effects. I would really appreciate it :) btw do you think girls wouldnt mind a hairy guy? since Im already hairy without testosterone in my system. thanks a bunch!
@AidenFTM to clarify: pregnant women, or women that want to get pregnant soon, shouldn't touch it because it affects male fetuses.. it doesnt affect the uterus. it blocks the conversion of T to DHT which lowers progesterone levels which can raise estrogen levels, and low progesterone levels can cause depression. i havent felt depressed, and my estrogen levels are associated with a cyst on my ovaries. i wouldnt take a medication that i didnt know every single thing about, ;] (source: my doctor)
@skylarkeleven that aside, i said in a previous video that i dont like the results of "penile reconstructive surgeries" at this time, i fully believe the risks outweigh the benefits of them right now, in the future, it may be something i'd consider, but for my body and my situation now, i don't believe it would really benefit my life or help my dysphoria at this time. they are also months of recovery, multiple surgeries, and expensive - not nearly as easy as my previous surgery & future hysto.
@xemoxteddyx i have blue cross blue shield but they cover things in different states (like they cover top surgery in CA and IL but anywhere else) so it depends on your state and the insurance, so call up your insurance company, its really easy, we call mine to ask about everything (like the hysto now) and theyre super good about it haha :]
@mightymouse666 check out the first link i posted under the video, and click on "do i have to take it for the rest of my life?" that should help.. no one, born without male reproductive organs, is able to produce typical male levels of testosterone on their own unless they are intersex, towards the male side of the spectrum, at birth. the link will also tell you what changes remain and what changes back after stopping T.
Great video: I'm so tempted to make a .gif of the clip when you said "so jealous" (but I won't) it totally cracked me up and made me think of tumblr :)
You are literally so attractive, and you seem like a really cool guy(: It's amazing how you have the confidence to share this, and give advice to everyone in such a public way!
If I don't eat more (i eat like once a day) will I still gain weight and get a beer belly if I just walk around (I'm a pretty active person) but don't really work out? and what will happen if you stop taking T when you feel happy with your voice and body and such?
@BrandonFTM finasteride - its marketed as propecia or proscar - you need a prescription for it, make sure you look up the risks as well (especially for cismen).
you sound a lot more energetic than your previous videos.. i'm glad for you :) cuz i understand how easy it is for one to get into depression being on T... anw, thanks for the information and updates! best of luck :)
Wow, I sat through that whole thing and I did learn something! Actually, I knew that the balding gene was on the X chromosome, but it just never occurred to me that I had two of them, haha. It's not something I really think about. So yeah, I guess that does change things a little when it comes to balding. Considering my hair is really thick to begin with, I think I could use a little thinning. If you have the time, about how long were you on T before you noticed your hair starting to thin?
i sat through all 12:05 minutes! Its funny i was jus thinking about you the other day that i hadnt seen a video from youin awhile .. gladd to see your back! But yodef have more energy ... i watched back some videos and you were tired and run down alot cuz you were always so busy .. i mean who wouldnt be with your schedual! but yeah you def hae more energy this video :P well glad your bc and i love your videos
Loved you video, am going to start on therapy of about 300 mg a week for 8 weeks, but yeah, i am like 62 years old and i am so glad to hear so much of your positivist info . i am looking forward to experience some of your energy and happier feelings that i sure luck of as now i was very inspired by your video thanks and you are cute too...lol
Hey, so I already know that my genetics on balding are from my dad's side (thank god!) or else i would already have a high hair line and thin hair, but you said genetics don't affect it... Do you mean 50 50 shot or nothin at all? I do not want balding like my mother's side...
@MichaudCollette i'd prefer not to, simply because everyone's doctor will have a different needle/place they want them to inject. those videos mostly help those who are obtaining t illegally in the black market, which is not something i prefer to support. there are other folks who have made injection videos that are more detailed than mine would have been, n yeh. it's just something i'd prefer not to encourage (as i've been asked in the past!)
oh I also have a question. Would you mind telling me what kind of insurance do you have? How do you get the insurance company to cover the testosterone and other medication for you? I thought transsexual surgeries are considered cosmetic surgeries..?
@dillpickleboocutie by labeling it "the final surgery," you are essentially saying that being transgender has a "set track," that in order to transition, one must take hormones, get a mastectomy, get a hysterectomy, and get a phalloplasty or a metoidioplasty. be careful with your word choices, as while i'm an understanding individual, that thought can hurt others - there is no "final" or "the" surgery. there is no required surgery or way to transition. everything is optional.
Great information. But FYI there is testosterone pills called Andriol which I was taking for the past one year. The changes aren't that drastic but yes they do change. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone because it does go through your liver before being released but my endo insist on taking them before moving on to shots.
hey sky, i know a while ago you said you were doing p90x. did you see/feel any significant changes doing those work outs? i'm wondering if i should start the regimen, or just do other cardio/muscle workouts...thanks! - gavin
@skylarkeleven Thanks. And I'm sorry for asking so many questions and being a bother, but do you think it would matter if you missed taking it a few times?
Does insurance cover this for you? Did it cover surgery as well? What all did it cover if anything and who do you use? Going through the same thing as you and could use all the advice I can get. Thanks!
This is my first month on T, I feel great. But I have noticed a little pain in my chest (both sides) not all day long, but it comes and goes. Did you feel something like this? I visit my doctor and everything is ok. Maybe the T?
It's actually kind of validating for me when I think that I really really don't want to lose my hair but at the same time I'm like whatever if I have to be a bold dude at least I'm a dude!! it just reinforces that transitioning really is right you're in looking forward to something that you don't actually want because it's a sign of progress. When even the negatives are exciting you know you're heading in the right direction!
I started with testosterone 2 weeks ago and I noticed that I'm getting hair on my hands and my arms, witch is very strange, but no on my belly or on my face. But thanks, now I know, that I'll get bald! ;)
Do you have to keep taking Testosterone for the rest of your life??? And if you stop do you begin to change back to how you were???? Because that just kills everything to me...because whenever I get a hold of it, I don't plan on taking it forever. :/
There must be anything one can do to help prevent hairloss...?? What Are you using to stop your hairloss? Im not looking forward to Get Bald!! I know a guy, he has been on testo for 10 years, he is around 50 years now.. And he still got hair.. So what happend to his cromosomes? i thoght it was all about genes...?
There's a new pill that doesn't go through your liver. I forget the name and you can't get it in the US (only Canada) and you have to take like eight of them every day to get the right dose, but they do exist without damaging your liver. Just FYI ;) I'm kinda sad my metabolism isn't as high as yours, but I think age has something to do with it too. You talk REALLY fast in this vid btw :D
@skylarkeleven You have to take it for the rest of your life.., but do we all? You lose it after you stop taking it? Like...you do go back to how you were?
I've seen a good numbers of transguys avoid gaining a beer belly by just keeping up at the gym, so it's not really that bad. Haha, loved the "so jealous." This is really weird, but you have the cutest mannerisms. Anyway, thank you for this information.
Your videos are always extremely helpful :) especially for me, I'm new to the trans-community and TH-cam lol what or who do you think helped you make it this far in your transition? I'm Drew btw
Ah, I love to watch your videos^^ You insipred me a lot, do u know? (n_n) On Slovakia we can start take hormones only since 16yrs old, and I'm 15^^ I'll start about year. Thank you so much^^ :)
Dude, you are scaring me with all this talk of balding. I really don't want to go bald at like age 30. Maybe 40 but still. Can you just give me a total speech on this? I havn't started taking T yet but... I know someday I'll go bald but not when I'm 30! So it has nothing to do with what your relatives got?
Just doing 30 to 40 push ups a day
And I struggle with 5 lol
Hey Sky, I remember watching one of your videos talking about hair loss and I was wondering what you did to make it better? I can't seem to find that video and Im planning on going on T and Im just preparing myself for the side effects. "I pretty much ate everything in sight" you were on a Seafood diet. You SEE FOOD and you eat it :-)
@skylarkeleven that aside, i said in a previous video that i dont like the results of "penile reconstructive surgeries" at this time, i fully believe the risks outweigh the benefits of them right now, in the future, it may be something i'd consider, but for my body and my situation now, i don't believe it would really benefit my life or help my dysphoria at this time. they are also months of recovery, multiple surgeries, and expensive - not nearly as easy as my previous surgery & future hysto.
If I get to start on T, and I become bald, I'll start cosplaying Saitama.
Ha ha! Best way to cope with balding!
Kiara Lowery haha I'll pretend I'm Sir Patrick Stewart because I am a nerdy guy.
Lol!
Really don't wanna be bald though... I must analyze my DNA for this dreaded gene.
@MrImportrans oh word. well eight a day is still less convenient than shots ;] but yeah! and yes, i am a fast talker haha. i need to make subtitles D:
@mightymouse666 check out the first link i posted under the video, and click on "do i have to take it for the rest of my life?" that should help.. no one, born without male reproductive organs, is able to produce typical male levels of testosterone on their own unless they are intersex, towards the male side of the spectrum, at birth. the link will also tell you what changes remain and what changes back after stopping T.
the hair Thing scares the shit outta me
@meiloslyther about a year and a half, i started noticing massive amounts of thinning (visibly so!) :[
Great video: I'm so tempted to make a .gif of the clip when you said "so jealous" (but I won't) it totally cracked me up and made me think of tumblr :)
listening to u speak has been a huge eye opener for me, i really appreciate this informative video!
You are literally so attractive, and you seem like a really cool guy(: It's amazing how you have the confidence to share this, and give advice to everyone in such a public way!
Does balding vary considering race and or family ( like if you have a history of men balding a lot in your family )?
If I don't eat more (i eat like once a day) will I still gain weight and get a beer belly if I just walk around (I'm a pretty active person) but don't really work out? and what will happen if you stop taking T when you feel happy with your voice and body and such?
oh wow, i just watched all your videos.
and i think its amazing how your voice changed.
im so happy for you :)
@BrandonFTM finasteride - its marketed as propecia or proscar - you need a prescription for it, make sure you look up the risks as well (especially for cismen).

I just started taking testosterone on the 23rd :) thank you for posting these videos they really help a lot :)
I sat through it and I always learn something when I watch your videos. Very well done.

@mightymouse666 i suppose you didnt watch until the end of the video, yeah? haha..
You seem so happy! I'm so glad you're in a great place.

How much do the shots cost? Do they come in packages of like a dozen vials that you have to keep buying and are they prescriptive?
oh I also have a question. Would you mind telling me what kind of insurance do you have? How do you get the insurance company to cover the testosterone and other medication for you? I thought transsexual surgeries are considered cosmetic surgeries..?

Thanks.
And I'm sorry for asking so many questions and being a bother, but do you think it would matter if you missed taking it a few times?

Hey man, what medication are you on for reducing the bolding?? I have started bolding pretty bad and I would love to take something to help that!
@Searchinganswers Thats a really.. personal question.. and will usually be viewed as rude.
You go through tough patches in your life but you really are inspirational.
I started with testosterone 2 weeks ago and I noticed that I'm getting hair on my hands and my arms, witch is very strange, but no on my belly or on my face.

@CurtisFTM your doctor is definitely our best bet, i honestly have no educated idea for you :/
Please do a video on Balding!!! I really want to know how you treat it and more info!! Pleaase:(
@skylarkeleven I definitely agree, but this way your info gets more complete ;)
There's a new pill that doesn't go through your liver. I forget the name and you can't get it in the US (only Canada) and you have to take like eight of them every day to get the right dose, but they do exist without damaging your liver. Just FYI ;)

You talk REALLY fast in this vid btw :D
HA! I went from 130 lbs to 190lbs in 9 months of t. mostly fat! working on losing it.
the gene for balding actually isnt on the sex chromosomes, its autosomal in nature
@IgitRdie short answer: they dont
@skylarkeleven
You have to take it for the rest of your life.., but do we all? You lose it after you stop taking it? Like...you do go back to how you were?
I've seen a good numbers of transguys avoid gaining a beer belly by just keeping up at the gym, so it's not really that bad.
Haha, loved the "so jealous."
This is really weird, but you have the cutest mannerisms.
Anyway, thank you for this information.
